The Brass Rail - Locust Valley Ratings and Reviews
We went to Brass Rail for Restaurant Week. The appetizers were great: cauliflower soup and gnocchi. We both had the squash ravioli for the main course which was average only. Desserts were better than average but not outstanding--carrot cake and apple strudel with ice cream. The noise level on a Tuesday night was moderate. We could carry on a nice conversation. The bar, right behind me was full (no standing) and a ball game was on the TV, which sort of took away a little bit from the atmosphere. If we had been seated in the back, it wouldn't have been an issue. Overall, a satisfying but not exceptional dinner.
Wonderful local gem with fantastic food . Daily specials and wonderful for bar menu or dinner . The skirt steak and meatloaf were wonderful . Nice wine selection. Great desserts all homemade specialities . Great that it was a Monday and our anniversary and there was a great place to spend it . Thanks for the candle celebration and well wishes .
This has always been one of my favorite restaurants and it is really disappointing to write a fair review. The caesar salad is good but difficult to eat due to how it is served. Too much work for both myself and the kitchen. Just serve it like a regular caesar salad, chopped romaine in a bowl, rather than a hunk of lettuce I need to cut up. The real problem was - I told the waitress to serve me the salmon pink in the middle. Well it came fully cooked and dry. I have never never left over my salmon. There was so much left over the waitress wanted to know if I wanted it wrapped. When I told her it was not cooked to my specifications she just said oh. Someone should talk to her. Maybe a free glass of wine, desert for the able. But oh?????
I thought the food was very good as was the service. There were 4 of us and we all liked our dinner. I had sliced duck which was very good, the Pad thai with shrimp was also very good as was the sliced strip steak and the rack of Lamb. We also had the lobster mac and cheese which was good but could have used more lobster. I thought the prices weren’t cheap but not unreasonable, I would certainly go back.
Was here Thursday eve. Our server seemed rushed & disinterested. She seemed to be working in a diner not a restaurant. There were no pleasantries, or chit chat. She dropped off menues in passing then came back by doing something else to get a quick drink order then did the same for our dinner order. It was all very quick. The place wasn't very busy but she seemed rushed. She replaced our silverware by tossing them on the table. I felt like we walked into a cute restaurant expecting a relaxing meal but service was like a diner. Food was great! Nice wine by the glass list. Wish we had a more professional server.
The Brass Rail's Locust Valley location is a great place to meet friends for excellent food and conversation or, if you prefer, to join the restaurant's vibrant bar scene. On this occasion we requested one of the rear tables for a quiet dinner with friends. Three of us ordered the chateaubriand entree, which was done to perfection. Our server was attentive, and we really enjoyed ourselves. I would definitely recommend The Brass Rail as a reliable fine dining choice on LI's N Shore.
Always impressive. Nice drinks selection. Too our friends and they loved the place. Food was good but not as good as usual. Service was great until you pay. Never came back after the check was paid although we were still waiting for a drink order. Nevertheless, an excellent experience.
Very quiet, possibly due to the fact it was summer in the afternoon in Locust Valley. Face value doesn't do it justice. In a strip mall where we parked and both gave each other a second look as to if we were going in. But once inside it was quiet and had a nice ambiance. The food was great, seafood and burgers!
The Brass Rail offers a varied, seasonally updated menu presented in an attractive, relaxed wood-panelled setting. Service is attentive, and the cuisine is exceptional. I tried the Brass Rail's Wild Boar for my entree, and it was delicious. I look forward to trying more of their unusual dishes on future visits.
looking for a nice drive on a beautiful evening and found our way to the Brass Rail. Had read some reviews where people complained about the server's attitude. We certainly did not experience that. Our waitress could not have been nicer. Started with the rock shrimp which was crisp, hot and plentiful. More than enough for two to share. I ordered the chicken pallaird and my husband got a burger. I askes for dressing on the side but they forgot and served it dressed. They immediately offered to make me a new salad. But unlike many places it was not swimming in dressing so I declined. Manager came over and also asked. Again thanks but no thanks. We enjoyed the meal and the beautiful bar area. My one complaint is that they offer only one Cabernet by the glass at $20 a pop... think they need to have a less expensive option. But that's trivial. We'll definitely be back!
