Have been looking for an opportunity to dine at Brooklyn for some time. Comfortable atmosphere with lots of room and friendly staff. Food was great, oysters, steak, and fish. Good bottle of wine at a fair price. Much better all around than Metropolitan.
Enjoyable experience knowledgeable wait staff that was friendly, helpful, and there when we wanted something.
We went tapas style, a couple of cocktails, a bottle of wine, and three starters. All were excellent. The crab cakes were great. Lots of crab, moist and not overly compressed into a cake form. The scallop and pork dish was excellent too, the pork was nicely spiced. The wine list was good and fairly priced
I nice place to go before an event at the 5th Ave theatre
Three people of four ordered filet and they looked like some complex dinner. While they were trying for some artful look, it wasn’t and the steak was not the best I’ve had. Last time there the filet could be cut with a butter knif e... not this time. Just mediocre $50 steak. Not going back.
A convenient location to meet prior to an event at Benaroya Hall. A dinner reservation made for a party of four at 5:45 pm. to make it to a 7:30 pm. event. Upon arrival we were greeted and told that they didn’t have/couldn’t find my Open table reservation. The other two members of our party were already seated and along with me producing my open table reservation receipt and their admission to finding the reservation, eventually we were seated. Our server started off on a great note. He was very knowledgeable about the menu, delivered our cocktails in a very timely manner, and helped us with choosing several varieties of oysters. We enjoyed our appetizers and were having a very pleasant time and then our entrees arrived. My friend and I had ordered the salmon with dill. Unfortunately it arrived with a side of substantial hair. These things happen and I try to be an understanding person but when we informed the waiter of the hair and that we also needed to get to a 7:30 event his response was “I’ll do my best to deliver a new entree but it would have worked out better if you had let me know of your time restraints when you were first seated.” My response... “We weren’t planning to need extra time due to hair in our entree!!!!” As you can imagine things went down hill from there. Waited for silverware and were given bread plates to share our entree. Again, these last two points are by no means the end of the world but being that I eat out a lot; from Michelan starred restaurants to local burger joints it’s all about how you handle errors and making your clientele feel valued. Personally I would have apologized, checked with the kitchen to be sure I could have accommodated my guests, and if not,
removed the ordered item off of the bill (something I think they should have done anyway as a professional courtesy). I gave the restaurant an overall 3 star because there were some positive points but I will never dine there again due to how the situation was han
Four of us dined at The Brooklyn and each enjoyed his meal. I am not a fan of oysters, so there was no appetizer alternative for me (other than a soup or salad.) Really wish there were so other choices for appetizers besides oysters.
This is a Seattle joint with an extended eat at bar, high back swivel chairs, booths, and old school jazz playing. Steak, oysters, beers, salmon, wine, drinks, jazz. Great staff. It's not the end of the world, its just a timeless Seattle standard.
The oysters, lobster ravioli, and steak were wonderful, the staff responsive and friendly, and the atmosphere was very nice.
The food was fine although a bit on the pricey side. This is definitely a business meeting spot. Atmosphere is pleasant.
We had the Crab cakes which were amazing. The Steak toreador (sp) were just as good. Great service from Nick, I highly recommend.
The varied menu had something for every appetite. Our food was excellent. Our wait staff was welcoming, helpful with the menu, and attentive to our needs.
Yes I would recommend this restaurant 🍴. Great food & excellent service. Had a fun time and the oysters were fresh. Very beautiful people and awesome atmosphere. I believe its better then the metropolitan grill. I will be going again. ThankX
I was a party of one visiting from out of town. What caught my eye was the tasting menu of oysters paired with beer, wine, vodka, etc. I was seated at the chef's counter and really enjoyed the view of what was happening in the kitchen as well as being able to ask the sous chef what the dishes were and having candid conversations with him and my server about their favorite dishes and what I was ordering. I found it very informative and truly enjoyed my meal. I had a steak for dinner and the key lime pie for dinner. All were top notch.
Our waiter was Dave, who has been there for many years, and he was fabulous! He made our dinner a wonderful experience, while making sure we got out on time for the Symphony. The food was fantastic, and enhanced with the wine pairings that the waiter suggested. Thanks so much for a wonderful evening.
Nicholas was warm, efficient and fun. My potato crusted cod and my husband's Bouillabaisse were exquisite.
15 years of great steaks comes to an end. Not interested in arguing with the line cook about whether medium rare means a blue center.....
We were from out of town and looking for a quiet, date night restaurant where we could enjoy delicious steaks. The food was so fresh. The bread seemed hand made on the premises. My medium rare steak was just that and served hot. I recommend this place for locals and anyone from out of town who wants a nice restaurant and/or bar without a lot of noise and where you can hear your date talking to you.
Also, if you want a unique experience, ask to be seated in the special section where you can watch the chefs at work!
