The Blue Pig Tavern

In the warmer months, dine on our wonderful, secluded patio. In the cooler months, cozy up to our magnificent dining room fireplace. The Blue Pig Tavern drives its name from a gambling parlor sited at Congress Hall in the mid 1800's. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.
Blue Pig Martini
Ketel One Vodka, Hypnotiq, Pineapple Juice
mashed potatoes, Beach Plum Farm seasonal vegetables, tartar sauce
Blue Pig Tavern Fish and Chips
day boat haddock, Blue Pig Tavern Ale batter, french fries
Always an excellent experience and great food even with the current COVID restrictions. Being able to dine out and have excellent quality food made our vacation very special and memorable.
Really an elegant place for dinner. Loved sitting on the patio. I had the steak and cake and my husband had the burger. We both enjoyed our dinner. The crab cake was phenomenal. The service was excellent! We will be back!
We usually eat at the Blue Pig once each time we are in Cape May. I have to say this was the best meal I've had there - the food continues to get better and the fresh ingredients from Beach Plum Farm really add an extra bit of flavor. For this reservation, we were having dinner. We did have to wait a bit for our table. In addition, service was good though a bit rushed. I believe that due to the COVID 19 pandemic, they likely did not hire as many wait staff as they needed given the size of the crowd. Still, the meal was lovely, the environment great in their garden patio and the food was the best I've had at the Blue Pig.
Beautiful outdoor location with umbrellas for shade. Delicious delicacies from the chef match the historical beach side resort. Live music played out on the green allows for a wonderful meal.
Please note that this place used to be one of my favorite joints down in Cape May. It is definitely not what it used to be before the pandemic. The food went down in quality, the birds are a nuisance for outside dining and the staff looked and sounded miserable. My eggs benedict has always been served on a homemade biscuit but this time it was just on a regular English muffin and the Canadian bacon was fatty, very disappointing. Other people in my party said the same thing about the quality of the food, the very annoying birds and the staff.
This restaurant has really over-reached - trying to capitalize on the opportunity of outdoor dining being the only game in town.
Food was bad - Jonah Crab claws that had a tough texture and a fish and chips entree that was just miserable.
Lovely setting! Great job!
This place has a severe seagull problem. A seagull landed on my table knocked over my wine and ate my salmon. The waitress offered to replace it but it was too late the mood was ruined. We were not the only table who has to deal with seagulls landing and eating the food. It was terrible!
We visit this restaurant every year, and that is because of the quality of the experience. The food is very good, fresh, consistent, and priced reasonably. The service is always friendly and attentive. We do love the quaint room, and always elect to eat inside, so we were concerned this year about whether we could get a reservation, since everyone is dealing with their outdoor area. The weather was iffy, so we were seated under the portico at Congress Hall, and that was a beautiful setting! Our dinners of shrimp cocktail, beet salad, salmon, meatloaf and crab cake were all delicious.
Great food and atmosphere
For the price, they didn’t get the little things right.
We arrived promptly for a 6pm reservation and were seated after about a 10 min wait and a decent walk at the end of the lawn closest to the beach. Not sure what the wait was since only about half the tables were occupied. We were sat in a table right in the beating sun, despite all other diners being in the shade. After about 5 mins being uncomfortably hot and waiting for a staff member I flagged down a server, and asked to move tables. He asked we not move and went on the long walk to get our server. She asked we not move and went on the long walk to talk to the hostess who thankfully approved our request. Again, only about half the tables were occupied so I am not sure if the shady tables were reserved for more important diners.
After dripping in my own sweat, the beer I ordered (tropical wheat) was not available and the waitress stated she was unsure why it was even on the menu since it hadn’t been served in a long time. The rest of the beer menu was unexceptional. Even the Flying Fish Tavern Ale I ordered was average despite the brewery generally producing excellent stuff.
Crab soup was ok but a bit thin on crab, and lobster lasagna well made but every bite tasted identical and there were no sides to break the monotony.
Cape Resorts - you can do better. We dined at the Ebbitt Room earlier in the week and small amount more in pricing got us a step change in dining experience.
We had the calamari appetizer and it was very good. My wife had the fish and chips and she was very happy with that. I had BBQ sliced pork sandwich. It was good but it was not pork, it was ham. So I'm not pleased with being deceived.
The hostess, Tanesha, was SO incredibly nice! She went out of her way to find for us and was so polite and friendly!
