The Boathouse at Saugatuck Rowing Club Ratings and Reviews
Great food; great service, all in a beautiful setting on the Saugatuck River. As you would expect from a restaurant in a rowing club, the decor is nautical, but it is done in an elegant, upscale style befitting its location in Westport. The quiet ambience and unhurried service was perfect for catching up with friends we hadn't seen in quite a while. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were just right; big enough but not overwhelming. In short, a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Looking forward to going back. Can't wait to dine outside on the balcony when the weather warms up.
Great views, nice venue with mediocre food served by sullen incompetent waiters. Bottle of sparkling water arrived lukewarm. Waiter could not figure out which bottle of rose we wanted, even though there was only a single rose listed on the menu! Multiple servers came and went, but all forgot to provide refills of wine or water.
We had not been to the Boathouse in a few years. We Decided to go for a friends birthday dinner and was pleased with the overall ambiance, cleanliness, food, and friendly staff. We enjoyed the large shrimp cocktail and arugula salad to start, and we each loved our dishes which were the Risotto , The Bronzino, and also the homemade pasta w sauce. Each selection Was tasty And would have again in the future. Have recommended a few friends to check it out and we will be back !
My wife an I went looking for a place to have dinner on Friday evening and ended up here after checking the reviews. While the service was attentive and the view from the terrace was great, the food was boring and bland. I was surprised by the lack of excitement on the menu given the reviews. While the fish was fresh and cooked properly, it was uninteresting and something I can have better at home.
Hadn't been here in a couple of years. Glad we thought of coming back. So many restaurants to choose from that sometimes you forget. We were a party of 4 and we all tried something different. Everyone was pleased with their meals. Great service too from our waiter Paul. Will be back real soon.
The welcome when we entered was sincere and charming, the table was what I had requested, my two friends and myself were pleased with the service, the menu, and the quiet beauty of the river. The food was prepared to our requirements, with a couple of additional and specific wants. We will dine here again for every season. Very pleased with the service.

The Boathouse is located in a beautiful, scenic spot. We dined outside on the balcony terrace. It is in a nice private club, but the restaurant was sadly subpar. The food was disappointing in quality, especially for the price. The two filet mignons ordered were not served medium rare and the cut looked odd- almost like pot roast or like an unevenly-thick steak (it was well done and didn't look like it would get better if one complained). The "hot" lobster roll was tough and lukewarm. The service staff was nice, but seemed inexperienced and confused at times. We were left alone when we could have used attention or water etc. The dishes were not all served at the same time, despite having two wait staff. I enjoyed sitting outside and the atmosphere of the club itself, but it was a lackluster meal and the prices were higher than they should have been. Even the terrace could have been styled a little better, and the inside seating area did not look inviting. Too bad..it had great potential!
Early evening on a recent Thursday we ate here. We were pleased with the heated porch option with view of the river and kids boating. The appetizers were delicious, but the seafood pasta entrées were a disappointment! This entree was bland and drenched in an oily sauce. The waiters didn't respond when it was returned mostly uneaten. It's unfortunate because the setting is so nice.
We had a family dinner at The Boathouse on mother's day weekend. The restaurant is small and acoustics are good...so it was a nice and quiet setting. Although the room overlooks the Saugatuck river, our table was in a corner so we didn't have the best outside views. The food exceeded our expectations; fish and meat was cooked well and flavorful. Don't expect an extensive menu; the Boathouse offers only a few choices although all were appealing. There is no kids menu but the restaurant will cook up pasta if need be for a little one
The setting at The Boathouse is beautiful, our food was very good and the service was attentive but unrushed. The crab cake appetizer is amazing and the salads were good. Our only complaint was that the steak and the lamb chops were a little under cooked, although they tasted great.
We will definitely be back.
Liked this before but been 2 years since I went. It really wasn't that good. Food average and service/hostess/everything seemed inexpert like they just opened and weren't ready. Limited menu and food was just ok. Pricing fine. Just wouldn't go back in a hurry. Setting lovely. They should dig out the old menus and go back to that. Everyone was nice but ....
Interesting Italianesque place, but with a very small menu -- just a handful of entrees, so look before you come. I thought the dishes were good, and the service good as well. Small wine list as well. So, small room, small menu, small wine list, pretty good cooking, and nice view of the Saugatuck River.
It was our first visit and expectations were high. Lobster Bisque barely carried the flavor of lobster and not much in the way of lobster meat at all. My rack of lamb was well done on the edges and cold rare in the center. The short rib ragu was bland. Drinks are expensive but the view is nice and our server was great. We were expecting better overall.
This was our first experience at the Boat House Restaurant. We had had cocktails downstairs twice and thought the setting was lovely. We were celebrating an anniversary and wanted to try the restaurant. The staff could not have been nicer. I had asked for a table by the window and they made sure I had one. The food was very good.
We enjoyed a lovely dinner with friends at the Boathouse last weekend. Food and atmosphere were lovely. We had a spacious window table and we were not rushed at all. Only downside was that our waiter was intrusive - his timing was off throughout the meal - several times unnecessarily interrupting our conversations or inserting himself into our discussion. We will definitely plan to try the Boathouse again, as overall it was a very pleasant evening with wonderul food.
Dinner for 4 on a Saturday night was wonderful. The nautical ambiance is divine and the food was amazing. It has been a while since we dined so I can't remember everything we had, but suffice it to say my duck was memorable! We are planning to go back soon since we enjoyed it so much. We dined in December, but the location would be amazing in the summer with dinner on their deck.
