About The Breakwater - Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa
"The Breakwater" name speaks to the heritage of our setting; the original breakwater was formed to calm Comox Harbour so loggers could form their bounty into booms for tugs to transport. Just up the shoreline, several ships were scuttled to create a breakwater. Today, those silent hulls serve as an iconic reminder of the perils that faced coastal pioneers. "The Breakwater" speaks of the restaurant's proximity to the ocean, as well as the rich history of the Comox Valley. We invite you to enjoy the warm atmosphere, friendly service, and fresh, creative West Coast cuisine in the Breakwater restaurant or on our patio — all with one of the best views in the Pacific Northwest. We're committed to bringing you the bounty of Vancouver Island. The surrounding waters are famed for salmon, halibut, sable-fish, shrimp, crab, mussels, oysters, clams and more. Our climate supports a vast range of vegetables, fruits, and herbs… to say nothing of the wild foods that pops up without anyone's help

The Breakwater - Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa Ratings and Reviews
This was the first time in the new dining room, everything is lovely except for the art, no worries the restaurant has a fabulous view. We found the only people who looked happy to be working were the hostess and busboy. No one was rude, but no one was very friendly either, server didn't introduce themselves and we waited over 20 mins to get a drink we ordered when we sat down. I think we prefer the old fashion over the top type overly attentive kind of service, which I realize is not very popular anymore. (generation thing) Food was tasty, but the plating does not match your pricing, it lacked sophistication. If I am honest, I would make the appetizers smaller and lower the price, they make better sharing plates than individual servings before a dinner. Overall it was a good experience, but not a great experience for the price.
We went there for my husband's birthday. Fabulous meal. Service was great. Waitress was helpful and had good recommendations. I heard her talking about the area and she was quite knowledgeable. They gave my husband a lovely dessert, free of charge with a candle in it. We really enjoyed the evening. The view was amazing. The whole experience was wonderful.
The view is fantastic - overlooking the water. The food was fresh & tasty - I had buttermilk Chicken & my boyfriend had the martini mussels. The bowl of mussels was generous & delicious and my chicken was tender & juicy (not always the way with a chicken breast). But the highlight of the visit for us was our server. She was friendly without overdoing; had a great sense of humour and was informative about the menu. Definitely a great asset for the restaurant!
About to undergo renovations to make a bistro and wine bar and casual dining restaurant which is going to be much better with comparable bars and restaurants now opened up in town. Beautiful surroundings with Eagles flying by makes dining there a great experience. I only go for brunch or lunch as much better value. Great buffets on special occasions , just to expensive now for the amount I eat.
My wife and I, attended the restaurant for Sunday lunch, my wife had the salmon and I had the steak sandwich, both were very good. We also had desert which was also very good. The waitress was very pleasant and friendly and very knowledgeable in regards to items on the menu.
We would definitely return to your restaurant.
We were for a birthday weekend, and had occasion to have both breakfast and dinner. Lucked out with the weather so breakfast vIew was a bonus. Service, although a bit slow, was pleasant. Food was great. Two steaks and two sablefish entrees were cooked to perfection. The fact that the restaurant uses locally sourced products was much appreciated. Most definitely will be coming back after the renovation.
The entrees were not worth the price; insufficient and nothing to write home about. In fact our friends only ordered appetizers and they looked better than the entrees.
The waitress was not very professional, was not at all helpful in helping our friend chose gluten free options. She was also inattentive and slow.
I also called ahead to the restaurant while my husband was out of town to surprise him by letting the restaurant know it was a special occasion; his birthday. I was assured that this would be recognized on the evening as "we always go the extra mile and help celebrate such occasions".
My husband's birthday was not mentioned or recognized in any way; not even a "Happy Birthday" from the staff.
Very disappointed and won't be going back anytime soon.
My wife and I just spent three days at the resort for our 25th wedding anniversary.
We ate dinner at the restaurant twice during our stay. Our compliments to the chef!! The food was excellent! We enjoyed a memorable beet salad, tasty sea scallops and pork belly with carrot puree and some perfectly prepared raw oysters on a succulent seaweed base.
