We were in Seattle for an appointment, and due to time of day, and knowing Brooklyn, made a reservation for dinner. We requested the counter, since our 6 year old son was with us. Our server, Sean, did an outstanding job of engaging our son.
Brooklyn is NOT for kids, and by that I mean they do not have a kids menu, nor crayons and placemats you can color on. We knew that by sitting at the counter, our son would be entertained watching the chefs, which he claims to want to be, and he’s also a foodie. He had the Calamari and the Salmon, and partook of our oysters, but was disappointed they didn’t have frog legs. BTW, his calamari was a better app than my DayBoat Scallop, it’s not the same without the foie gras.
I highly recommend that if you’re thinking about taking kids here, they’re going to have to eat from the “small plates” menu, or maybe split an entrée.
Service overall was great, the food as usual was superb. The Brooklyn has an interesting dichotomy, the food is well prepared and presented; the decor, both the house and staff, is what as would be expected in a fine dining establishment, but then the noise level and store of clientele is casual. Which makes it great for when you want to have an outstanding meal, in a nice place, but you’re just coming from a day in the Sodo district rooting on one of Seattle’s teams.
The chowder was fantastic, and the Halibut superb.
We (my wife and I) returned the following evening, and I thought that the salmon was even better than the halibut (they cook the salmon then run it through an on-site smoker), but my wife stayed with the halibut for a second time! Really excellent food and great cocktails.
This location does not mess around during the lunch hour. Service was great, quick, and food was good! Very attentive service staff.
I have been to The Brooklyn numerous times. I noted yesterday that it seems the food portions have gotten much smaller than they used to be which was disappointing in light of the cost. I hope they move back to more generous portions.
Great food! Great drinks! Greta location!!
Steaks not cooked how we asked for them. Potato over cooked, scallop potatoes very small portion. Caesar salad no croutons in salad only 1 piece of baguette with some goat on it on the side.
The food was awful. The worst seafood we’ve had. The clam chowder had no clams; just potatoes. The salad was stale. The king salmon was hard to eat. Tested like it marinated in catsup. Would not go back nor recommend to anyone.
Had an early dinner before an event. We had a great two top and seated promptly. The waiter was initially very friendly and attentive. However, it appeared that he was over extended with tables. Getting his attention and ordering within out stated time frame was difficult. The meal was the a fine Brooklyn Offering, right sized, cooked to our liking and delivered hot by a server. Compliments to the Chef.
Getting the servers attention to get a desert and bill was a bit of a stress. The server did not appear to care at this point or he was too busy to conclude our business.
I like the Brooklyn but would only go there for an event in the neighboring area.
locale semivuoto, ostriche piccolissime, scelta vini così così, servizio buono
Ok. Nice music piped in from the 50’s. Somewhat slow and distracted service. Food well executed except for seafood ravioli (too tough, underdone) wine list barely acceptable. Missing something
Hostess tried to seat us in the WORST table in the restaurant even though it was relatively empty at 6pm.
After we refused she suggested the 2nd worst table.
We walked over to the bar and sat there and had an enjoyable meal and conversation with a great bartender.
Kudos to him. Raspberries to the disinterested hostess.
One of my wife and my favs but we took our 3 teenage children tonight and were ceremoniously escorted to “the back of the restaurant” which is what most restaurants do but it doesn’t make it right. Seated out of the main area and slowly other families with younger kids showed up at the few tables around us. It put us in a lousy mood even though the service was great (Mike) and the food as good as always. And yes when we got there we asked the hostess for a booth up front and were told “no let’s put you at a table that has a bit more elbow room”....to the back we went.
We had a friend visiting from Alabama who requested we go to the Brooklyn (one of my favorite places) and we met up with other friends. Front desk staff were amazing, bar staff was great, and I appreciate I can order grilled chicken and steamed veggies. We all had a great time.
We often go to the Brooklyn before a show. The food is excellent; the wait staff is friendly and professional. An excellent raw Oyster selection. The bar-tenders make perfect mixed drinks. A little pricey; but worth it for the quality and location.
I don't mind an expensive dinner, but it bothers me spending as much as we did for what amounted to high-end cafeteria food. Our very expensive appetizer amounted to four tiny shrimp, our very expensive steak and tuna dinners went back half-eaten. It all felt very assembly line, no real cooking involved -- incredibly simple dishes, about twice as expensive as they should have been. I suspect we were paying for the location. We come in from Bellevue once a month for the symphony and treat ourselves to a downtown restaurant. This was the first time we felt legitimately ripped off by the experience.
Nice menu offers and service was a team effort. Food was prepared well and presented nicely.
Friendly staff from entry through departure from dining experience.
On vacation and enjoyed the restaurant.
Delicious food and great service. We shared several of the "small" plates. Started with fresh oysters on the half shell, then steamed mussels, followed by an amazing crabcake then a green salad with Oregonzola. Rachel was a great server, explained things and made us feel welcome. We took home two well packed desserts, Key Lime pie and tiramisu, for a yummy treat later on. Mixed drinks were both sturdy and well made. All in all, a great experience.
Our server, Rachel, was outstanding! Helped us make good choices given our interest in small plates.
