We had dinner here early on a Friday evening, and the atmosphere could not have been better. Looking out on the Saugatuck River as rowers were going about their business. The boats were fun to watch, and the light sounds of the student rowers talking below added a lot of positive energy. Wait staff were very nice and accommodating, and they made suggestions when we had questions. A very friendly place! We will definitely head there again.
It was a lovely setting for a family to celebrate a 90th birthday.
The food was quite good, good variety of offerings. Much nicer in the spring and summer. Feels more like a sports club in the winter. Doesn't have the ambiance it has when you can dine on the terrace.
The service was particularly bad. Plate left on the table for far too long. Not attention to additional drink orders or anything else.
The server and manager were nice but inattentive.
We think the original operator of the restaurant is no longer there as we have previously dined here and NEVER before have been so disappointed. From wait staff (slow and very busy chatting amongst themselves), the drinks (ordered an expresso martini - worst I have EVER had!), food (words cannot even start to explain how bland and tasteless everything was.. they even managed to overcook a salmon that was meant to be medium-rare!), ambiance (they put our table so close to other tables that people (both guests AND staff) were constantly bumping into our table (with no apologies!).. WILL NEVER EVER EVER EVER go here again!!!
Nice yacht club setting! Funny how the waiter did not know recommended drinks from the restaurant web-site. Relaxed, not rushed at all. six of us dining 3 loved what they ordered, and 3 were disappointed. The very best was the Scottish Salmon(Really great) and the worst were the Lobster Roll, very dry. Still I would go again
Always excellent food.
A quite place with a nice view and one of the few places open at 2pm, but the burger and fries I had were incredibly mediocre. Lava cake was decent.
Quiet atmosphere. Pleasant surroundings.Lobster roll was best I have had in a long time
Always pleasant atmosphere, and very good food for a good value.
Country Club room. Nice atmosphere. Country Club food
First time there and really enjoyed the experience. Nice atmosphere, very good service and the meal was excellent. We will be back!
Special fish was fantastic. A little lame that they were out of the vodka for one of the cocktails on their list.
Setting is nice, right on the Saugatuck. There is an outdoor area and indoor area; the outdoor section looked nice but was busier so we sat inside for the quiet. It was actually a little too quiet, as it had a deserted feeling. There was a bar with a TV and two people at the bar, but most of the tables were empty (very unusual in Westport on a Saturday night - but now I see why..). The chopped salads were not special but fine and quite large. I had risotto made with squash, apples, sage and parmesan which was okay although the spicing was somewhat odd. A salmon with mango glaze was also a slightly odd taste combination but good, and baked chicken was judged good if a bit dull. One person had pappardelle with vegetables which had absolutely no taste (I tried it - not even salt!). He sent it back to be fixed if possible, but apparently the chef just added some garlic which didn't help much so in the end it went uneaten. They offered a replacement dish but my friend just ate some of everyone else's entrees and passed on the offer. The maitre d' and waiter were apologetic and to compensate made our desserts and coffees free, a nice gesture but the desserts were not that good either. I had a chocolate lava cake that looked like someone had sat on it (I saw others go by and they looked normal) and the "lava" was more like pudding, so maybe we got the dregs because they were free. They said there was a new chef that night but why would they put an unskilled person on Saturday night if that were the case? Or any night, really... In any case, as mentioned above, very disappointing. Limited wine selection too. I had wondered about the restaurant as it's been around for awhile and I had never been there, but no more wondering and I will not go back.
The food portions are incredibly small for the price. and the taste fair. Good, but nothing special especially for the cost. I had a pasta and my friend had risotto, 2 glasses of wine, sorbet and coffee and it was $100.00 . The size of the pasta and rissotto are equal to most restaurant appetizer portions.
It just isn't worth the money. It should taste incredible, but it was average.
What the heck?? I made my reservation. All seemed good until i went there and was told that a private party was going on and i couldn't eat much there, despite my rez. Huh??
The Boathouse was a welcome find - from the great nautical decor and porch seating to the delicious fare and cocktails. The staff was also knowledgable and friendly. We'll definitely be back.
We often forget about this restaurant above the rowing club. I don't know why because every time we go and bring guests they rave about the location ( we sat outside on the porch overlooking the river on a beautiful night ) and the food. Selections are always seasonal and very well prepared. Service is a little slow but we didn't mind since we were catching up with old friends and appreciated the ability to converse. Must go more often and I highly recommend this restaurant.
Decided to go for after work dinner.
Overlooking river very pleasant and dinner matched. Muse evening good view good location
The food was wonderful as usual. It was a warm Fall evening so we sat outside and it was delightful. Service could have been more attentive but it was fine. A very nice experience.
