About The Blue Pig Tavern
The Blue Pig Tavern serves American cuisine-nostalgic, simple and fresh. Executive Chef Jeremy Einhorn has implemented a delicious farm-to-table menu featuring fresh produce, herbs and eggs from our very own Beach Plum Farm, located less than 2 miles from the restaurant!
In the warmer months, dine on our wonderful, secluded patio. In the cooler months, cozy up to our magnificent dining room fireplace. The Blue Pig Tavern drives its name from a gambling parlor sited at Congress Hall in the mid 1800's. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.

The Blue Pig Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Great Place! Employees are warm and welcoming from the time you arrive to the time you leave. Just wish the menu wasnt excessive with ingredients....Whatever happened to an original dish? Sometimes the ingredient tweeks and combinations make the dish less appealing, especially when 90% of the time people dont even know what they are.
Great meal, the food is really good. Had the crab cakes which were outstanding. Fresh oysters were very good, could have ate more of them! Only complaint which was not so bad but I felt we were rushed through our meal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
It was supposed to be my birthday dinner but I was getting over the stomach virus going around. I had a ginger ale & a bowl of chicken soup: the most expensive sick dinner I ever had $12.50! The soup was ok. My husband at least enjoyed his meal. We were seated by the fireplace, as per my request, so that made it nice. Our server Flossie was very good.
Dinner and service were excellent! My family and I were celebrating my husband's birthday on a very cold night. The Blue Pig was toasty and warm with the fire was blazing and everyone raved about their respective entrees. Our server was prompt, personable and helpful. We have dined there on a number of occasions and they never disappoint.
Very reliable kitchen and constantly friendly staff. The menu has a wide range of choices and often some interesting specials- last night was monkfish osco busco which sounded very interesting. I had the soup, grilled octopus and Beach Plum Farm salad. The humus was good and my wife enjoyed her bolognese. Wine list is varied with numerous price points. The fireplace is going and the pace of our meal was terrific, one plus of off-season at this popular resort. We appreciated how the manager, Will, checked in on us. We dine here at least monthly all-year and appreciate its attention to sustainable and local food sourcing.
I never complain about a restaurant, if I don’t like it, I just don’t return. My Husband and I stay at CH quite frequently, with our stay breakfast is normally included, all the staff here are always wonderful and pleasant, never a bad experience, but the BLue Pug Tavern just can’t get it right, not sure if its under staffed, but to wait 20 mins for a drink, another 15mins for your check!!!!we normally just have breakfast but as it was so cold we decided to have dinner here, same thing long wait before our server approached us, my husband who is very patient was ready to leave, drinks finally arrived, wrong order!!! Table next to us one entree warm other cold!!!Nice cozy restaurant, very nice staff, food was decent, but please get it together , maybe hire more staff at busy times
We had drinks at the Brown Room and listened to the live music while waiting for our reservation. We asked to sit in the main room with the fireplace since it was such a cold night. Food was delicious and waitress was great! We will definitely be going back!
My husband and I were there for New years's eve dinner. The main dining room was too dark to see the menu and to see what you were eating. My husband complained. The manager spoke to him, but my husband was beyond pleasing. The manager said to him, "I don't know what you want me to tell you". This, of course, infuriated my husband all the more. My husband sent back his fried calamari which was overdone and greasy. My scallops were too salty. Overall, my husband was very dissatisfied which ruined that part of the evening for me. Needless to say, that will likely be the last time we have a meal there.
The beer and wine was delicious. The Bloody Mary had no flavor the waitress took it off our bill
We had the clam chowder and black bean soup
Both were good. We had poached eggs called I believe the black stone. It was a very ample plate with good home fried potatoes. We also had the fried haddock sandwich which was hand breaded and delicious and served with a small salad. We also had the Rueben which was delicious. The service was attentive
Definitely will be back
Congress Hall is a gathering place in CApe May. The Brown Room, Blue Pig Tavern and the Boiler Room all have their own ambiance. The Blue Pig has farm to table ingredients and delicious options. It's our go-to place for special occasions. Cocktails are good, servers are friendly and helpful and reservations are a must. We can't wait to return.
I live on the West Coast and whenever I am back in the area visiting family we always take a trip to Cape May and The Blue Pig has become our favorite spot. It never disappointing. The food is great , environment is lively and the service is phenomenal. My family in particular is a fan of Flossy. She is very friendly, attentive and goes above and beyond to make sure our experience is top notch. She makes you feel VIP every time. I love the scallops and my parents are huge fans of the burger. Plus, you can't go wrong with desert. Thanks for making us feel at home and special!
My husband and I had lunch on a busy day over the holidays. The soups, chicken noodle and the clam chowder, were both Luke warm. The sandwiches were good, nothing extraordinary. The staff looked tired and seemed to not want to be there which as far as I’m concerned is not my problem. To top it off, they didn’t give me my Open Table points, again, apathy.
It was Christmas dinner so we expected a crowd, but the reception desk was so unorganized, nobody could hear their name being called. The service was so slow that the bus boy asked us if we were finished, when we hadn't even had water or bread. The food was delicious when we finally got something. The venue is in Cape May so "older" is a good way to describe it. Price value ratio I would not go back when there are so many fabulous restaurants in that town.
Best fried calamari I ever ate, clam chowder was good, crab cakes were just ok, especially for the price. These seemed to be breaded and deep-fried, 2 perfectly round balls, larger than golf balls, but smaller than tennis balls. I prefer sautéed disc-shaped patties without breading. We were seated outside the main dining area, but didn't mind since it was a busy Christmas eve. We had music coming from a speaker above our table that was all but drowned-out by the live music playing in the adjoining lounge. Annoying, but not enough to ruin the experience. I'd like to visit again on a less hectic night to see if the overall experience improves, but definitely not at the top of my list since the food was just 'good' and the overall experience did not compensate for the over-priced food and drinks.
We love the ambiance of the Blue Pig & Congress Hall, especially at Christmas. Love using Open Table & they are very good respecting reservations. Food is very good with a few glitches: we like very hot coffee & theirs is always lukewarm 😔; potatoes tend to be greasy & too soft.....it’s the little things that take food up a notch.....and, although the potential is there to knock it out of the park, it never lives up to full expectations. I know they can do it, just need to try harder.