The service....well, there's definitely room for improvement; eg. lifting empty dinner plates over your head, not once asking how the meal was, not keeping the water topped up, no offering of fresh ground pepper for your meal. We brought a special bottle of wine for our special night fully prepared to pay the corkage and our server simply opened and poured without leaving even ten seconds for some breathing time. The tables could be positioned differently so that everyone can enjoy the view. There's plenty of room between window columns to accommodate this. It would have been nice to have our 25th anniversary acknowledged in some way. We mentioned this special occasion on our open table reservation, at the front desk as well as to our server. My wife was wished a happy birthday during the meal and corrected our server as to the fact that it was our anniversary but the server collected the signed bill and wished her a HB once again. LOL.
It's all about the details...you don't always get a second chance to make a first impression.
We have used the restaurant many times in the past. We were very disappointed in the meal and the value. In fact I would say that this was the worst value for a meal I have ever had. Out of probably the last 300 opportunities. The staff did not even ask me for any comment. I expected better.

Ordered the halibut for dinner. The halibut was good but what it came with was less than satisfying. It was a pea puree that was - I'm sorry - but gross. Also no starch (i.e. potato or rice). I am glad that we ordered caesar salad to start or we would have left hungry as my husband and I are not big dessert fans.
We have been to Kingfisher many times but both of us said we are reluctant to go back as the last time we were there the restaurant was closed for a private function. I would have thought that Kingfisher would notify their patrons of this upon reserving.
My friend and I have been meeting at the Kingfisher for several years for our annual catch-up and I was absolutely shocked at the increase in price since the last time we were here. It was my turn to pay but after receiving the bill, we decided to go Dutch. Unbelievably expensive - view or not!
The menu had too much fish & seafood which I can't eat. There were very few other choices. I am guessing here but I think that about 80% of the menu was fish & seafood. I asked the waitress for a toothpick. I asked her a second time and finally asked another waitress. We asked to see the breakfast menu and had to ask three times. For those who love seafood it would be probably be great!
Our first impression of the menu was quite exciting but then 3 of the entrees were removed and we were told they were coming out with a new menu. Our thoughts were that they should have kept the old menu and all it's items until the new menu was printed and even then, for those who had been before, kept some 'leftovers' until people got used to the new menu. It's disappointing when you can 'taste' something in your mind all afternoon and when it comes to actual mealtime, told it no longer exists!
We have attended mothers day brunch here for the last four years. All of our experiences prior to this one have been positive. The service, although friendly was inefficient and lacking professionalism. The food had a nice selection as usual; however, most of it was only luke warm. Overall it wouldn't have been a complete disaster if not for the price. We fully expect a higher than average bill when eating at King Fisher, but in this case the value was simply not theregiven the high cost.
I booked a birthday dinner and the poor waitress did not mention it. One meal had to be sent back. The caesar salad was dry and not what we expected. The bread was terrible.the crust was so stale we had to cut it off. The waitress was told and did nothing to correct or offer to correct the bread. The waitress in my opinion acted like a snob, she was not very friendly. We have been there for lunch and had a very good meal and time we expected more for dinner.
This one is well hidden from the road and caters to a higher caliber of clientele while maintaining a reachable price for fine dining. We were very pleased all around and for Valentines Day even included a complimentary photograph of us, printed on the spot.
We went for the 3 course , prix fixe Thanksgiving dinner. the oyster appetizer was amazing. The two huge baked oysters were delicious. We then had entrees of the turkey (the white meat was moist!) and trimmings, and the salmon and risotto. Both dishes were well prepared with seasonal veggies. The risotto was slightly underdone, which is much better than having it overcooked and mushy. Dessert was to die for: pumpkin cheesecake with a caramelized sugar top, pumpkin brittle, poached pear, and raspberry sorbet. The wine pairings with each dish were good as well, although the port would have been worth upgrading to match the awesomeness of dessert.
I dinged one star on service because the server leaned over my wife to show her something on the menu and actually rested her elbow on my wife's shoulder. We had not, to that point nor after, achieved a degree of familiarity which would make it acceptable.
This is not fine dining...but far better than the usual resort fare.
Bistro size plates....prepared with some thought...not for foodies....not gourmet..but a great attempt.
Scallops...presented well but slighlty overlooked....Pork tenderloin tough, and yet pink, served with overcooked spicy vegetables.
Waitress friendly...wine good selection.
Enjoyed a fabulous dinner there the other night. Had the calamari to start (which was cooked to perfection! Not an easy task) and I shared the bread and butter with my partner..which could have had more bread in it then just 2 small pieces per person..for my main I had the grilled chicken which was very well proportioned and super tasty! To finished it off I had the creme brûlée which was a nice way to end off the evening. I enjoyed every bit of my meal and plan on returning!
