The Boathouse at Kits Beach Ratings and Reviews
Great location on Kits Beach. Attractive west coast decor, pleasant service, lots of menu options, especially seafood. A good choice for brunch, lunch, drinks or dinner with a view. Ask for a window table when reserving. No guarantee, but usually works out.
The food was still "good"but not great,I feel it has slipped down a notch or two.My 12oz NY steak was a little tough and flavourless and the crab dip appy was mediocre. My wife really enjoyed the stuffed prawns but I have had better experiences at this particular restaurant.Maybe it was just an off night, but I was underwhelmed this time.
IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DONT FIX IT My elderly mother (repeat customer) ordered the crab cake benny. Well suprise surprise, the format has changed. Long story short, my vote is to go back to the original format. Two small crab cakes with a poached egg on top------BETTER.
On a happy note I (her son) ordered a shrimp & crab omelet----delicious & perfectly prepared; not too dry & not too wet.
The food was great. The view was beautiful. Reservations where simple to make online. But the service as not good. The server didn't want to "interrupt" our conversation so it took him forever to come over and take our order. And as soon as there was the slightest indication that we hadn't decided on which wine to order he left and then we had to call him back after waiting too long again to take our order. He didn't remove our dirty appetizer plates. He poured the first glass of wine but didn't come back when our glasses were nearly empty. He never asked us how the food was. Once we were finished our dinner he literally threw the dessert menus on the table in front of each of us and walked away with out a word. He didn't come back to take our dessert order, we had to call him over again. And then when he came with our cappuccinos he just put them on the corner of the table and walked away. I've been to the English Bay location and received superb service. This was disappointing to say the least.
I have been to the Boathouse many times, but was extremely disappointed this visit. The noise level was like a rock concert. Could not have a conversation. The service was dreadful. Kept getting the excuse “We’re busy”. Tables with large groups were getting all the attention. My guest was from Iowa and wanted to experience the ambience of the Boathouse. It was awful. It was more like a noisy pub or sports bar, with bad service. I won’t go back.
This was my second trip to the Boathouse Kitsilano in two months. Our party included a regular patron of other Boathouse locations. Both experiences were disappointingly similar with minor variation in detail.
On the plus side, the view is amazing and the staff are friendly in the most part which almost make up for the inattentive service and mediocre food.
The mixed seafood grill was OK but uninspired - a small salmon filet and a skewer with two large prawns and one small scallop. Unfortunately both orders of the grill arrived tepid at best. One of our party ordered mussels which he rated very tasty. A final plate of planked salmon was judged to be good by the recipient.
The brownie desert was very good and a highlight, however the crème brûlé was disappointing (little carmellized sugar topping, mediocre custard).
Although the restaurant was only half full with lots of staff on duty. Our server was inattentive for much of the meal (no offer of ground pepper for instance) and preferred to chat with the other staff.
If you go, savour the view to the max. The rest of your experience may not be up to the same standard.
Food is spectacular but the drinks were bad. I think the bar staff were not very well trained on this particular occasion, that said, we were given new ones and our waiter was very accommodating.
I've eaten here many times and the fish is always beautifully cooked. View is pretty special too.
The view was lovely, though it was a hot day so quite unbearable at our window seat. The food was overpriced and no one at our table really enjoyed the food. We thought the bread tasted freezer burnt. Service was decent but our waiter looked like he'd been in a fight with a bandaged hand and black mark under his eye. Overall a disappointing experience.
We enjoyed a very nice birthday dinner at The Boathouse. It is a lively crowd, but not too loud. The food was excellent - lots of salmon choices. Our nine-year old was very happy with her meal as well. The service was outstanding and we appreciated the extra attention given to us by our server.
As always, consistently fantastic food, great wine list, good happy hour (throughout restaurant, not only bar), one of the best value for dollar in the city, service friendly and well-meaning but seem to be rotating work visa students with little training (though very open to suggestions and requests, e.g. to remove 1st course dishes) breathtaking view (bring all your outvof town visitors here!), a 'glad to live in Vancouver' kind of place!
