The venue looks very nice however the food is like an average pub dining rather than gastro pub. It is not bad but I was expecting a bit more
I’m not a fan of pub roasts.. but the Bollo’s was amazing and will repeat Sunday lunch there without hesitation
Sunday lunch: generous portions for the roast options. Friendly staff.
Average meal for me, although 3 of our party of 4 were happy. Service slow despite not full restaurant. Staff very pleasant. Appeared overworked as only 2 dealing with everything. Won't go again.
I have been to the BOLLO on numerous occasions and the food has always been amazing , however on this occasion , the food was below average, I had burger , this was dry , unpleasant . One of my friend had the chicken , it was over cooked and burnt .
The service ? Well , I thought it was outstanding . Our waitress was very friendly , helpful and attentive .
We went for dinner at 6pm on a Sunday. The food was absolutely delicious (we had Sunday roast) but the pub was mostly empty with no atmosphere.
This is my local and looks like a lovely pub so I should be in there a lot. But there's just something wrong every time I go in that makes me not want to come back. And I think it's just that it isn't welcoming. When I go into The Roebuck or The Duke of Sussex - similar pub restaurants in Chiswick - they are really welcoming and friendly and there's more of an ambiance. I think the Bollo needs a totally different attitude. And probably new staff.
The food is actually pretty good. So it's a shame the pub isn't better.
Nice location and atmosphere. Food used to be a whole lot better, but seems to have gone down. Particularly let down by a bland quinoa salad with very dry chicken. In fairness, others enjoyed their meals (burger, chicken sandwich, and ham) though also commented that it had gone down since they had previously been there.
Had a lovely evening and dinner for NYE!
Great food! Staff are friendly
Good sized portions and make sure you try the desserts!
There were several tables which were not within range of loudspeakers, so it was possible for elderly persons to confer. I would suggest that you disconnect more dynamically according to the number of customers and their apparent age. 5 stars for ambience would then Bea possibility.
A terrible evening. We had booked the Bollo for a family meal with my son and daughter-in-law on Christmas Eve at 18:30. The service was extremely slow but we weren't in any particular hurry. After the main course (after waiting over 30 minutes), we asked the waitress for the dessert menu. She then told us that the kitchen was closed and had been closed since 19:30 (which was strange as we had our main meal at about 20:00). Nobody had mentioned this early closing when we booked the meal or even when we arrived at the restaurant. It was as though it was completely normal to arrive for an evening meal on Christmas Eve and to have eaten the meal within an hour. There was no apology as the staff seemed to think this was completely normal. It was about at this time that a big commotion erupted in the kitchen. Through the kitchen window, we could see pans flying through the air and then crashing on the floor. This lasted at least for more than 30 minutes until we left the restaurant. Maybe this is standard for the Bollo but it is not what I expect when going out for a festive meal. One thing is certain - we won't be visiting the Bollo ever again.
The pub was horribly noisy as there was a pub quiz on did not allow my friend and I to have a conversation without shouting at each other. The waitress was constantly interrupting us, not waiting for a pause in our conversation so the service was extremely instrusive.
The food was tasty and well cooked, if quite pricey at £40 a head for two courses!
The Bollo used to be a real favourite of ours but I definitely would not return again on a Tuesday.
Disappointing service and the food was underwhelming .
very good service , food was good but overall quite expensive. Will not return
I can’t tell if this is a good place I caught on a bad night or a bad place on a good night. Fine seems such a sad word
This used to be a fun buzzy place but although it looked lovely there was no one else eating and only a few people in the bar area. We were there at 8 and they had run out of the chicken option which seemed pretty ridiculous. Puddings were bland and the rose wine we ordered was horrible. The chips however were fantastic! The service from the waitress excellent. Mint tea was the real thing. But, overall, there are so many places to eat in Chiswick I wouldn't bother going back here in a hurry in the evening, although someone said on Sunday lunchtimes it's very crowded?
Great relaxed place, friendly staff and good food!
Food was ok but very limited vegetarian and vegan options (half of our party were one or the other) and a bit overpriced for the portion size. However, the lemon chicken is TO DIE FOR.
The service was friendly and very accommodating. The waitress was knowledgable regarding the dishes and was always on hand to top up drinks.
Would go back for a drink, probably not for a meal.
A lovely roast, just like Mother used to cook! Not Gourmet, but solid excellent tasty eating. Friendly and helpful staff nice environment. The beer was OK as well. There specialty is roasts. I had the pork roast (Beef and Chicken had run out, by Sunday evening) and it was great. Go check it out for yourself.