I visited The Brooklyn on my own while in Seattle on business. I was able to easily get an early reservation for a party of 1 for the same day. When I arrived, I was given the choice of a table, or a seat at one of the captain's chairs at the chef's counter. This was a very fun experience, and one of the more comfortable "on my own" dinners I have had. The wine list had many local choices, which was great. The cocktail list looked very good as well, but I did not get a chance to try. The service was great, and the waiter gave me his very honest opinion about some of the choices, which I appreciated. I went with the salmon for dinner. The texture and cook on the fish was perfect, but the alder smoke was very mild and unfortunately did not give the dish any flavor. The vegetables that were served with the dish were barely warm. Overall, the food was disappointing for the price paid. The atmosphere was really nice though, and I would consider coming back for drinks and appetizers.
Went for lunch; ordered oyster sampler. Food was good and wait staff was professional, checking in frequently and explaining the different varieties of oysters. Biggest issue was front-of-house: distracted, slow in acknowledging guests coming in the door, no attempt to make eye contact...Not the best way to start an experience.
Been to the Brooklyn many times - great quality, wonderful service and reasonably priced.
Our dining experience was made outstanding mostly because of our service. Karey was phenomenal. She was friendly, to the point, real and very informative about what was great on the menu. We took her recommendations and had a great pre concert meal. We ordered the beer oysters pairings, and the scallop & calamari from the appetizers. We did expect there to be more on the scallop plate but the flavor and deliciousness did not disappoint. Thank you Karey, and The Brooklyn, for a wonderful dining experience!
A menu that is unique and food quality that is excellent. The overall value is not going to win awards but the experience is worth it. Their flights of various beverages and oysters will bring me back for visits in the future.
a bit slow. Some menu items take 1 hour to cook...not ok if doing anything else
The atmosphere was comfortable. The wine list was great, we had a red from Trust Vineyards in Walla Walla. The bread with olive oil was tasty. Our meals, cod and steak, were delicious. We will be back!!
Whenever we visit Seattle, we make sure to make a reservation go have dinner here! We love this restaurant. The atmosphere is wonderful and a great place to celebrate a special occasion the st and melt in your mouth. Don't forget to save room for dessert, it is amazing, too!
Excellent crabcake. Scallop was very good, though I prefer one without the seasoning. Salads were ok.
the oysters were perfect!! the Ahi tuna should be on the happy hour menu, not as a main course item. Super let down by that. The salmon, beautiful presentation, quality-fantastic, well done!
Wonderful food & great service! We were in a bit of a hurry to catch a show and our waiter made sure we ordered the appropriate dishes and we had a delicious meal with plenty of time to spare.
Always a favorite, we will be returning to The Brooklyn again soon.
No better steaks and oysters in Seattle... and the cod was simply amazing. We weren't rushed for our Valentines dinner despite having a premium table. The Brooklyn is a classic part of Seattle dining and always great for a date night.
I enjoyed my duck dinner. The menu is varied and service was great.
Disappointing service from our waiter. He wasn’t fully present—not aware, inexperienced, slow——-not the caliber that the Brooklyn deserves to have repping their place.
We stopped in for a lovely meal on our way to a show at the 5th Avenue Theater. Our server was lovely, and suggested the scallop appetizer, which was incredible. It was the perfect stop on our special night!
In my last review, I was very disappointed in the service we received that night. I am quite happy to report a much nicer experience in this go around. But I will mention that the waiter asked us up front about attending a show and made a strong point of emphasizing an early order. We had a lovely experience at an old favorite.
Always great service and great food, for any occasion.
Our experience was wonderful overall. Truly my only disappointment was a small part of my meal. We both ordered the filet minon. The steak was perfect and so were the potatoes. However my carrot and the onion ring must've been just for looks because they were hard as a rock. If your chef wants a bit of feedback I'd say take those off the dish. 😬 Thank you for a great evening and amazing service!!
Went to the Brooklyn for dinner after the Symphony since it is across the street from Benaroya Hall. The décor is charming, with French posters on the wall. It was like going back in time to a bar / restaurant in old Chicago. The steaks were impeccably prepared and wonderful. The oysters were amazingly fresh, some of the best we've ever had. However, the cod was a little overdone and the salmon still a bit on the raw side. So I would recommend mostly the oysters and steak. It is a bit pricey, even with sharing plates over $60/person. I imagine it would be a good place for executives to take in a business lunch / dinner and not a particularly affordable family outing.
We loved the restaurant--we had the option of being seated at a table or at the bar to watch the chefs cook. We chose the table which was very cozy and a bit quieter. The food and the service were great!
We had the privilege to dine at the Brooklyn for our early Valentine's Day weekend. Wow! is all I can say. The food the excellent, the service was superior, the ambiance was just what we wanted, romantic and quiet. Highly recommended!
John was our waiter. He was AWESOME! With hi great presence, service, and conversations, he made us feel welcomed and well cared for. His smile and knowledge of the menu were professional and added to the atmosphere of the place!!! Thanks John for a wonderful dining experience!!
Jon and Isabelle
Loved the quiet ambiance in our booth....we could easily HEAR each other which is a problem in many other restaurants. Excellent professional service, great cuisine, lovely, rich old ambiance. THANK YOU!
