The Broad Chare
Upstairs in the Dining Room, it’s all reassuringly simple with solid wood tables, sturdy schoolroom chairs and shiny brass coat-hooks.

Only problem was that the potatoes were served undercooked. There was no apology for this. They were taken away and microwaved but were still rather hard. Bit disappointing as we were showing restaurant to family.
Great Sunday lunch. The beef was beautiful & delicious. A good choice for Father’s Day lunch
Great location just off the Quayside. Lovely old building. Food great and wonderful beer well kept. Staff very helpful and attentive.
Went with my sister, had a lovely meal lovely dessert and the price for the quality was a nice surprise. Definitely on short list 😀👍
First visit, very impressed. Top level Gastro Pub food, excellent service to boot!
High quality meals coupled with relaxed and efficient service, Friendly welcoming atmosphere.
Wonderful Sunday lunch. Good value and impeccable service. Definitely recommend.
Booked on line for Sunday lunch for 4 people. Good food, presented well by attentive staff. Very relaxed atmosphere. Who could ask for more.
I had the Brill. Brother had the Liver. Both perfectly cooked. Very good gastro pub with nice ambience. Would recommend this place.
The Oxtail special and the bar snacks keep bringing me back. So many great things on the menu but you only get braised oxtail on Tuesdays.
Staff at the Broad Chare are always spot on. Service is always perfect. This place is still on of my favourite restaurants in Newcastle!!!
Great food and service, gets a little bit noisy when near full. Suggest eating early.
As always an enjoyable experience. Service very efficient but not imposing.
Price reflect quality of food and drinks.
Sunday lunch is always a special day in Newcastle . This venue helps make the day special.
Delicious plates, relaxed service, low-key atmosphere. The perfect chilled evening with excellent drinks menu.
On our periodic visits from Switzerland, eating out in Newcastle always means The Broad Chare. It's nice to have a place you know you can trust. Great food and a great ambience.
Great food, good value for money and clearly very popular!!
Really delicious food, imaginative menu, excellent and friendly staff, good beer, easy to book. Good central location. Will definitely recommend to others!
Outstanding cooking served by the friendliest staff. Brilliant evening, thank you
A delight, excellent British tasty food
Friendly, helpful staff and good food for a reasonable price. Great for a pre-concert meal.
Really amazing food and a lovely ambiance.
I booked the broad chare following a number of positive reviews from friends. I booked for a group of 5 of my family and had a lovely table upstairs (just the right amount of tables for a perfect atmosphere). We don't all get together that often so it was nice to have a relaxed ambiance so we could have a good catch up.
We started with a selection of bar snacks which were unbelievable!! My favourite was the monkfish cheek which was superb. These were really good value for money too - I think £3.95 a plate?
For mains two had the roast beef dinner which was cooked to perfection. Two had mussels which were cooked in a sensational broth with wheat beer and leek (I think!?). And the other had roast lamb which was also cooked to perfection.
All in all a fabulous afternoon from the food to the lovely waiter we had - my only quibble was that the specials which looked sensational were a little overpriced however I suppose you pay more value for the best quality dishes anyway!
Very happy customers :)
Superb as always. Sunday lunch cannot be beaten anywhere
Completely delicious, fantastic food and great service. Love the gin selection too
It was an amazing meal.
Food, staff and atmosphere were great, apart from a couple of noisy tables close to us. At times we could barely hear each other because of very loud and raucous conversation. Nevertheless it would not deter us from returning.
Fish dishes were especially enjoyed.
Good wines too.
Tough Roast pork was only negative in 18 courses.
When I heard my friends wanted to meet up for Sunday lunch, there was only one venue where we could possibly meet and enjoy not only good company, good food and excellent service, it had to be Broad Chare. None of us was disappointed. The Sunday roasts was as delicious as ever. Always a treat to eat at Broad Chare. You are guaranteed to receive a warm welcome and be well looked after. Thank you Broad Chare.
excellent visit to the broad chare as usual - sunday lunch before the rugby at st james park
Excellent food, beautifully cooked. Really good red wine at a reasonable price. And the service was great. We had a fab evening and will definitely return
Great. Warmly welcomed, interesting food choices beautifully cooked. Great drinks and prompt service. I can see this becoming a regular haunt.
Our 1st visit here...what a find excellent food 1st class. We visited Newcastle for 1st time so wanted a restaurant that was not in a big chain we wanted quirky and different.
The food was faultless.
Haven’t been for a while and it was brilliant . The food is amazing and the staff are friendly and helpful . We had Sunday lunch, which as I’ve said was amazing, good size portions very tasty , the rubarb, merengue and vanilla cream desert was one of the best things I’ve had. Reasonable price considering it included the service charge
Once again first class food and service at the Broad Chare. Still the place to beat for Sunday Lunch. Yet to find better in and around Newcastle.
Absolutely fabulous! Food was amazing and the place was buzzing. Will definately recommend and will definately be returning! Thank you
Excellent food, the lamb dinner was very tasty. Always have a great meal every time we go. Great service from staff. A place with character and very friendly.
Went for a pub lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Nice restaurant but service v. slow.
First time to Newcastle and this pub was a great pick. Lovely food, lovely service and a nice place for relaxed evening.
This was the best meal we have enjoyed for some time. The choices were excellent: so good that it was difficult to choose, so we will go back soon. The only slight down was that the red wine was too warm. The staff member offered a replacement but we chose to use an ice bucket to cool it a bit. The way they coped with this was courteous and efficient.
Although the three of us getting together on Monday evening was not a particularly special occasion in itself, the whole experience of dining at Broad Chare certainly is. I love the fact that it is off the beaten track but is nonetheless well known and well loved. I cannot recall any occasion when I have had a poor eating/service experience at Broad Chare. Long may you continue to meet and exceed your own very high standards. Thank you Broad Chare visiting with you is always a pleasure never a chore!
Sharing steak was beautifully cooked and very tender.
Never disappoints. Food is always freshly prepared and very tasty. Service was flawless and the hosts friendly.
