Been here several times and each time the food cannot be beaten. Phenomenal chef!!!
Very nice would definitely dine again.. Very friendly staff.. Unique dinner experience
We have eaten here many times and it has always been a delicious meal. We keep coming back. I always feels special when we eat there.
What an exceptional dining experience! Everything was outstanding from the ambiance, to the food, to the service (Alex is the best!) - we were there for 2.5 hours and could have stayed longer and just kept eating! :) The seasonal menu was extraordinary and everything is made from scratch. I also really appreciated the BYOB aspect, so we could put a little more of our $ towards enjoying dessert, which we absolutely did.
Exceptional dinner with a small group of friends. First course: mussels were unusually prepared but very tasty. Steak tartare and pear salad were also very good. Second course: short ribs were excellent, as were the scallops. However, the best dish was the teres major - a lean cut of steak seared and cooked perfectly. For dessert, the soufflé and pecan whiskey tart were both fantastic.
The owner was very gracious and provided a tour of the inn. It's likely we'll stay there this summer. A little pricey - about $160 per couple, including tip - but most foodies will find it well worth it.
Absolutely fantastic. My girlfriend and I have eaten there several times both with groups and alone and the food as well as the service has always been exceptionally fantastic. This review however if particularly for their new years eve dinner. A 5 course meal that would leave anyone speechless. Per usual the food was unique, flavorful, and exquisite, but the service was almost better. Between the owner taking the time to stop by our table and welcome us and speak with us, and our waitress who was not only extremely knowledgeable but truly passionate the service was simply perfect. The evening there surpassed all expectations even though they were already very high from having eating there before.
This restaurant is so friendly as soon as you walk in the door that you almost feel like you are walking into a friend's house. The place is like taking a walk back in time at a beautiful Victorian house. Food is 5 star and our service that night was every bit as good. Bring some great wine to enjoy with some great food.
Vacation special dinner.
We were a party of 4, each ordering different meals and everyone was very happy with their choices (fish / chicken / steak). The service was very friendly. Be advised that it does take a bit longer between courses, but that gave us time to catch up. The noise level was moderate, which made conversation easy.
It is BYO. The staff are happy to uncork the wine, and they do provide table-side chillers if needed.
A very good experience - we will definitely go back.
My husband and I were in Cape May for a post Christmas get away and found The Blue Rose Restaurant online....the bartender at hotel where we were staying said it was a great restaurant and she was right! The service was excellent, we were not rushed at all and the food was excellent! They should mention on their website that they are a BYOB restaurant. That would be my only complaint!
Very disappointing service. We came to Cape May to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday right after Christmas. We chose the Blue Rose for dinner. I made a reservation on Open Table indicating it was a birthday celebration. I also called twice confirming same, once at the time I made the reservation and again just before we left for Cape May. When we arrived the waitress greeted my boyfriend with a Happy Birthday and then completely forgot us for the rest of the meal. First, she never brought bread to the table, which is a signature of the restaurant. We had to ask for bread in order to get some. We waited so long for the bread it was served with the appetizer. Then my boyfriend’s entree, Arctic Char, was not cooked to his liking and the waitress never returned so she never realized he didn’t eat it. We ordered dessert and they forgot his birthday. Completely. I grabbed the waitress as she walked by, because once again she failed to check on us, and I whispered to her that she forgot his birthday. She said she would bring something with a candle. SHE LITERALLY FORGOT AGAIN. SHE DID NOTHING. I waited and NOTHING happened. I told the host and he said they the waitress was training. Yet, after I told the host they STILL didn’t acknowledge his birthday.
The waitress was nervous. She misspoke and had trouble reciting the specials. She asked if we questions about the menu before we had a chance to read the menu. She forgot why she was telling us about dessert at the beginning of the meal.
The entire experience was disappointing. We have enjoyed this restaurant in the past, but we will not be back for a special occasion, EVER. We took a trip to Cape May for a birthday celebration separate and apart from Christmas and the Blue Rose forgot the birthday boy.
Christmas Eve Price Fixed was wonderful. I especially loved that they made substitutions for my dairy free gluten free restrictive diet.
