The server and kitchen staff easily accommodated a special request for a substitution on the accompaniments to the main entrée.
Oysters were delicious! Chowder was delicious! Wine was delicious! The waiter never interrupted the conversation- outstanding!
1. We asked for a window seat but were shown to another table. The problem is that our request wasn’t even acknowledged and we weren’t told a window seat wasn’t available nor were we given the option to go to the lounge and wait for a window seat, etc.
2. The biggest problem was with the gluten free choices. There was nothing in the menu marked as gluten free. While our waiter was very nice and attentive, he couldn’t tell us with any surety or confidence what was gluten free and what wasn’t. There was a lot of “this might be” or “I think this is”, etc. It was very risky for the person with us who has a significant allergy.
3. While this is a seafood restaurant with an excellent seafood menu, it would be nice to have a couple of more non seafood selections for those in a party who don’t eat seafood.
4. The restaurant is very noisy and we were there early when it was only about a third full.
Reserved for a Friday night @ 7 in time for drinks before the sunset, followed by dinner. Way too noisy, idiotic masses milling around the host's podium, including a child in his power wheels parked right in the middle of the throng. Immediately regretted wearing semi-formal as ballcaps and polyester jackets seemed to be an acceptable evening attire as the oblivious happily munched on their snapworthy colourful meals for their facebook followers to envy. This prime piece of Vancouver real estate could have been so much more, but has instead been wasted by yet another chain establishment that has fallen off by catering to the easily pleased. It must be said that the staff are polite, but the customers leave a lot to be desired, I recommend you don't be one unless you're coming in after drinking on the beach all day with your idiot floozy friends on the selfie parade.
Service was a little slow as they only had 2 servers on and we were a party of 8. The view was outstanding and it was very easy to talk to the whole table. All in all though was a very good experience and I would recommend this restaurant to my friends
You pay for the view, which is spectacular. Their brunch food is mediocre at best and pales in comparison for price point to many other restaurants in Kits. They are kid friendly with menu and service, which is a plus.
Unfortunately for a place that services fish, both our Ahi Tuna and wild sockeye salmon were over cooked and not very good. We could over hear the people beside us who were also disappointed with their food. Their crab dish had no crab.
We were offered desert, declined, for over cooked fish.
We reserved online and our table was ready when we arrived. Great view, very friendly and helpful staff, terrific wait person, excellent fare. Lots of parking.
We were given a great table by the view window and attended to with just the right amount of service throughout the evening. Service was friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. We ordered a number of dishes to share and all were superb and presented well. It was a top notch casual dining experience.
it was all pretty good with the exception of the parking meters. terrible .. we had to attempt it about four times, with cash and cards. made us a bit late for the reservation time. not very user friendly.
I've been to the Kitsilano Boathouse restaurant numerous times since moving to Vancouver 3 years ago. It is consistent in its quality of food and service. I never feel rushed and if you are lucky, you can get a seat by the window to watch the sun set on the water. With excellent wine choices and terrific cocktails, they offer a variety of starter or shared plates (my favourite is the coconut shrimp with mango salsa) that include grilled fish with your choice of accompaniment or one of their signature dishes (hello, coconut cod!). I've yet to have a bad meal or terrible service which is why I will always recommend the Kitsilano Boathouse.
Service, atmosphere, view & food was perfect for a birthday celebration. The only negative aspect of our Sunday brunch was that we had a table of 6 at the window with a heat lamp directly overtop and it was too hot. It caused our dessert icing to melt and we had to take off layers of clothing ... we were sweating during the meal. We asked the server to turn it off which happened for a few minutes and then again turned on. Just too uncomfortable to enjoy our total dining experience. I hope there is something that can be done to remedy this situation. Also, the table that was joined to the existing table of 4 was not stable and we needed to balance the base with a napkin. Thank you, in advance.
Food and Service were okay, window seating request was granted but at the windows it was really cold. But if warm/sunny a great place for seafood and views!
Servers were excellent
My wife and I went for dinner there recently for Valentine’s dinner on the Saturday following actual Valentine’s. We were both looking forward to King crab and were sadly disappointed. Not only was the crab served cold but unlike previous experiences, the crab was not precut for ease of enjoying. Despite this, we persevered and did our best to ignore the sharp shell digging into our fingers. The butter that was served with our bread, had fridge-like flavor and even though we sent it back, the next one was exactly the same just as the server predicted it would be. The experience was unfortunate as it reminded us that we could create a better experience in the comfort of our own home. That is likely what we will do next Valentine’s. Too bad because in the past, we have have had good experiences.
Did the Valentine's Day set menu. Was a lovely ambience and we were lucky to get the corner round table. Service from our server was impeccable. Food was good but nothing impressive. Cheers, DeadFoodiesSociety.
The set Valentines Day menu was awesome! Service was friendly and on point! Had an amazing view of the sunset! Made for a great date night! Would recommend!
Good experience. Place clean, friendly and beautiful.
My reservation was ok when I arrived. Food delicious, but few options.
Visited during the extension period for the 2018 Dine Out Vancouver menu in mid-February 2018. Great window seat with a superb view of Kits Beach and the sunset. It was chilly outside, but overhead heaters kept the temperature comfortable. Our server was cheerful and efficient. Food was delicious, perfect portion sizes. Mocha ice cream cake dessert looked like it would be too big, but it was surprisingly light and a nice way to end the evening. Reliable restaurant with a scenic Wow! factor to impress your out-of-town guests.
The heating is not working well enough, there should be a better temperature control, when the heat came on it was very overwhelming when we were there.
