The Blue Pig Tavern
In the warmer months, dine on our wonderful, secluded patio. In the cooler months, cozy up to our magnificent dining room fireplace. The Blue Pig Tavern drives its name from a gambling parlor sited at Congress Hall in the mid 1800's. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.
Service was great And we had a lovely night but food was not as unique nor creative as it has been.
The menu used to be eclectic with ingredients paired together for a delectable experience. My dinner was not bad but it wasn’t what I had come to expect from the Blue Pig Tavern.
My family enjoyed their dinner but I would love to see you bring back more interesting options.
Love that they haven’t changed the decor all these years and we hope they never do! Eugene was our server and was amazing! Sometimes female servers are more attentive and detailed but he was probably the best male waiter we’ve had ever, anywhere!! We loved how knowledgeable he was and made great suggestions for wine and entree choice for some indecisive ones in our group. He was very careful in checking on allergies and never made us feel like a burden as some places do with allergies. The crab cake was the best ever even compared to Maryland! The only negative was my vegetarian, non seafood eating sister wasn’t happy with her $25 small portioned rigatoni with a few veggies. She was still hungry and we can’t blame her.
This continues to be a family favorite with top notch service and excellent food. We love this place. Great wine selections and of course cocktails! Three teenage kids also loved it and top tip is outside dining if weather cooperates.
Can fill quickly so reservations recommended.
Theyvtook the bananas foster pancakes off the menu but everything else was very very good.
Small menu but good food and located inside beautiful Congress Hall. The barley and quinoa salad was really great and my husband loved the fish and chips. Great for a casual dinner.
Reliable year round dining. Love the fresh vegetables and eggs from the Beach Plum farm
We absolutely loved this place! We ate here for breakfast, dinner, and breakfast again the following morning because the food was just that good! The breakfast was delicious, I got the corned beef hash skillet both days. For dinner, we sat outside on their patio, it was a beautiful evening and the ambiance was perfect! The food was just as delicious! The service was wonderful! Would absolutely recommend. We’ve been to Cape May a few times in the past, but we never tried this place until this trip. So glad that we did!
Good food with very good, and friendly service! We will go again!
Nice place for brunch. Lots of variety in the menu. Service was a little slow but friendly. French toast was good but portions were small - teens still hungry. The skillet dishes were delicious! The porch was lovely. Would return for sure .
What a wonderful experience. I went to Cape May (from Lewes on the ferry) for the day with my mother last week, and we had lunch at the Blue Pig Tavern. It's a cute place in the Congress hotel (check out the bar area also!) with interesting history.
The service was exceptional. I had avocado toast and, being the New Yorker I am, wanted something off menu so asked to have an egg on it - and it was no problem. The meal was delicious - I swear they picked the lettuce in my salad that morning because it was so fresh!
My mother forgot her "Prada" sunglasses (you know, the Chinese version....) and didn't realize it until we were on the ferry back to Delaware. No problem. I gave them a call and not only did someone turn them in, William made sure to package them well and put them in the mail to her the next day. That kind of service means I will definitely be going back to eat there. Thanks William and Blue Pig - you made me and my mother very happy!
Food and service were just ok. It’s a shame for such a great location and atmosphere. Overall kind of disappointed.
It is a beautiful place to have dinner. The food was good, but expensive. The service was extremely slow with our server disappearing for long periods of time. They seem to be understaffed. We probably would not go back.
Great spot for a casual dinner - had a date night without the kids and enjoyed the whole evening. Had a cocktail outside on the grass first. The crab claws and crab cakes were delicious!
Will have to say we are done eating here after years. The food is now just ok after being good for a long time. We ate here at least 2-3x a year for over 5 years. It just tastes like hotel food they are pumping out at this point. Specials are nothing specials and I make more flavorful food at home. Shame as it was so good for so long.
Lousy table, food was below average
This place was good. We enjoyed it more for dinner. Breakfast (one order of pancakes and eggs) took over 45 minutes. It was very frustrating.
