We were seated in the far back of the restaurant which was fine. Our salad was decent, but we also ordered calamari and salmon. The salmon was small, overcooked, and fishy. The other items on the plate were dry and lacking flavor. It was a huge disappointment given the price and special occasion. I will never go back there again. The positive was our excellent service.
The ambiance is not overly clubby, some leather and brass but overall very comfortable. The noise level is moderate, low enough to have a conversation but loud enough you don't hear the people at the next table. Our waiter was friendly while still professional. He was quite knowledgeable about the local oysters; the source locations and flavor profiles. The menu has a variety of options, from small plates to seafood to red meat to chicken - although not a large selection within each category. I feel limiting the choices results in better food, fewer recipes means they are better prepared. The prices are moderate and we felt we received good value for the money.
Not terrible, not great. Would not go again. Expensive for what you get. Server was very busy, maybe had too many tables. Even though the menu has a lot to choose from, it was hard to find something that sounded really good. The menu descriptions were a bit froufrou and underwhelming once served. A meat entrée served with charred rainbow carrots and scalloped potatoes (described in much better prose on the menu) came with 2 tablespoons of potatoes and a blob of mush that had a green top so I guess it used to be a carrot. My dinner companions, one with a seafood dish and one with a different meat dish, were very happy (seafood) and disappointed (meat).
A wonderful dinner. I heartily recommend the lamb - really terrific. We were stymied by traffic and were going to be late for our reservation. I called ahead to inform them and the hostess was very kind and told us that it was no problem - she would have our table all prepared and waiting for us. The waitress was professional and helpful. I recommend the Brooklyn for special dinners.
This place has fallen off in my opinion. This use to be a mainstay for every visit to Seattle but I have noticed a decline in the quality of meals. They slightly changed their menu changing some of their older items from meals to small plates, not big deal but odd. I had the prawns and the veins were left on every single one, I peeled them off and ate them anyway. They got my wife's order wrong and her fish was cold. They also messed up the order of our dishes. This place still has great oysters, so maybe I will just stick to the happy hour going forward.
We were excited as we entered the restaurant as the ambiance was great. The bar seating was unique with backed chairs that would allow privacy while sitting at the bar. We were sat at a table. It was against the railing, no big deal, and they did offer an open table against the wall. All of our servers reached over the railing to serve and remove plates, we felt that was a little weird.
Our server was polite but not helpful. When asked if he could help select a Cabernet wine, he pointed to the one page Cabernet list and said here is the list I will let you read the descriptions. We had done that, not helpful. The wine we chose ended up being delicious.
We ordered the Brooklyn crab cakes, the filet (medium) and bone in ribeye (med rare) The crab cake was excellent. Would recommend it to anyone who goes. I am not big one crab cakes and would order it again in a second. When the meals arrived, the presentation was beautiful. My rib eye was thinner than anticipated for a bone in. It was cooked to order but lacked seasoning. Her fillet was rare. I would not have accepted it as medium rare and she had to send it back. They refired the steak and ended up burning it to almost inedible. The outside was charcoal and it was cooked to high medium if not well done. There was no pink left. The real problem was the charcoal exterior that left a burned wood in your mouth. All of the sides were delicious for both of us.
To give us time to digest our wine and avoid driving, we ordered desert, apple crisp and creme brulee. They were good but nothing special. It was obvious they had been stored in the fridge, the apple crisp had been quickly heated but not hot and did not melt the ice cream and the brûlée was fired long ago as the top was still cold.
Overall the experience was not a good one for us. Ambiance was great and the food had potential but the main courses and the deserts did not deliver. For the price, there are better restaurants within blocks of this place.
We were going to the symphony and there was a birthday to celebrate. I always feel confident that nobody will find reason for disappointment. Very good menu, drinks and waiters. The evening I expected and we were out in time. There are a few steps here and there, but not the entrance, and the restaurant has ramps if needed. Just steps away from SAM or Beneroya Hall.