Everything from start to finish was wonderful! The meal was excellent and made even better by how well the restaurant and resort is handling the post Covid dining experience. Not once felt uneasy while dining which made the meal even better. Our waitress, Natasha, was very busy and spread thin, but was on top of everything and was still extremely kind and personable.
Dined on the Verandah by the great laen on 7/04 was a great experience
Class and beautiful ambiance for less than surrounding restaurants. A must for Cape May visitors.
Beautiful setting, we have been visiting Congress Hall since 2003 prior to the completion of the renovations. I love it and we try to visit at least annually. I really love the hotel sadly, this was a very different visit. I look forward to visiting when things are not so prohibitive.
Very attentive support staff to waitress
Food was tasty but not overly flavorful. Staff were cordial but not attentive.
Champagne served warm -waitress never asked if “all ok “ or needed anything “like salt &pepper” etc.
Been there several time and they never disappoint.
The atmosphere was very nice. We had a great time and enjoyed most of the food-one person had the sliced pork sandwich, which was overly salty. The only draw back was the slow service. It took a long time for our waitress to return for anything...even the check. We definitely would recommend and return.
Great food, ask for Natasha she was an awesome server!! Highly recommend the blue cheese burger and the salmon. Cucumber martini is a must.
We arrived for our 8:15 reservation on time. We were not seated until 9:15. After being seated we waited 20 minutes and a server never showed up to take a drink or food order. We left and ate at another restaurant.
Deviled eggs were great!
Great food and service.
Perfect in these trying times . Great server and trainee:)
Very disappointed, in these Covid-19 times NONE of the staff were wearing gloves as required by law and masks were worn low not covering there face, especially our server. When this was mentioned to her she said she could not talk with it on! She apologized and said she was sorry!Being in the vulnerable age group we were very disturbed!
We usually love this place but will not return anytime soon!
Went here on 6/22 with the fiancee. Place was jammed packed, the staff were getting railroaded both with the level of service and the packs of inconsiderate guests. That being said, they handled it like pros. From the hostesses trying their best to get every five top walk-in a table with a smile on their face while getting sneered at, to the servers getting food and drinks to a dozen or so tables. Food was stellar, good flavor, prompt, hot. Laura was our server and she was phenomenal. We’ve gone here for the last three years and plan to continue. Killing it, Blue Pig Tavern. 👍
Staff/hostess area was very overwhelmed and we ended up at a tiny table next to the entrance to the grand ballroom so about 75 people came by our table during the 90 minutes we sat to eat dinner which was not ideal especially when we are supposed to be keeping a distance.
Excellent- they are working out the process for outdoor dining due to restrictions so patience is a virtue but they are trying very hard- good job!!
Able to change the reservation time. but confusion as to wait for our hostess to seat us...inside or out. Drinks or no drinks. Natasha the server seemed rushed and not in complete calm with the situation. Difficulty with asking for separate checks. That should be NO problem.
We tried the Blue Pig Tavern 2 years ago. They messed up on our reservation, but we decided to give them another try. They don’t seem to be getting their act together. This time we had reservations for 5PM. We got there at 5 and had to wait because they weren’t ready. My husband ordered fish and chips which was all dough. He pulled the small pieces of fish out and left the dough on the plate. I had a Cesar salad and the dressing did not have any taste to it. My husband did like his New England clam chowder soup. The waitress did not even ask how our $50 dinner was.
Even with our new normal Congress Hall and The Blue Pig are as perfect as ever. Awesome wait staff fresh food and the most gorgeous ambience ever. Well done once again!!
We love the Blue Pig. As always, it was a great meal in a beautiful setting. While our waitress was lovely and very attentive, I was a bit surprised to see her face mask down around her neck. By the second half of the meal, it had disappeared altogether. Hoping that you can re-educate staff on the importance of wearing a mask.
Poor service and below average food
Nice job of reworking the outdoor space.
Lovely, attentive waitstaff
Great Fathers Day meal! Everything was delicious!
The restaurant is serving outside only. We dined on the front porch running alongside the grass courtyard. Our server was masked and gracious. She knew when we needed something and when to give us privacy. Atmosphere is key here. You can’t get any more romantic. Beautiful breeze, live Spanish guitar music, good food and good company. Nice to get out after 3 months of staying home. Lovely evening. Highly recommended.
Absolutely loved the ambience of this restaurant. Excellent food,
Location and service was top shelf. The only thing I was disappointed with was the spicy Bloody Mary. Taste was good but lacked “appearance” and character. Served in a small thin glass so didn’t hold much as well. Definitely looking forward coming back there soon!