The food was excellent and well presented.
I have been here regularly as I used to work very close to it.
On this occasion they misplaced the order and we waited a very long time to be served. The service delay was not well acknowledged.
Very slow waiter who didn't even come to our table after asking for him 3 times. They tried to blame it on being busy but the place was half full. We managed to get our food after an hour of waiting... Would not recommend.
When we arrived, it became apparent that we needn't have booked. The restaurant area only had one table occupied. It took a while for us to be given menus and to take our orders, even though the staff were friendly. Unfortunately though roast chicken Sunday lunch ordered by my date was cold, the Yorkshire pudding was just air, the roasties had no crispness to them at all and my date pretty much left their entire meal. We were offered drinks to compensate, but declined. My vegetarian option had no real flavour to it (can't even remember what it was, it was so bland).
We had some great cocktails though.
Given this meal, I wouldn't recommend the Bollo House as a restaurant. It's still a great pub though and has a nice atmosphere.
Was really confused. The OpenTable menu looked great - gastopub fare with good reviews: miso glazed rabbit; charred cauliflower; devilled liver with pickled girolle mushrooms etc. Got there and it was fish & chips; burger & chips; pie. Very average pub food. Unrecognisable menu. Nothing gasto about it. When I asked, they said the menu changes from time to time. Eating tables are in a corner of the main bar space, which was really noisy. On the plus side, I love a meal where I can order a pint. All in all, it was all a bit disappointing. Pub food in a local boozer, upsold on OpenTable. Won't be going back.
Having been a regular at the Bollo House some years ago, we stopped going after the pub was bought out by the Metropolitan group and things nose dived. After a recent visit where it seemed to be back to almost it's old self, my husband and I booked a table for lunch with our parents.
Two of our party ordered one of the two seabass dishes from the menu only to be brought out the other when they served our food. Upon asking why this was, we were told that the dish they had ordered had actually been taken off the menu and so they had decided to substitute for this one. No mention of this was made until we challenged them as to why we were being served different dishes to what we had ordered. All we received was a limp 'sorry' and a shrug of the shoulders, followed by a half hearted offer to swap the dishes for something else. When we pointed out that this would mean half the party would be eating later than everyone else, we were once again met with another limp shrug and half hearted apology. Rather than cause a fuss and seeing how little the staff cared, they ended up eating the other seabass so as not to spoil the day.
Greatly disappointed to see such poor service in a venue that once had great and enthusiast staff.
Probably won't be back anytime soon, unfortunate to see what was once one of our favourite lunch spots in the area go downhill like this - shame because the food has actually improved.
Lovely dinner, helpful staff. We were sat at a table far from the fire and by the toilet door when only one other table was occupied; we were told this was because we had booked through Open Table; probably we should have made more fuss about it.
fantastic food served by a fantastic friendly team - its always a pleasure to visit the Bollo.
Love that it is a local dog friendly place!
Above average pub food and good wine selection. Slightly over attentive service for me
Picked this place based on other reviews and really glad we did. Food was beautifully prepared and delicious; especially banoffe cheesecake. The staff were also very friendly and attentive. All in all great food in warm inviting pub.
Good food and service. It was a second visit, and I just can't fault it.
Great pub, good choice of beers & wine, varied menu.Didn't like the undercooked veg .
Lovely meal. Nice warm room, attentive service, excellent food, good wine list.
Always great food and friendly staff. Our friends (first timers at the Bollo) stated that the chicken roast dinner was the best they had ever eaten. Portions are very generous and the Yorkshire puds are made by aliens as they were the biggest and fluffiest I have ever seen. Ox cheek pie was absolutely delicious, but although very good, the lemon tart could have done with being more tart. Definitely recommend and we're looking forward to revisiting soon.
We had a trio of roasts and it was delicious - very filling
Nice food, great service. Lovely fish and chips and roast beef great but I prefer mine more pink, however that's personal preference.
Great value and one the best fish and chips served in Chiswick. Ample seating and friendly staff.
very impressed. good service . good food. a real find
we were all very pleased not only with the food but with the ambience and the general feel of the place.
We always go there on Tuesday nights for the pub quiz. The atmosphere is great all week round though and the food is really good. The team is friendly and helpful.
Service and Food always of a very high quality. Ideal for a Business Lunch Meeting.
