If you like oysters, do not miss this restaurant. Even if you do not like oysters, you can find great food and a wide selection of food to enjoy. The presentation of your plate is pleasing. The staff is friendly and efficient. The Brooklyn also has a selection of small plates which are excellent for those with smaller appetites or budgets.
You must try the steak salad. The presentation is great but the taste is even better.
Been a customer for decades. Ambience is still phenomenal, highly convenient, ingredients fresh and interesting, but the move to haute cuisine plating (tiny portions) at same pricing or higher, did not go over well at our last visit. This was prior to an evening Mariners game after work, we were hungry and wanted something more delicious and more satiating than ballpark food. Unfortunately, the portions were so miniscule that though we'd ordered 5 dishes for 3 people we also ate at the game. This is coming from very petite thin people -- far from gluttons. It was a highly disappointing experience, and though The Brooklyn has long been a favorite we pop into frequently, I am afraid this will no longer be the case.
Absolutely fabulous dining experience - great food and service! The fresh oysters were the incredible. Check out the Brooklyn!
6 to a booth is over crowded; tables upfront are very nice, sitting at bar in big facing chairs creates private space for two, the oysters are superb, the waitstaff exceptionally well trained but a bit impatient with customers who are slow to order, the kitchen is very flexible in meeting special dietary needs, the decor is great and gives off the aura of a well-established and expensive club, which is the case.
Outstanding place. Very excellent. Have not been their in 5 years, but nothing has changed. Quality oysters with several varieties to choose from.
I was with visitors and locals, all of us saying how The Brooklyn was one of our favorites. But, frankly, the food disappointed. Now, the food was good - just not the outstanding dinner we remember, and really just another dinner. (My friend ordered a wedge salad. I guess the drought has hurt agriculture, because it was the smallest wedge of iceberg any of us had ever seen.)
professional staff -- not trendy -- great choice of oysters, which is why we go.
I love the ambiance at The Brooklyn. The high back chairs overlooking the food preparation in the kitchen are our favorite way to dine. We had a sampling of oysters as a starter, all of which were great. I had the veal which was perfectly cooked and had a great sauce and my wife had the steak oscar which was big enough that both of us could have shared that as an entree. We had a 2009 Heitz Cabernet which was reasonably priced for an upscale steak house. This is my favorite restaurant in Seattle. We'll be back!
My Husband and I spent our first date at The Brooklyn 16 years ago where we fondly remembered the oysters on the half shell. We decided to spend our anniversary there this year. We can't say enough about how excellent the oysters are. The presentation is excellent and the description of the flavors is right on! The drinks were great, the chowder was excellent and the server was knowledgable and had a great personality. Thanks J.! The only thing we were disappointed in was the seared tuna entree. We've had so much better. It was not paired well, did not have good flavor and was a disappointment. We still love the restaurant, and would recommend the oysters.
My wife and I have eaten at and enjoyed The Brooklyn many times for both lunch and dinner but this time we suspect something changed. We were alerted when served store bought presliced bread before lunch. What's this! Seattle is a city with wonderful artisan bakeries that serve both the restaurant and family kitchen trade. Store bought bread.........presliced.......stale........and tasteless. We wondered what other parts of our meal were store bought? That start to our meal left a bad taste in our mouth. We'll give The Brooklyn one more try but if there is a repeat of the bread incident we will not be back. Something changed. Too bad.
I have dined here on many occassions and they never disappoint. Oysters are always the best, and tonite the halibut special was a real hit. Great service and ambience. Excellent dining experience.
Had lunch with my son in your outside dining area. It was very pleasant. The service was better than expected as usually the outside folks in most restaurants do not get fast service. Here, our server was always present, very attentive and frequently checked on us.
Seated at bar so we could watch the "action'. Very good service and dishes we chose were excellent.
So I'm a mountaineer who's been visiting Seattle for many years - also well traveled globally - and let's just say the title above says it all! This place is great I don't bother looking elsewhere! It has great steaks, amazing seafood, all food so fresh, great service, and local beer. Also if your a seafood lover the oysters are WOW!!!
BTW dinner will be $100ish but if you want to save a bit you can eat an amazing lunch there for $40ish
Erick our server was attentive and gave great recommendations. We were visiting from out of town, celebrating our wedding anniversary. From drinks to dessert we really enjoyed the food and the ambience.
We often go to the Brooklyn after performances and it is the perfect place to talk over the play. The martinis are the best I have found with a wondrous selection and rare and delicious gins. Oysters on the half shell are always a treat. my wife always orders the mussels which are delicious in a bacon tarragon white wine sauce. We often split on of their super desserts such as Key lime pie. Service is so good that you do not even have to think of a need because it is always taken care of. Hank
Best Oysters in Seattle! We were visiting for the weekend. Had dinner on Friday night then went back the next day for more oysters on Happy Hour. Great service too
Yummy food, beautifully presented with excellent service.
The Brooklyn has great food at a more reasonable price than some of the downtown alternatives. The wine list provided nice choices and the local beer was a great find.
Wait staff was great!
Great drinks with perfectfly cooked food.
I will return!
