The Brass Door
We are "the local meeting place" for business and social events in the San Ramon Valley. It is a place where generation after generation of families has come to meet friends and family. It is a place where newcomers to the valley soon become old friends.
The Brass Door, formerly known as the 8/5 Club, was established by Howard Schlesinger in 1946. It was originally a six-stool bar and 20-person dining facility. Schlesinger's son, Mickey, and his partner Dick Basso bought the club in 1955. Soon after, they renamed the club The Brass Door. Over the years, the partners expanded the facility to include a 20-stool bar, 50-seater cocktail lounge and a dining area for 160 guests. Following a brief closure in 1994 due to a fire, the restaurant was rebuilt from its original location.
My favorite place to dine in San Ramon. DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING!!!!
Went for a Birthday celebration which I indicated on the reservation but there was no acknowledgement of the occasion. The Prime Rib was disappointing and tough
Brass door is one of the last Old time restaurants around.
We always enjoy the great service and fabulous menu.
Good service & good food.
Great prices with feel at home charm.
Everything about it was great!
Food was fair. Service was good. Value for the dollar below average.
Every dish was excellent. Service was excellent. It's a little noisy with no soft materials to deaden other diner's voices but not enough so that you can't hear your tablemates' conversation. The calamari fritti was very good, not greasy at all. The Calamari Siciliano was so tasty. The guys really enjoyed their prime rib with broiled shrimp. Even the veggies, sauteed green beans and creamed spinach were very good. The minestrone soup was a big hit. The clam chowder was average. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and service. This place is a big hit with seniors as they offer smaller "senior" portions of many dishes at a reduced price. We'll be back!
Great service. Wished they served the prime rib earlier.
We return because it is always a good experience! For over MANY years this had been a "go to" for family and friends! Thank you !!
Service was excellent. Great wine list with ice price points. The steaks were excellent. Sides were good as well, especially Texas Toast
As usual, it was very good. I love the senior portions. Two of us had the special halibut and it was excellent with the Chardonnay sauce. The husbands had short ribs and steak kabob so everyone enjoyed their meals.
The restaurant is very tired and really needs an update. Food was mediocre. Grandsons ravioli's tasted delicious but my stroganoff beef was anything but tender....the sauce was pretty tasteless. I was extremely disappointed in my meal.
Always a great dining experience at The Brass Door. Awesome bartender and waitress. Always our “go to” location for special occasions and Sunday brunch.
Knew the place was going to be dated but thought the food would be good. Garlic bread to start was a nice touch but could have used a lot more butter/topping. The onion soup was tasty but very little cheese on top. My husband never got the crab cake he ordered. The roast beef and steak were average at best. Not sure what the white sauce that came with the steak was. I’ve always wanted to try this place, now that I have we will not be back.
Jill is the most awesome waitress!
everything was a Hit - thank you for making reservations so easy to make
Salad was fresh with a great dressing. Veal liver and onions was melt-in-your-mouth (for those who like liver and onions).
My wife and I had not been back to the Brass Door for quite some time but decided to go on a Tuesday and had a great steak dinner. I had a filet and my wife a NY, We ordered medium rare and mine was more toward blood rare but a great piece of meat. We split a shrimp cocktail and instead got a crab cocktail which was OK as we both like crab too, almost a meal in itself. The outside of the Brass door looks like it did back in the 60's but the inside is clean and friendly. We pretty much had the back room to ourselves (the booth area) other than a 2 other couples at the time we were there (earlybird). The restaurant experience was great our waitress very attentive and my only complaint is another couple across the room talking about how bad their lives were and wish they could have a do over. I normally ignore others when dining but their nose level was hard to miss, then the cell phone rang so we got to find out about her daughters problems too! All that aside he food was great and we wil be back hopefully with other guests next time.
The food has not changed over the years even with new ownership. Always a good meal!
This is one of our favorite places for lunch and dinner. Food is always very good. It was a special occasion as I brought two of my best friends for their birthdays. Although the noise level is lively - where they sat us was a booth next to the conference room where there was a very energetic meeting going on with both doors open. It was very distracting. We moved to another booth and when I explained to one of the waitresses why we moved she said that if it was bothering us we could move to another room. All they had to do is close the doors - which I asked them to do - we were comfortable - noise level was reduced so we could enjoy our own conversation.
Great service, good food but interior needs major renovations- banquet upholstery all worn out.
We always have a great dining experience at the Brass Door. It’s our “go to” Sunday brunch location. Great staff and great food always.
Great place for a good, solid meal. Not fancy, but more "homey". Always excellent service. The best hot garlic bread around- and at no extra cost.
Excellent food as always, uncrowded feel though lots of diners there. Megan gave us fine service and we are always very satisfied when we depart.
The Brass Ring is an excellent restaurant with some great food and service so it is probably one of the best in the Tri Valley Area
it is time for a remodel of the restaurant! Yes it is a neighborhood gem but it really needs updating.
2 prime rib dinners, both excellent. Senior dinner is very generous.
The food had no flavor, no seasoning at all. Very disappointing.
Despite the restaurant being loud at 6:45 PM due to several large parties, I always enjoy the Prime Rib French Dip Sandwich.
We always go with friends there. Great food and great price. I had veal parmesan for $14.99 !!!!!! Heck, my drinks were way More! Delicious too!
Has become one of our very favorite restaurants. Food was excellent with enough for leftovers. Our Server Jill is always excellent and very friendly.
Good food and service at reasonable prices.
Not good food good garlic bread that’s about it
The Brass Door is a great place to celebrate birthdays. I took my friend there on Friday to celebrate hers. We chose the Prime Rib which was prepared to perfection, as were all of the sides. We really enjoyed the mini sundae for dessert. We will definitely be back!
Great place to eat. Good food, excellent service. Jennifer is an outstanding waitress.
Consistently good food; however, the service this last time was terrible; it was the worse in all the years I've been going to this restaurant. Note: The best waitress is the server who works in the back room.
Fist time dining here and our server, Katherine, was awesome. She was warm, friendly and often checked on us to see how we were doing. The food was good and they offer a lot of selection, however, the presentation could use a little fluffing. The ambiance is more of a traditional steak house. I actually appreciate the look and feel of it as it reminds me of some of the older steak houses in SF that serve steak and seafood.
Let's start with the good...one of the most tender prime ribs we've had. Fried chicken looked good too.
Waiter was very polite and friendly. He provided nice service. Now the not-so-good....cold baked potato, cold rice pilaff, lukewarm clam chowder, side dishes were mediocre at best. The restaurant building itself is very dated, furnishings are dated, the booth we sat at was uncomfortable, your knees hit the middle bar located under the table and I'm 5'6", not much room, carpet looks grungy. This place needs a face-lift. I heard bar drinks are very good, I'll try that next time.