We were there on Christmas Eve. Could have been a little more festively decorated.
Michael our server was exceptional. A very enjoyable night.
Spectacular dinner from start to finish!
Very good date night venue. My wife and I had a night out without the children. Quiet place right in the middle of downtown Cape May during the Christmas season. It happened to be snowing also while we were there, so it was an awesome experience walking after dinner while the snow fell.
Just fabulous food in a creative presentation. A gastronomic delight!
Our new favorite place in Cape May! Exceptional Food, wonderful flavor combinations, and always consistent! Wonderful wait staff, excellent service, lovely atmosphere. Can't wait to come back!
Our new favorite fine dining spot in Cape May. The chef is extremely creative, yet not over the top. Fresh ingredients (including some grown on premise!).
BYOB means it is a great value for a top quality meal that you would pay 2-3 times as much for in a liquor licensed restaurant in a big city.
Server was extremely knowledgeable and it was apparent that she LOVED fine food (Destiny)
Everyone who worked there was friendly and helpful.
Old Victorian house with a top notch restoration.
Do not just consider going, go today.
OMG was dinner good. Every dish was a winner, with very creative combinations. Short ribs were 5 star! As was the chicken. Having eaten in almost all of the upper end restaurants in Cape May, I cannot believe I never got to this place before. On my must go to list now.
This was our second visit and the menu has changed. My husband enjoyed the 5 course vegetarian tasting menu. He was thrilled with the presentation, spices and variety. I enjoyed their special duel beef entree and the chocolate soufflé is to die for. The service is impeccable and BYOB is always appreciated.
My husband and I had a lovely dinner at The Blue Rose last Sunday evening. The delicious food and attentive service make this our number one choice when visiting Cape May. I especially appreciate the restaurant’s sensitivity for patrons with dietary concerns. I even received a phone call the day of our reservation to discuss various options related to my dietary restrictions! We highly recommend The Blue Rose.
Awesome meal! Beautiful Inn, everything was amazing!
We had excellent meals at The Blue Rose! The food is truly exceptional. The steak dinner had a cocoa & coffee crust that was outstanding! The short ribs were flavorful and almost “sticky”....awesome! The truffle mushroom risotto is deep and flavorful. A bit expensive but worth it because the food is above the norm.
This restaurant is located in a Victorian Bed and breakfast. We were seated in a lovely old sunroom surrounded by windows. Our servers were attentive and knowledgeable. We were informed that all ingredients were locally sourced. I started with a scrumptious pear salad and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the parsnip bisque. Next I had the Chicken Roulade which was accompanied by an incredible vegetable ragout. My husband had the Pork Pappardelle which was rich and flavorful. Our meals were not only delicious but beautifully presented and full of surprising ingredients and complex flavors. Unfortunately we were not able sample the dessert menu but will definitely be returning in the near future.
Although the food was very well prepared both my wife and I found that the selection of flavors the chief choose to marry together were at times off putting. The Duck Confit Ravioli was tasty, but mixing the beet reduction with the brown butter was not successful. The Cod fillet was cooked perfectly but the saffron lemon risotto was a little too tart for my taste. The Chocolate Soufflé was fine but suffered from the addition of the lemony sorbet. The cream angles would have been all that was needed, but having the two of them took away from the dish.
The inn is very charming, the service was very good and the room is quiet and refined.
The food would have been a home run, I think the chief is very talents but is trying to hard to be unique...
Celebrating a birthday at this Victorian Marvel. There were other rooms than the porch that were more attractive rooms to eat, but other than that we had a delicious, hearty, healthy dinner. The service was excellent and attentive. I loved the rocking chairs on the deck.
We had an excellent dinner. The food was wonderful with lots of local ingredients. Service was top notch and just a lovely night out.
The food was not up to it's usual excellence. The signature steak entree was prepared well but I received mostly end cuts. The service from Stephanie was outstanding. We will return again and will hope that the entrees next time are back to their usual past excellence.
I was disappointed with the overall experience. Overpriced for what you get.