The Oysters are fabulous, and so incredibly fresh. Our server selected a great trio of oysters for us to sample and compare. Be sure to request seating in either a booth in the back or in the captain's chairs for a view of the line prep. The salmon entrée is delicious, the lobster ravioli small plate was not as good as I hoped it would be.
I love this restaurant. Wonderful service, wonderful food, my go-to place in Seattle
Nice, no bread at lunch and no children’s menu
One of the best meals I’ve had in Seattle in a while!
Very happy with our mail our waiter took very good care of us. We have a very nice time! Thank You
I enjoyed my oysters, and my wine was great I like the atmosphere at Brooklyn
The food, service, and ambiance were excellent!
Amazing. Food and service was perfect. Suggestions from server was right on. He pushed the experience over the top.
We started with oysters and the crab cake. The crab cake was full of fresh crab chunks. I had the salmon and my dinner date had the pork chops--both so wonderfully tasty. Just so delicious. The chocolate ganache torte was also amazing. The drinks were also good. Our server was knowledgeable, not too pushy on any choice and just friendly. If I ever visit Seattle again, I'll definitely be back!
Have been looking for an opportunity to dine at Brooklyn for some time. Comfortable atmosphere with lots of room and friendly staff. Food was great, oysters, steak, and fish. Good bottle of wine at a fair price. Much better all around than Metropolitan.
Enjoyable experience knowledgeable wait staff that was friendly, helpful, and there when we wanted something.
We went tapas style, a couple of cocktails, a bottle of wine, and three starters. All were excellent. The crab cakes were great. Lots of crab, moist and not overly compressed into a cake form. The scallop and pork dish was excellent too, the pork was nicely spiced. The wine list was good and fairly priced
I nice place to go before an event at the 5th Ave theatre
Brooklyn is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere. The ambiance is warm and friendly and the waitstaff is superb. The oyster (very fresh) and vodka samplers are a real treat. Salmon and Cod were done to perfection. We dine at Brooklyn every time we are in Seattle. This has been our fifth or sixth visit in the past twenty years and the quality of this restaurant has always been excellent. We look forward to our next visit.
Three people of four ordered filet and they looked like some complex dinner. While they were trying for some artful look, it wasn’t and the steak was not the best I’ve had. Last time there the filet could be cut with a butter knif e... not this time. Just mediocre $50 steak. Not going back.
A convenient location to meet prior to an event at Benaroya Hall. A dinner reservation made for a party of four at 5:45 pm. to make it to a 7:30 pm. event. Upon arrival we were greeted and told that they didn’t have/couldn’t find my Open table reservation. The other two members of our party were already seated and along with me producing my open table reservation receipt and their admission to finding the reservation, eventually we were seated. Our server started off on a great note. He was very knowledgeable about the menu, delivered our cocktails in a very timely manner, and helped us with choosing several varieties of oysters. We enjoyed our appetizers and were having a very pleasant time and then our entrees arrived. My friend and I had ordered the salmon with dill. Unfortunately it arrived with a side of substantial hair. These things happen and I try to be an understanding person but when we informed the waiter of the hair and that we also needed to get to a 7:30 event his response was “I’ll do my best to deliver a new entree but it would have worked out better if you had let me know of your time restraints when you were first seated.” My response... “We weren’t planning to need extra time due to hair in our entree!!!!” As you can imagine things went down hill from there. Waited for silverware and were given bread plates to share our entree. Again, these last two points are by no means the end of the world but being that I eat out a lot; from Michelan starred restaurants to local burger joints it’s all about how you handle errors and making your clientele feel valued. Personally I would have apologized, checked with the kitchen to be sure I could have accommodated my guests, and if not,
removed the ordered item off of the bill (something I think they should have done anyway as a professional courtesy). I gave the restaurant an overall 3 star because there were some positive points but I will never dine there again due to how the situation was han
Four of us dined at The Brooklyn and each enjoyed his meal. I am not a fan of oysters, so there was no appetizer alternative for me (other than a soup or salad.) Really wish there were so other choices for appetizers besides oysters.
I had Ribeye - 16 oz bone-in cut. Nice large cut but undercooked.
My girlfriend had the Steak Oscar- USDA prime sirloin and loved it.
I did feel tables were to close together though. I really don't want to hear other peoples conversation while I’m having a romantic dinner.
Thank you for a wonderful evening. The atmosphere was terrific, attentive staff and nice wine list.
This is a Seattle joint with an extended eat at bar, high back swivel chairs, booths, and old school jazz playing. Steak, oysters, beers, salmon, wine, drinks, jazz. Great staff. It's not the end of the world, its just a timeless Seattle standard.
The oysters, lobster ravioli, and steak were wonderful, the staff responsive and friendly, and the atmosphere was very nice.
The food was fine although a bit on the pricey side. This is definitely a business meeting spot. Atmosphere is pleasant.
We had the Crab cakes which were amazing. The Steak toreador (sp) were just as good. Great service from Nick, I highly recommend.
The varied menu had something for every appetite. Our food was excellent. Our wait staff was welcoming, helpful with the menu, and attentive to our needs.
