Easter brunch was way over priced. Coffee was not included! Payed $3 extra for that? Crazy. The food was cold.
EAster brunch buffet. Cold salads were fine. Hot foods were only warm and dried out. Carved ham likewise. "Glazed" carrots sat in a tin of water, no glaze apparent. Boring dessert choices were cafeteria style, though not as good. Lunch there in the past has been fine; they do not do a buffet well. The outdoor metal patio table covered by a tablecloth doesn't give an atmosphere of fine dining. Very disappointing when the total bill for three, with gratuity, was almost $180.
we had to cancel our reservation. one in our party refused to eat in a restaurant that served any food containing gluten (how many are there?)...and because the tavern's menu is not completely gluten-free, the staff could not honestly guarantee there would be no cross contamination (who could?)...it was our loss, for the restaurant looked inviting....we ended up getting crap from down the street, all because of one gluten wingnut
Great food and service! Loved the atmosphere. Very accommodating staff.
Disappointed after many previous excellent visits.
We enjoyed the Christmas buffet at the Brunswick Tavern. Our party included my 94 year old dad in his wheelchair, and the table, in a nook, was perfect for us. The food was abundant and tasty, and we enjoyed the salads and chowder. A couple of items, such as the salmon and risotto, didn't hold up well in the buffet steam trays, as they became overcooked (dry and gummy) but the quality of each buffet item was really very good. We especially liked the beef tenderloin. The desserts were delicious, and our favorite was the lemon cake. The coffee, from Wicked Joe, was perfect with dessert. We would definitely come again, as the staff was very accommodating and allowed us to enjoy our Christmas dinner with my dad at a leisurely pace.
the homemade hash was delicious and they make a very nice bloody mary
We went for Thanksgiving. The food was delicious. The sofa was flat.
My husband and I took my aunt here for a thanksgiving buffet , which we enjoyed very much. I appreciated being in a relatively quiet room with nice tablecloths, the room in the back. It was a nice surprise to see lobster, scallops, shrimp and squid on the buffet , it was very good. Having never been to the Brunswick Tavern before, It would be hard to choose from the above list of choices as to what I would recommend this restaurant for other than special occasions and a quiet tasty meal. I also appreciated the wine list, the Zinfandel was delicious, and my Aunt appreciated the Chardonnay choices. Wonderful dessert choices. I would go there again!
We have been many times and always had great service and food. This time, both were terrible. Our server forgot to put in my chowder order, so I questioned her when she brought our meals. She then went and got my chowder. That meant either the meal or the chowder was going to be cold beforeI could finish. The fish and chips that my spouse ordered was not cooked in the center and was cold. We ordered desert and the server (Philomena) didn't place the order before walking outside and chatted for some time. Then came back in the restaurant and socialized with another diner who was there with his 2 sons. We waited 17 minutes for a brownie with a scoop of ice cream. Someone else wrote a negative comment on their check, and she showed it to her coworkers, and they all laughed. I would expect her attitude at a beach front diner in CA., but not at this tavern. With the food and service both bad, we won't be back.
Very good food at reasonable prices. Lobster linguini was delicious and fresh. Service was good.
The food here is very poor. For a hotel this nice, it is surprising that this is so. My husband thought the coffee was undrinkable
Went to have dinner on Sunday night at The Brunswick Tavern. Service was great, very nice ambiance but food was good but not outstanding. We had the Lobster Scampi and a Lobster Roll. Place was a little loud for dinner conversation.
Our food was at best marginal. The haddock way overcooked, dried out. Brocolli was cold. Baked potato was good. Three of us had the same meal with the same complaints. We would have sent it back, but we were on a time line. We were very disappointed! Service was ok. Bar area was nice.
We were disappointed with the menu plus it was expensive. The lighter side had only four offerings . We chose the stuff pepper which had very little flavor and way over priced for what you got. The service was good though.
good service, varied menu, reasonably priced, excellent mixed drinks
This is a solid restaurant in a great location across the street from Bowdoin College. The menu is strong on variety and freshness. The service can be slow, but the staff is terrific!
We made reservations for pre-theater at the Brunswick Theater. It was VERY convenient. The food was great. I heartily recommend the coconut shrimp. The service was excellent.
We stayed at the hotel which we can recommend.
