The Boathouse at Kits Beach
We were seated with a fantastic view of the waterfront and watched the sun go down while we dined. Our meals (sesame crusted ahi tuna with mushroom rice and bok choy for her, grilled wild sockeye salmon with potatoes and seasonal vegetables) were good (particularly the sauce around the ahi tuna, which was perfectly cooked). However, the only things that were warm on our plates were the bok choy and potatoes. Large portions were very nice but the timing of the plating was off. Cold rice and slightly overcooked salmon left us with the impression they had been left under the warming tray a bit too long before being served. Still, overall a nice evening out to celebrate our anniversary.
A must do, especially if you’ve got visitors
Good football great location
Delicious food and a waiter that provided great service.
The best food! So fresh and so delicious. We sat by the window looking out at the ocean it was such a wonderful experience. Our server Travis was very funny and knowledgeable. I recommend this place to anyone that wants a great dining experience! We will be returning!
The quality of the food has dropped dramatically over the last 2 years. While the concepts are good, the food was improperly cooked and left us feeling a little disappointed.
The service was exceptional.
Beautiful views, good menu selections and attentive staff!
WE dine here often and we had the worst experience on Mother's Day
We went to the Boathouse at their Kitsilano location for Mother’s Day brunch. We will not be doing that again.
Other than the location, the positives for me were their shrimp cocktail station and maybe their cheese board. And I say maybe because there were about 10 grapes and 2 strawberries in the entire tray.
Though their regular service is lovely from past visits, this buffet style brunch seemed like total chaos.
When we arrived at the front desk, I just got stared at. Not even a hi. I figured the staff were just waiting for me to give my reservation info, but that seemed odd for people who are there solely to “greet and seat” guests.
For starters, the trays used to hold the food had full on lids. Not the retractable kind you’d expect. Now if they had been enough table space to set aside this lid, that would’ve been ok. However everything was so crammed it was literally a choice between your plate on one hand, or holding the lid and serving yourself. What ended up happening was people placing lids on top of other food trays.
Back to the food tray disaster, no labeling of any kind was in place. For me it was only annoying as I’d have to lid every single huge lid to figure out what was underneath. But I expect people with any sort of allergy or intolerance would not immediately know the contents.
The dessert table has pretty dry carrot cake, and an assortment of small bars (pecan bar I believe) and cheesecake. Those were ok. What threw me off was that there were gummies in a 3 tier dessert stand. Gummy worms, gummy strips, gummy raspberries. It may be my personal preference, but I don’t consider gummies part of a “brunch”. It made the caliber of the dessert drop for me.
There was also a crepe and omelette station, also not labeled. People asked me when I had gotten my little crepe. The crepe itself, was underwhelming. It was small and dry enough that it was crunchy. I was just so disappointed by this point I tried to enjoy it as much as I could.
It’s fine but buffet lunch for mother’s day was chaotic and loud.
I think the food was just passable - bit disappointing for a mothers day brunch. the roast beef and pork were in same container so if you did not eat pork you couldnt eat beef. limited choices for adults. View was gorgeous but you can get the view just by walking or sitting on beach
Been here for Santa’s Breakfast and Mother’s Day. Both events were great, kid friendly, and not too busy with seating times. Organized well and good service. Michael, our server was great. Buffet had a great selection.
Stunning setting but disappointing food. Our Caesar salad was very bland, barely more than a bowl of lettuce. My ahi tuna was ok, not exceptional but acceptable but the rice accompanying it looked and tasted as though it had been scraped from the bottom of the pan. My partners pasta was tasty but his ice cream pie looked as though it had been in the freezer too long and was tasteless. My creme brûlée has a nice crust but the cream was also very disappointing. Such a shame to have such a beautiful place with mediocre food.
Our server Steph was exceptional!
Went for lunch and was sat near the windows overlooking the beach. Was a great view from the table though you do get a bit of a breeze from the gaps in the windows and become a bit chilly in cooler days - this is not a reflection on the restaurant, just heads up.
The food was all good, well prepared and fresh. There was two of us and we ordered two entree sized salads, a fish n’ chips and the fish tacos - also a couple glasses of wine. Good sized portions for the price that is charged. The fish tacos could have used a bit more sauce as they were a little dry, but some hot sauce helped. The fish n’ chips was fairly standard, but well prepared. The salads were both good and well dressed with fresh greens and toppings.
The service was lacking though. It wasn’t very busy, yet our server was not that attentive. There was a lot of waiting for the server and we were never checked on to see if everything was okay. Had to flag down a hostess to bring us extra sauce. Server never came back until he brought the bill.
The noise level in the restaurant was very loud despite there were only few patrons in tg e restaurant. It was very difficult for me to understand what my companions were discussing. While the food, service andccambisnddeccwere perfect, I would not go there if I needvvto discuss something important over dinner. I wish they could do something with the noise.
