But just a little noisy - one loud table can really make it difficult.
Food was riducoulusly good and inventive. My wife had the lasagna with English peas which was heavenly.
We went there for our anniversary dinner and could not have been more pleased.
We dine each Christmas Stroll luncheon at The Boarding House- an insane weekend based upon the crowds! Service is always fabulous, food well prepared, presented and very tasty. Great wine list. Would recommend The Boarding House to anyone visiting Nantucket!
Was there for Stroll weekend. Would have been a nice touch if was I told that there was a brunch menu and not the regular menu. Although they were accommodating, I was looking forward to their regular menu.
Five of six of us had a brown butter lobster tail. It was very good but only two of us were served the advertised "1 1/2 tails"; the rest of us got just one full tail. The starter special, cheese in puff pastry, was heavily promoted by the waitperson so my husband and I ordered it. It left a lot to be desired - the pastry was soggy. The sixth person had gnocchi, which was excellent. Lively, festive atmosphere. Quite good service but I balked when the server, when asked if there were any specials we should know about, responded with "the chef's really excited about ...". Like Jack Webb used to say in the TV series Dragnet, "Just the facts, ma'am".
always a pleasure to dine here. staff is always warm and welcoming. you feel like family. food is fantastic!
Our table in the corner (lower level) was very romantic and comfortable with low lighting and leather cushions. The best part of my meal was the appetizer of tomato bisque and grilled cheese bites. The fries add-on was also very good. I wouldn't order the filet mignon again only because it wasn't very special or memorable. Overall it was a nice place for dinner with good atmosphere.
The boarding house was a perfect finale to our Nantucket weekend. My husband and I decided to sample many apps and items, rather than doing entrees. Everything was delicious and the timing of our course style meal was perfect. Our server was attentive, but no overbearing. The bourbon drinks were also delicious and unique. I highly recommend this restaurant for a wonderful dinner experience.
Food was very uneven. My husband's salmon tartar was great and so was the kale Cesar salad. But my filet mignon was tasteless. There was no bread on the table so you had to order cornbread. It came in a hot skillet, nice touch, but was drowning in overly sweet burton butter.mmthe fried chicken was also good -- I was sorry that I didn't order it.
Had a lovely meal here with wonderful service. The cornbread with maple butter is not to be missed! The interior is very charming and it was a lovely spot on a chilly fall night. The pumpkin bourbon cocktails were pretty awesome as well!
One of the best dinners I have ever enjoyed, and my date described the food as heavenly. We both agreed that the meal topped others we have had at highly rated restaurants. The swordfish and crusted filet were both impeccably prepared, wonderfully fresh and flavorful.
Sunday supper was simply lovely..... every dish was delicious. Friendly staff and service was excellent. A wonderful night and can't wait to get back to the Boarding House.
Great table, attentive service, delicious appetizers and entrees
The outdoor dining is nice and more bistro casual but the inside dining room is cozy and lovely. Our server was great along with all the service from the wait staff. I had the halibut which was the best I have ever eaten. Fresh fish, delicious sauce and a generous portion. For added decadence, try the hush puppy appetizer.
The raynors have created an extraordinary Nantucket landmark here with consistently excellent creative food and extremely personable service. We often eT there two nights in a row just to taste all the menu items.
Always make sure to hit up the Boarding House at least once while you're on Nantucket - it's always worth the trip.
everything was as close to perfect as you can get for our meal here. we're brooklyn foodie-types and not easy to please but between the fresh raw bar, lobster on brioche, and outstanding use of local produce it met the standard and then some. staff was friendly and accommodating to children with a simple but elegant offering for the little people. wine and cocktails also excellent, we'll be back!
Been coming multiple times each summer for 10+ years. It has been consistently excellent. Great service. Exquisite food -- enhanced by local produce. A winner!
Meal was great, wine was excellent - love this place
I never like eating a high end meal underground, regardless of how nice an ambience they try to make it. Maybe it's from my scary experience from the original version of "The Time Machine".
Food was very good as was the service.
Having a home on Nantucket for the last 13 yrs I eat about everywhere. Boarding House is consistent, the menu has enough variety and fun plays on standard items to be fun and my service was excellent. I would certainly recomend it as a lovely place to grab a outside or inside bite. The Brunch is quite good too.
Fabulous on every level!!! Dinner was delicious!!!!