Can’t beat the atmosphere! Something for everyone on the menu. All very tasty. Staff was attentive. Grounds are great to stroll around after your meal.
Everything was good, server delivered food then did not return until meal was done. Wanted more sauce for my meal and eventually ate it as is until server came back after it was gone. Only complaint
The food, service, everything, was fantastic. We usually stay in Cape May but stayed in Avalon this time. This place is so good that we drove to Cape May just to eat here. I highly recommend.
Great food, beautiful location and wonderful service!
We had a 5:30 reservation and were permitted to change our reservation for an earlier seating at 5:00. This was great for our hungry children. My only complaint is that we were one of the first tables seated for the evening and we were given a terrible table, outside and next to the front entrance. Otherwise the food, service and ambiance were excellent, as always!
great dinner on their patio, from the wine, appetizers, entrees and desserts, a wonderful experience. Our server Josh was attentive and knowledgeable
Great food, great atmosphere as always
Delicious food and great service
Wonderful breakfast. NEVER take Eggs Blackstone off the menu! We drive down once a year from North Jersey just for that dish! The rest of the menu is also excellent!
Nice ambiance. Delicious food.
Perfect for lunch. A lot noisy but the excellent food choices make it worth it.
We enjoyed our food and the service was great.
We were seated right away, and then waited over 25 minutes before being acknowledged for even water. Serves went to every table around us, and we could see some just standing around looking. When we finally flagged someone down, they said our server would be over right away, and then it was still 15 minutes. Even then, someone other than their server who was supposed to serve us was assigned to us. He did a nice job, but since we were out of his normal section it was hard for him to get to us. The food was good, once we got it. But overall it was a fairly miserable experience, and a pretty big disappointment for Congress Hall, which is usually run very well.
The quality of the food is not as good as neighboring restaurants. We stay at Congress Hall every year and out of convenience we will sometimes eat at the Blue Pig. We went to a union park the next night and the food was great.
Celebrating 4th of July with dear friend and her two daughters. It was their 1st time (my 4th) and we all enjoyed our entrees (scallop special, fish and chips and a special shout out to the turkey burger). Appetizers were ok (calamari and soup special). Desert for me was not good at all (sea salt caramel ice cream-way too salty).
Waitress Natasha was very thorough and polite and a pleasure. Manager came over to check on meal mid-way which was nice.
Overall it was a wonderful meal. Thank you!
We frequent the Blue Pig all the time. We have a second home in Cape May. Great breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Wish they would have honored our reservation for tonight. We apparently made our reservation for 7:30 AM and not PM. Risk of an easy error via open table. Open table even called to get us in but they wouldn’t accommodate them either.
Even so we still highly recommend the Blue Pig.
We went for breakfast. We planned on eating outside though we ended up choosing the porch which was just as nice. My husband is still talking about the hashbrown casserole. He requested two eggs on top and they accommodated him. My meal came with a big bowl of fresh fruit. We will definitely return for lunch or dinner. We even purchased the blue pig mugs!
It was very busy as it was July 4th week but we where seated quickly and served with water and bread. Our waiter Eugene was very attentive and friendly without being overbearing and made us feel welcome and special in a sea of people. The food is simple good food that was well prepared and was perfectly seasoned. Thank you for a great evening!!!!
My husband & I come here every year while we’re on vacation in Cape May. As always, the food & service was outstanding!
Blue Pig was a great experience. Delicious food especially the chowder and mussels. Our server
was very attentive and helpful. Nice to visit in Cape May.
Delicious meal, wonderful service and lovely outdoor seating
The preparation of the food was most disappointing. My husband ordered fish and chips and while the portion was fine and the fish fresh, the batter was soggy. I ordered the “crunchy” fried scallops which were also soggy. Both our dishes came with fries which were just basic and also a bit soggy. Our server was excellent and we can only say she tried very hard but the kitchen needs improvement.
Good menu with changing choices during the summer. Outdoor seating when the weather is good is wonderful.