Sadly we have had better experiences at the Boathouse in the past. This time both orders of halibut at our table were so over cooked the halibut was very dry. In fairness the server offered a replacement but one guest’s serving was already consumed by the time he asked about our food. So he brought mango salsa for the remaining one. The third order was ahi tuna which reportedly was good. Overall the high noise level of other diners was too much for us to consider returning in any case.
We always have a very good experience at The Boathouse.
Location and view are spectacular. The food is good but when the restaurant fills up it is quite noisy
We had a lovely time! A window seat overlooking the beach, a charming server, an excellent cocktail and great food!!!
Can’t beat the amazing view and sunset from this restaurant
Great ambience.,, it’s been couple of years since the last time i had dinner with my friends. This time we sad by the window. Beautiful view. their service is still remarkable. Our server was attentive, friendly. Food is good - both appetizer and entree. Their house red wine is also not bad- good price on happy hour. I would definitely come back.
Our waiter Sebastian did a fantastic job. Extremely pleasant, always checked in on the table at the most appropriate time - was very helpful in the menu selections. Along with the atmosphere and the view, Sebastian made it a much more enjoyable evening. Thank you Sebastian!
We had an amazing dinner at The Boathouse Kits. Great atmosphere and our server was incredible - I’m upset that I am forgetting her name as she was wonderful & deserves a shout out!
The view there was spectacular, the dishes we got were wonderful and overall, we can say it’s easily one of our new favourite spots!
First time at this Boathouse. It was nice, but after going to the White Rock location, it's definitely a lot different on the inside. Or service was excellent, the food was decent all around, but a little bit different than what we expected. We were there for a 21st birthday, the waitress did something special for my daughter, I feel like she might have gotten in a little bit of trouble doing it. Otherwise a decent experience, with going there.
No excuse for a tough steak at a steak house. They did comp it. Waited a long time to be greeted in a half full room. Basically not on their game. Great view though
Hi. We enjoyed the visit. The food was good, the service was very good!
(I wish they had more fish dishes: red snapper, other varieties.)
The noise level: unfortunately, it's noisy as in loud, (not energetic)
Great lunch at The Boathouse Kits Beach. The Crab Canelloni was packed with flvour.
Bad service. Great food!
It was my mother’s 94th birthday which was shared at the time of reservations but there was nothing special noted such as acknowledging this or offering her cake etc. Server had to be asked repeatedly for things. Arrived to watch the sun set which was a great view.
Beautiful view of ocean and western sky. Great for a walk on the beach before or after.
Large open room that is popular, especially on Saturday night. No noise buffering makes it a good choice for a loud night out with friends.
First service was a thirty minute wait from when we were seated. Washrooms needed attention.
Menu offerings had a good range of options. Sesame crusted ahi tuna was good.
Well - the boathouse on English Bay (that is now closed) felt more like a special dinner place. The Kits location feels more like a PUB style experinece. This was our first time at the Kits location and I don't think we will go back.
Oyster presentation was POOR. 36.99 for 12 oysters is a premium price and Blue Water Cafe does such a better job (English bay boathouse did better as well).
Service was average - I think we were in the bar/lounge section and my wine glass was empty half of the time. View was awesome and food was just ok this time. For a $216 bill, I would expect more. And since we are a member of the Club Card - I expected better seating service and location. (We were 30 minutes early and were told they can't seat us till our time). I put on the reservation With open table that we were on the Landrycard program.
SO.....KITS location is great, when busy it's noisy and staff are rushing around so service is weak. Food was average and we were not even given options for sides with our lobster (or options instead of rice). English bay staff really provided a relaxing experince.
So go to This location for a sunset dinner but be ready for 5 star restaurant prices - with pub style ambiance.
Our guests from Toronto enjoyed a wonderful meal and a great atmosphere at the Boathouse.
We had a reservation for 7 and were seating at a table near the window to celebrate my Dad's 70th birthday. Although to restaurant was a bit to noisy and loud, the food was amazing and the waiter was lovely. They also gave us a treat for my Dad's birthday which was a pleasant surprise.
Beautiful day with outstanding views, especially nice for out-of-towners! Food was great and service was exceptional!
Our server, was attentive and professional. The Happy Hour menu was a bit limited as practically everything but the Caesar salad & sliders were deep fried.
Overall, a nice place to spend the early afternoon.
Great food, great service and outstanding views! We'll come back soon.
Food was cold when it arrived waiter wasn’t on the ball at all however very friendly but seemed to be too busy trying to sell VIP cards at other tables forgetting tables requests etc...
All and all quite disappointing for the price point could have went to white spot and paid $60 instead of $160 I felt robbed leaving the boathouse
Bergers were burnt on the outside, raw on inside, poor frozen grilled burger. None of my two teens could eat it. Place has very few gluten free options. When you hear that even risotto is made with flour you know nothing is fancy about this food. Fish and chips was good. Setting is fabulous but food quality is something to be desired.
Wonderful food, great service, beautiful view. Some sun in one's eyes at sunset can be slightly bothersome.