It was a gorgeous day and a pleasure to eat outside at the Boathouse but the food ( lobster rolls) was below average. Our waiter, although friendly and attentive, had the whole deck to administer to so it was slow going. There are too many other restaurants within walking distance with far better food.
Beautiful early Fall warm evening so the outside deck overlooking the river was heavenly. Outside tables are first come first served so we had a drink at the bar while we waited for an outside table to open. We were told 20 minutes and that is just how long it took. Delightful bartender (even though he is an Alabama fan. :-)). Setting is beautiful. Service was a little lacking. Orders were mixed up among the 4 of us a few times. Check was delivered to our table but was never picked up. We had to get up and walk to the hostess podium to actually pay. No one ever came back to our table. Service is usually fine, this was just an off evening.
Very slow service. Kitchen problem. Great views from the terrace. Food satisfactory.
Not a hot spot for young and fabulous, but a beautiful place for a nice dinner with friends or family. Quiet, so you can have a conversation, but not so quiet you feel like anyone is listening. Great good, great drinks, and a spectacular view out to the river. Would definitely go back.
We have had occasion to visit The Boathouse for lunch but not for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of interesting choices on the menu, but the quality of the food and by the excellent service provided by our waiter. We will definitely return.
great views. food was good. service could have been better considering there wasnt a lot of people there they should have been more attentive. would recommend to a friend.
Nice waterfront experience and views from the second floor. Nice lunch spot, food quality ok.
The food was delicious, fresh, creative, well prepared. The staff was very kind and accommodating.
The service was a little slow , it was the middle of the afternoon and there were not too many patrons at the restaurant. they could use ceiling fans outside
Pricey but good food and a great view of the Saugatuck River
We enjoyed an anniversary dinner with a lovely view.
My wife and I visited the Saugatuck Boat House for Friday lunch before going to Compo Beach. We live 25 miles away and it worth CT roadway traffic on a July Friday. We sat outside overlooking the Saugatuck Rive and a rack of sculls ..and their oarsmen. We both had lobster rolls served warm and buttery. My wife started with a seasonal salad and I with fresh oysters. The food was delicious and the waitstaff and proprietors all delightful. Great sunny summer outdoor balcony. The dining room is very attractive and teems with nautical decor. A.Morse
Hostess was lovely and very friendly but the wait staff was inattentive, slow and behaved more like well meaning bus boys than professional waiters. The lobster rolls ( we ordered 3) were all strangely prepared as a warm entree and my experience and therefore expectation was that they would be prepared in the traditional cold lobster salad method. I would have appreciated it if the menu indicated they would be served warm. In addition, I thought the portion of lobster per roll was meager. Fries, crab cakes, omelette and salads were all good.
Beautiful location right on the Saugutuck River. The balcony area is great except for a very load live band in the rowing club. Service lacking polish but a very friendly waiter. Good menus choices and an enjoyable meal except for noise level from the band and the service lacking. Best view
In Westport.
The food was good, but it took well over an hour to get our entrees. Not sure of what the problem was, but we were told 1 1/2 hours after we were seated that our food would be out soon :(
My wife and I took my daughter for her birthday lunch. She's 24 so it wasn't clowns and balloons. It was a casual but delicious lunch. Service was great, food was fresh and phenomenal. They even brought her a cake and sang happy birthday to her. : )
I had been to The Boathouse for lunch recntly and decided to try it with friends for dinner. Hands down the ambiance is terrific and so is the view. Lunch is better value for money with many of the same items on the dinner menu. An omelet with salad and fries was very good however at dinner the lobster bisque was not piping hot and lacked flavor. The lobster roll was very stingy and the bun very was soggy and my fries were not hot. The smallest serving of coleslaw came with. Others at the table ordered a pasta dish and again the accompanying fish topping was very sparse. I would recommend this restaurant for lunch over dinner and you really do feel like you are on a ship, fabulous surrounds.
Beautiful view and really nice inside. Service slow. Food - Ok - nothing creative or super delicious, but not bad either. Risotto tasty but overly salty, pasta not salty at all. Burrata not creamy. Small drink list. Good for views but would not recommend to a foodie.
Excellent views at sunset. Very good service. I will come back.
The food was excellent - the chef didn't try to be too fancy, and simply delivered good, classic dishes prepared well and cooked impeccably. The desserts were also excellent. We took my wife for Mother's Day and the staff was very conscientious about dealing with my children's nut allergies. Everyone had an excellent time and enjoyed an outstanding meal.
All 4 of us liked our meal. The atmosphere is nice even if you sit inside. Nice views of the saugatauck river. Very good service . Will return for the summer deck !
Hard to beat the location and views of the rowing marina. Outdoor seating is great, ambiance great, menu inviting. Disappointed a bit with soft shell crab appetizer. The body of the ss crab itself was tiny less than 2 inches across and the grilled romaine lettuce it seemed a little rushed in the preparation.