Hotel and restaurant were both very good.
My wife and I stayed at the Brunswick Inn which is very good however the restaurant isn't. We we told that the chef won a cooking contest against Bobby Flay. I highly doubt it. I ordered the half chicken which was extremely dry and tasteless. Do yourself a favor and dine somewhere else.
Our family went for dinner after a friend recommended it. The food was average at best, nothing to rave about. The menu could of had more choices. Atmosphere was comfortable and cozy. Service was good. Would not go back.
Great spot for dining before going to a show at the Maine State Music Theater
A very lovely ambience, a tavern which is part of a small hotel, well located in the center of town, close to Bowdoin College. Pub-like inside, with a beautiful outdoor patio, shaded and cool on a warm evening. Efficient, friendly service. A calamari appetizer was overcooked and under-seasoned. Two salads were acceptable; a hamburger, ordered medium-rare was overcooked and dry. A pleasant place for drinks and snacking; not for fine dining.
Had a very nice lunch on the patio. Food is always good.
Chef's special was scallops with bacon and it was yummy.
Basic menus with a few nightly specials that were very good
My choir always gives me a gift certificate to this restaurant because it is so convenient to Maine state music theater. A great start to a spectacular production of fiddler on the roof!
Pleasant outdoor casual dining with good food and great service. Great idea when attending theater at Bowdoin.
The menu had variety and the food was great. Local flavors represented. Service was perfect.
Noisy cocktail area should be enclosed or find a way to neutralize the noise.
Enjoyed our dining experience before the Maine State Music Theater. We never felt rushed and all our meals were freshly prepared.
We had lunch before a MSMT show and everything was perfect. Our sandwiches and sides were delicious and the gelato was top notch!
We had a great first dinner in Maine at Brunswick Tavern. We were running late due to traffic and they were very accommodating. I ordered the lobster ravioli, which was done in an original way, a bit more savory preparation. This was a nice contrast to the brandy cream based sauce that you generally see with lobster ravioli and was quite good. My husband had a lobster roll which was also very good.
The wait staff was confused and could not get us the right menu . We were set out of the way in a big open room that was like a rental hall with just us in it. The food was not great, and the price on some was ok and other items was high for what you got both in portion size and quality. There were eight of us in my party and none of us would go back or recommend this location.
We went for a Mother's Day Buffet. It should have been great and would have been if the foods had been prepared well. But it was not and most of our food, unfortunately, was not worth eating and went back to the kitchen to be thrown away. And we noticed many plates of food were being left mostly uneaten. We will never be back and you shouldn't bother either. There are many tasty places to eat in Brunswick....this is not one of them.
Seafood chowder was tasty but not hot enough. Grilled asparagus was tender. Garlic potatoes were good, but not outstanding Rack of lamb was outstanding! Menu selections for dessert were ho-hum. .. good have been more imaginative. Had a confirmed reservation, but they lost it... so we had to sit at a crowded noisy bar. So, it was acceptable, but not a totally great experience. I'll have to think twice before doing one of your special events again.

While the food was excellent, the selection was very limited. I had salmon, which was delicious. My wife, on the other hand, was somewhat disappointed with the cranberry chicken. She had expected a little more than half a chicken breast smeared with cranberry sauce. Not a very good selection. The service was OK but it did take an unusually long time for our servier to bring out the bread and salads. And I actually had to flag down another waitress to get refills for our drinks.
We have been huge fans of this Tavern since opening day; however they recently changed the menu (and not for the better). There are a couple wonderful servers while the others lack professionalism. This is still the best place in town to come for cocktails and group get togethers.
We went to the Brunswick Tavern on Christmas Day. The service was slow, no excuse with a limited, prix fixe menu. My husband ordered the surf and turf, and the meat was tough. I ordered the lobster Newburg, and the sauce was thin and the pastry just a tiny triangle. All-in-cost cutting (staff, ingredients) led to an experience that will not be repeated.
Our selection from the special 3 course dinner menu was superb! Starting with a tasty caesar salad appetizer, we chose the seafood newberg (plentiful lobster, shrimp etc in a rich cream sauce & puff pastry ) , accompanied by a bottle of Portugese vino verde. Apple Crisp and chocolate cake for desert climaxed our holiday dinner. All pleasantly served by Lisa.