Happily got a reservation with a window seat here relatively last-minute and was pleasantly surprised when Dine Out Vancouver menu had been extended. Had a great steak dinner with salad and scrumptious crème brûlé for $30. Perfectly sized portions. Great service and fireplace was a nice touch. Parking was not that expensive but would have been nice to have it comped.
We have been here before in the summer and with the sunset it felt a lot more cozy but in the winter the ambience was not very cozy and it was loud over crowded and the food had no flavour! I love the boat house usually but this was definitely worst experience
This was our first time dining at the Boathouse/Kits Beach. The location is gorgeous - right on the beach so you could see the lights of the city and the ships even through the Vancouver rain, and since it's at the beach there is an abundance of parking (although we were there in February). The food was hot, tasty and beautifully presented and the kitchen easily accommodate my gluten allergy (I had the sablefish with a butter/lemon sauce substitute for the miso glaze). What differentiated our experience, though, was the excellent service. We will definitely be back!
Great meal during Dine Out Vancouver and really attentive service. Nice warm bread to start and plenty of food for the 3 course meal.
i haven't been to the boathouse in quite awhile..but came for the dine-out..we had a table by the window which added to our pleasure..it was my friends birthday so it was a nice get together..our server was very attentive and helpful with menu questions..the food was excellent..would definitely come back to have dinner or lunch again
Over all was good. I prepare downtown location to compare with this location. This place is more family oriented, lots of kids. It is not quite so if you are looking for romantic and quite place go to downtown. Food is good. If you have large family, this place set up is way better than downtown.
Good quality, but not as flavourful as I would have liked, especially for the prices. Good service and ambiance.
Lovely location, but no parking/access for disabled
Good atmosphere, server was very friendly. I was not expecting top notch quality because it's during the dineout festival. But food was decent and healthy options are available, overall it was great value and an amazing view even on a rainy day. My only critique is that the creme brulee topping was way too thick (almost 1 mm???), I could not break it with my spoon in one go, and a bit chewy!? Because the sugar was too thick, it retained a lot of heat (over-torched?), making the custard a bit too runny.
Amazing, got the steak in the dineout and was delish, my boyfriend got fish and chips great size portion and equally tasty. The mocha ice cream cake was fab too.
Had a enjoyable dinner we ordered ribs and I ordered one lobster tail (small) and we were charged 39.95 less a $20.00 promo so for a very small lobster tail it was $19.95. Overpriced. Our friend had the eat out Vancouver menu, the fish and chips and there was a lot of food there. It looked good. Our ribs were very good and I got extra sauce as I like a lot.
Great food and service. Would have liked it if our server had asked us if we’d like coffee or tea with our dessert but otherwise no complaints.
We were meeting family from out of town. Such a great place to show off the city! Had a window table which was lovely.
Very noisy; we could hardly hear each other - although it's a large restaurant, the way the acoustics are, it made for a noisy and less comfortable dining experience. Also the dinner of steak was chewy (not tender).
Server was extremely excellent. The disappointment was after we left. My son only ate most of the fries, out of his 2 slider burger meal. We asked for all the food for my son and newphew to be packed up. Was very disappointed to see only one slider in the box. He hadn't even had one bite of meat. There should have been 2 sliders in the box as well as the couple of fries. Haven't spoken to my sister yet hope half of her sons food wasn't missing. A complete waste of food to throw one whole untouched burger in the garbage? Why? Made me start thinking that perhaps it was accidentally thrown in the garbage and were only able to salvage one out of the garbage. I was completely grossed out assuring myself thats what happened So there was no way I was feeding my son a burger from the garbage so I had no choice but to throw it out. And had to go out of my way to go pick him up McDonald's as I had not made him dinner, knowing he had 2 full sliders to eat.😕
Do not go if you have a big party (when tips are a mandatory 15%). Our server (Lauren) made no effort to ensure everything was right during our 2 hours dinning time. She's getting 15% tip no matter what so I guess there is no need to provide any good service.
Couple of things that we did not like:
- She missed some of our appetizer and did not even realize until we let her know after we finished our appetizers. She made no apologies for this mistake at all.
- This was during dine out period, and 4 of us at the table ordered the $40 menu (CAB steak with crab topping) and what we got was the regular steak from the $30 menu instead. We were confused at first and wanted to ask our server (lauren), and obviously she's no where to be found. She never came back to ask how our food was. I had to flag her down at the end and then she realized we got the wrong meal. She ended up only giving us the crab topping. I am pretty sure we got the '$30 steak' instead of the '$40 CAB steak with crab toppings'. Once again, she made no apologies for this mistake at all.
- When we finished dessert, I asked for the bill cause my mom was in a rush to get to work after dinner. Lauren once again acknowledges she'll get me the bill, but decided to chat with her colleagues for 10mins before she goes and print the bill from the machine. During this 10mins, she did nothing except chatting with her colleagues. I really wanted to pay less tips if I have the options because I do not feel Lauren did anything during our dinner.
Overall, it was not a good experience and I do not intend to go back anytime soon.
Great dine out meal for a very reasonable price. Already recommended it to a friend who will be dining there with his friends this Saturday.
We were a group of five, which included out-of-town family. Everyone ordered different items, ranging from vegan to fish or steak and every meal was excellent in all ways. The service was impeccable; the view amazing; and the overall ambiance was perfect for visiting.
We had great service and the server was very friendly. Food order was taken quickly and our food arrived piping hot and was delicious. Beautiful setting and ambience gave us a great dining experience.
Our waitress was awful. She never asked us if we wanted a second drink, all of the drinks were empty when dinner was served and remained empty until desert when she took away the plates - and even then we had to ask for another drink while she walked away. Had the dine out menu, barely any flavour. Disappointed.