My first visit to The Brooklyn. The food was outstanding. The waiter offered great recommendations and was attentive, but not in the way. The chef's specials were excellent. All the food was cooked perfectly and was extremely fresh. The flounder and salmon were to die for. We talked this restaurant up with others at the conference we were attending and these people then went to the restaurant and had the same experience.
Loved the clam chowder and crab cake starters. My hubby had a scallop dish with spareribs and potatoes, I had poached wild salmon with polenta and veggies and all were fantastic! My husband also tried the oyster/beer pairing and he is now an oyster on the half-shell convert! The staff was very accommodating when we showed up early for our reservation, and were able to seat us within a few minutes. Can't wait to go back next time we're in Seattle!
I used to eat lunch at The Brooklyn with some frequency and found it special. I was looking forward to returning. This time, I was surprised at how mundane the lunch menu was. I had a difficult time finding something I wanted to order. Everything seemed like something I could get somewhere else. The food was adequate, the service was better but not terrific. The cole slaw that came with my meal was tasteless, I did not finish it. The only item that had a special flair was the side salad accompanying my friend's crab cake. Another diner's Salad Nicoise looked tasty. I will give it another try but couldn't help but wonder what happened to the specialness I remembered.
The raw oysters were good. We ordered ceaser salad. It looked like cooked cabbage, brown and mushy. I was surprised they actually served it.
They were kind enough to take it back, and the waitress proudly exclaimed we would not have to pay for it. That wasn't a question in my head.
The salmon was a small hunk of over steamed fish, with no seasoning. I asked the waitress if their chef was off that night, and my instincts were correct. He was. Maybe if he was there, it might have been better, but when I mentioned the restaurant to an ex concierge from Seattle, before I said a word, he shook his head, and said no.
This is the place for lunch if you are anywhere near Second and University.
We chose this restaurant because we were going to the Symphony across the street. The weather was very cold and rainy so we were glad that we were close by and only had to walk a short distance. It costs a little more than we normally like to pay but it was delicious food. It was a little slow receiving the food but we still made it in time to the symphony. The waiter recommended the Halibut and so three of us got that and the fourth person got the veal. All were hot, well plated and came with an assortment of vegetables. They do charge extra for the bread but the olive oil dip is excellent with the garlic and spices they use.
Great, as always! One of my favorites. They always try to accommodate seating requests.
Great selection of local seafood fresh off the boat! Our waiter, Darnell, new exactly how each plate was prepared and described each selection with great enthusiasm. When asked about the fresh oyster selection he made recommendations based upon his own sampling that night prior to his shift! One of the best waiters I've ever had! Great place and the service was way above par!
The food was fantastic, but be prepared for a big bill. Just to give you an idea, a meal for four, including one appetizer and drinks was around $300.00. The menu is seafood, steak and salads. I ordered the scallops, great portions and very flavorful. The service was fast and very accommodating, however my dining experience was on a slow Sunday. This would be a great place for a special occasion or even cocktails and appetizers. I would definitely recommend everyone give it a try.
We had a very lovely night at this establishment. They were very accommodating to my wife's allergies which is always a bonus.
We were advised by a friend that we HAD to go here. We are very glad we did. The food was great, the staff....very friendly. We especially enjoyed our server, Dave. He was knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful when it came to helping us make decisions. His personality was the topping on the creme brule!! Which, we might add, was to die for. Mind you, so was the crab cake and the steaks....Definitely a night to remember during a fabulous weekend.
A bit on the pricy side but for the great service makes it worth it.
The food tastes great and is very consistent.
Enjoyed a special night out at Brooklyn's, this was our first time to try this restaurant. The menu had a variety of choices, we had the salmon and halibut. They were excellent, prepared so you could enjoy the natural flavors. We enjoyed our booth where we could actually have a conversation without the din you usually get in other restaurants. Wine selection is fantastic both by the glass and bottle.
The Brooklyn is one of my five or so mid-town go-to places for a great lunch. This is a seafood house - highly recommended are the fish of the day, the bouillabaisse, and raw oysters. It's a comfortable spot for a business lunch, or with the spouse for a special treat like an anniversary lunch. Nice wine list, and I've heard the hamburgers are fine, but please, go for the seafood! Only miss IMHO is the (white) clam chowder - a bit too much flour as usual with white chowders. But I've had most items on the menu, and can assure you it is a bountiful and delicious set of choices. And I've never had a waiter who wasn't first class.
Excellent food and reasonably priced restaurant for lunch. The closeness of tables in the front part of the restaurant made a private conversation difficult. Ask to be seated in the back part if you do not want to share everybodies conversation.
Great selection of reasonably priced wines.
Enjoyed the whole meal.
We stopped in for dinner before a concert at Benaroya Hall. Our waiter asked if we had plans our was this a casual dinner. Food was excellent from appetizers to dessert. Portions were perfect. Everyone finished each plate.
We go to the Brooklyn often, but always for our anniversary. It's always so memorable and a culinary adventure. The server was a gem.
The clam chowder is one of the best, if not THE best in town. We could have just got the chowder and bread and been totally satisfied. We also got a couple of appetizers, which were good too. But, I definitely will be returning for the chowder.