Service was excellent with great recommendations concerning both food and drink. We had the small plate steak and crab cake; and both were absolutely delicious. The right amount of food that was very well presented and reasonably priced. We also thought the atmosphere was very nice and the noise level fine. All in all we had an outstanding experience at this restaurant and would highly recommend it to anybody.
We chose The Brooklyn for our last dinner while visiting our son & future daughter-in-law in Seattle last week. What a wonderful meal and experience to cap off a great week in a terrific city! The bartender congratulated the newly engaged couple and our server was equally attentive to our table. We don't get to the Pacific Northwest very often, but we will surely keep it on our list of places to revisit on a return trip! Our son & fiancé said it's now one of their new favorites and look forward to coming back & recommending to friends. Great night!
When you walk-in to any restaurant with an 8:30pm reservation and the hostess advises you that the kitchen is only open until 9:30pm your initial reaction was hopefully it would not take that long to get food served. In this case it did not, thankfully, but by 9:00pm all staff were in full clean up for close mode and we felt very rushed. They did not run a vacuum under our feet, but trash bags dragged by us while we ate was a bit much. It was a Thursday evening, so In choosing this establishment it is recommend to book earlier to avoid a similar experience.
A classic in Seattle! Knowledgeable and friendly staff. It has been 20 years since our last visit and the place was as beautiful inside as we remembered. A little slow due to being Sunday night, but the food was great and the local oysters very fresh. Staff was quite helpful and helped us by arranging a taxi for our return trip to an area hotel. The wine list focused on Washington wines and prices were quite reasonable.

We eat here often before Seattle Symphony performances and really do enjoy the venue and the food. Our last visit was not as good as others, the filet wasn't cooked properly to order but the waiter 'made it good'. It seems to be getting more gourmet though, which we don't care for; i.e. there were supposed to be carrots and asparagus...where???? To me it was more for garni than part of the meal. Disappointing. They have also done away with ice cream and sorbet...booooo. Who wants another 1000 calories after a big meal? The salad, small bites and meats are still good, we will continue to recommend the restaurant and continue to eat here prior to the symphony. Would just like to see more veges on the entrée and maybe a selection of something 'comfort' food.
Very disappointing signature salmon dish for a “fish restaurant”. Sautéed and smoked salmon was flavorful but dry as a biscuit. The server graciously took it back. The prawn tapas looked beautiful and had a nice presentation with bacon wrapped around the base, BUT, the prawns were flavorless. I suspect they were defrosted in a tub of water.
The lamb shank in the other hand, may have been one of the best lamb shanks I’ve ever sampled. Wonderful fall off the bone super flavorful with a crust.
The ambience is festive and comfortable. The cocktail and wine lists are memorable.
My husband and I have enjoyed The Brooklyn as long as we have lived in Seattle. The service, ambiance and food as always very good. The wine list is exceptional and the craft cocktails are some of the best.
What irked me this visit was a charge of $4.50 for bread for a dinner tab of $150.00. It was offensive.
I was expecting a melt-in-your-mouth type of steak and was surprised that it wasn't. The scalloped potato was so dry I wasn't even able to eat it. The asparagus was great. I basically spent $50 on steak that wasn't worth the price. My husband and I had pizza later that night.
One of the filets (med ) had a bad taste, almost rancid. They did take it off the bill. The rest of the food was alright. Not quite as good as we have had before at the Brooklyn and tonight's meal was definitely not worth the price of the meal. The oysters and crab cakes were good. The other two steaks were ok. Again, was like eating at a mediocre meal at a high price.
We booked the reservation through Open Table. We arrived about 30 mins early to get a drink at the bar, but they offered to go ahead and seat us. Once seated, we were quickly attended to by one of the best waiters I have ever had. He was attentive, professional, personable, and efficient. The whole meal from start to finish was A+. It was a great night!