The food and service were very good, but the wine list was extremely overpriced. Many of the wines on their list are cheaper in other establishments. Even mediocre wines were close to $100/bottle. It seemed that the point of the restaurant was the expense and as such I did not enjoy the ambiance in the main seating area or the bar. Perhaps not the owner or the chefs fault, just the type of crowd that they attract at the moment. Lola41 was much more fun with a better wine list, while other restaurants in Nantucket are much more romantic.
Food was delicious. Bartender was so friendly and helpful. However, service was unbelievably atrocious. Sat us 30 mins past our 830pm reservation. Put us at a distant table off the dining room, next to the kitchen door. When we asked to switch, they would not seat us at one of the two open/empty tables for 2 in the back- they said they were reserved. Instead, they sat us at a table for 4. We did not know who our server was the whole night. The only way we could order/get assistance was to ask anyone we could grab walking by for help, since we were completely neglected the entire evening. A shame because the food was so lovely.
We had the tomato/caprese salad, which was fresh, perfectly seasoned and delicious. Our overall experience was good. Food was between okay and quite delicious, while the service was uniformly friendly.
We had a party of six with is and sat downstairs. Not a great location and very noisy.
Food was ok, nothing memorable. The menu was good, but not distinguished. The servings were on the smaller side, so if you are hungry you will spend at least $20 for an appetizer, $35 for an entree and still feel very hungry.
Service was good and attentive.
Been wanting to eat here for a long time and just never got around to it. 5 stars all around. Had a wonderful evening!
A little loud with a table of children next to us on the banquet, but it's nantucket and to be expected as are the prices. Much inline with others on the island, all a bit expensive but it is an island.
I especially love all the amazing wicker baskets the women carry. Drink up boarding house,, we had a blast!
Pearl remains our favorite but the Boarding House gave its sister restaurant a great run. The decor is unique with a curved copper like interior that is intimate. I had the tuna tartar and the octopus special while my wife had the corn soup and lobster risotto. The food was fabulous from a presentation, texture ans taste perspective. My wife thought the souo was the best she ever had. Food portions are modest which we like. We highly recommend.
We've been visiting Nantucket for over seven years and gone to many delectable restaurants all over the island but somehow missing The Boarding House. Well,I am happy to say, we have a new restaurant to add to our yearly rotation! We dined on crispy and sweet hush puppies and golden and crunchy zucchini flowers for appetizers. Both were outstanding! For entrees we ate succulent slices of strip steak surrounded by a tasty panzanella salad and perfectly prepared fried chicken with tender string beans. My only suggestions to our delicious meal would be to lose the potato salad that accompanied the fried chicken and to have a few more choices of dessert such as the strawberry rhubarb cobbler or the southern buttermilk pie that are on the website.
Really enjoyed our dinner there. Oysters outstanding, steak with panzella salad fabulous, lobster risotto deluxe and you can't beat that cornbread!!!
All in all, we had an excellent dinner - halibut and lobster tail with risotto but food portions are very much on the stingy side
Review title says it all. Menu changes with the seasons and is always spot on. Good variety - sea and land - great drinks and service and a prime example of farm to table executed flawlessly. Come to Nantucket once a year and never miss Boarding House and sister restaurant The Pearl.
Great location. Awesome brunch menu. A must if visiting Nantucket!
The food was delightful without being over the top. Understandable but unique. Always one of our favorites
Love how menu changes to fit the season and freshest ingredients. I always have something different and it is always great. Probably my favorite restaurant on Nantucket.
We were celebrating a special wedding anniversary and our dinner was extra special. The food was very very fresh, absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The service was superb. The staff went above and beyond to make our special evening a memory to cherish. We plan to return to Nantucket for the opportunity to return to the Boarding House, it was that good!
I was attracted to the decor with copper-colored ceilings and walls, painted medallions on the part of the ceiling over my table, curved architectural touches, etc. Tables were close enough together for the exchange of greetings and there seemed to be a congenial atmosphere. I was there during the Nantucket Wine Festival and the couple to my right were a winery owner/winemaker pair from Sonoma County. Unfortunately, I had booked an early dinner following a cheese and wine tasting, so my appetite was not up to par. I skipped both appetizer and dessert and only ate about half of the excellent trout entree. Service was slightly formal. The next afternoon I saw a crowd enjoying beverages on the porch which looked very inviting.
The lobster roll was delicious but contained about 3 teaspoons of lobster salad. The baby kale caesar was outstanding and the burger was top notch. Very attentive service. Love the glazed vaulted ceiling.
