About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for outdoor dining
Gather at the Blue Pig Tavern, our distinctive restaurant tucked in the corner of Congress Hall. Known for hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner favorites, its name derives from a gambling parlor sited in Congress Hall in the mid-1800s. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May. Today, we offer timeless classics and new seasonal delights with ingredients that are always farm-fresh.

The food was very good. Steak was done right. We ate in the main room, and the noise level was overwhelming! Could not hear anything or talk with ease. Most likely would not eat there again unless we were outside.

Thank you, Jackie, for your kindness and lovely disposition! Such a lovely person and we are so appreciative that you accommodated our party of 5 so quickly when we were an hour early for our breakfast reservation. Dan, our server, was great! Friendly and attentive. Thank you BP for another wonderful dining experience.

I booked a last minute outside table on a very busy Friday night. As soon as we arrived a huge thunderstorm made everyone dinning outside run inside. TBP staff was so accommodating and seated us inside along with the other rain soaked diners. Crab cake and grouper specials were excellent, both a 5 star presentation. That’s a hard thing to achieve in a town known for amazing seafood. It was a bit loud inside but then again so was the rain and thunder. Good for large families, or dinner for two. We’ll be back soon!

Me, my wife and mother in law come there frequently when on vacation. Last night we had a reservation at 7:30 we were seated promptly, we ordered our drinks and food at the same time because we already knew what we wanted. Our food did not come out until 8:20 while other tables who sat after were getting thermos food. My wife ordered a medium well steak in which she repeated 3 times (due to a language barrier on the waiters side) when the steak came out almost an hour later, it was incredibly rare. We sent it back only to receive another one slightly more cooked but still very bloody. At this point myself and mother in law were done our food and now had to wait for my wife’s new plate (she changed it to something different since the steak was obviously an issue) we always have a great experience but this time was not. Food is always amazing but this time (if it was our first) we wouldn’t come back.
