The Blue Pig Tavern
In the warmer months, dine on our wonderful, secluded patio. In the cooler months, cozy up to our magnificent dining room fireplace. The Blue Pig Tavern drives its name from a gambling parlor sited at Congress Hall in the mid 1800's. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.
Excellent meal! Beet and goat cheese salad followed by the most magnificent seared scallops and homemade strawberry ice cream.
More limited menu than I expected. Attentive wait staff. Noisy and dark in the tavern room even though this was a sunny brunch time and not too busy.
Slow service but good food
It was a great meal and atmosphere! Really enjoyed everything and our server was so kind. We just got engaged and he made sure we had a very special meal!
I've eaten at the Blue Pig many times, but not in the past 5 years - glad to see it's still as wonderful as ever! Aside from some initial hiccups (our waiter didn't show up for 20+ minutes), we had a great experience and will definitely be visiting again.
The blue pig Tavern on a Saturday night for dinner was very crowded and very loud! I’ve had a lunch there before and it was very nice but the service for dinner was spotty at best
We were seated immediately. The server was very attentive and answered our questions about items in the menu. The service was prompt and the food was delicious. Can’t wait to go back!
Loved our lunch at the Blue Pig Tavern. Took my husband for his 40th with a few friends and it was perfect. Food was delicious and filling. Loved the decor. We will be back again.
Dinner was very good and the service was great.
We loved the food and the atmosphere!! My kids loved the pig stickers and the menu which included dessert for them!
Can’t get enough of the Blue Pig . I love the vintage decor and hope that never changes.
The placemats, the napkins,dishes.the fireplace.
Service is always helpful and gracious.
We find the food is always up to par and any problems are always handled nicely.
It’s maintained a high level of service over many years.
Food was fantastic! Service was a little slow but it was Mother’s Day.
Delicious Mother's Day brunch! I had the best egg dish - Eggs Blackstone? Poached eggs with tomatoes, wilted greens, bacon, hollandaise sauce over a cheddar scallion biscuit. Ingredients come from their farm, Beach Plum, and you can tell. My children love their chocolate chip pancakes and my husband enjoyed his Continental as well. My 8 year old wanted a hot tea and they ran over to their store for a more "kid friendly" tea. They go above and beyond every time!
Not the same. Service wasn’t great. Could not handle all the reservations for Mother’s Day. Food used to be better.
Honestly I was disappointed. We were seated in what felt like a conference room for breakfast.
Amazing place, amazing food... every time we're here!
We all had something different to eat. Bacon wrapped meatloaf, Fish and Chips, Salmon and the Seafood special. Every bite was delicious. I think prices for drinks are a bit pricey but overall we had a lovely evening.
Excellent experience. Delicious food and drinks. Attentive service.
Have eaten here a number of times and been very satisfied. Service this time was terrible. No one ever came for a drink order, never filled water glasses and food was okay.
Opted for the Blue Plate Special which is a two course meal. Your choice of soup or salad and 4 entree options. Not a bad value for $22.00. However this is somewhat uninspired cooking. The chicken "schnitzel" was well breaded and slightly overcooked...leaning on the dry side. The Brussels Sprouts were far too crispy..too undercooked and good mashed potatoes. Overall there was not a lot of flavor going on here. Have eaten here at least 6 or 7 times here...getting bored with the rather ordinary food here.
The Blue Pig is well run and the wait staff is friendly, efficient and helpful.
Will return for the the service, comfortable ambiance and will stick to some regular menu options or a burger.
Maybe try the pizza in the Boiler Room downstairs.
Wife and I enjoyed our meals. I highly recommend the linguine with little neck clams and mussels!
A wonderful server named Natasha. A Rumanian immigrant, who became a US citizen. Professional, hard working, and a lovely person. Welcome, and we are all benefiting from her being with us.
As always a great experience! Flossie is always so cheerful and attentive!
One of the best meals I've had in a long time. The Steak and Cake was phenomenal. As was the shrimp pasta. Staff was very friendly and super attentive! Will surely be going back!!
First time at the Blue Pig Tavern in Cape May. Crowded for a spring weekend however we were seated immediately. Server was slow to get drink orders. Appetizers came in timely manner and excellent. Calamari and Deviled eggs were generous and tasty. Dinner salads came out a little too soon for my liking but were very good. Server did not check on us until we asked the hostess to get her. Just needed more salad dressing. Noise level is high and can be difficult to hear because tables are very close. Overall food is very good and worth the visit.
We were in Cape May for one night and were looking for an interesting dinner menu, local ingredients and nice setting - Blue Pig delivered! I had the fettuccine with scallops freshly caught off the coast and vegetables from their farm, all in a light saffron cream - it was amazing. The scallops were large, tender, sweet and incredibly fresh. My husband had a freshly picked salad that was vibrant and delicious, along with fresh trout that was perfectly prepared. For dessert we had a caramelized banana cake with praline that was amazing - one of the best desserts I’ve had in a long time. It was a great meal and we had a Pinot Noir from a small winery in Burgundy that paired well with our meal.
The blue pig never fails to put out a great meal whether it is brunch, lunch or dinner. Servers are always helpful and gracious.
Lovely spot in the historic Congress Hall hotel. We sat on the interior porch which was the perfect spot to catch up with old friends! Sunday brunch gives you the choice of breakfast or lunch menus, both of which have a really nice selection. Food was very good as was the service!
Make a reservation, it gets busy.
We enjoyed a relaxing evening on the enclosed porch. Service was excellent and our meals were delicious! Only disappointment of the evening was our Americanos...very weak!
Food and service were good. The noise was louder than I’ve experienced on previous visits. It was difficult for me to get to the bench seat where the 2 person tables were set up. I am disabled and must use a cane as well I can’t face a mirror. So my friend’s first experience there was disappointed. I hope for a better experience if we return again. She was not expecting to return again. I did tell her I had better experiences previously.
Food was good. The staff was very accommodating. Overall a very enjoyable dining experience.
First time dining here, and even though there was a town wide power outage which delayed our reservation by an hour, staff was friendly and informative. And as soon as the power returned it was business as usual with no delay. Food and service were both excellent and visiting on family night with a four year old was wonderful as we were greeted by The Blue Pig! Can’t wait to dine here again.
We had a very nice server and delicious drinks and appetizer but than the entire town lost power so we had to leave. To bad, I’m sure it would have been delicious.
It was so fun and low key. Live music is always a win. Definitely recommend!
As we come to Cape May about 3 times a year, a dinner at the Blue Pig is a tradition and always a must!
They know how to cook seafood!
There is always a scallop special which is always incredible.
However, sadly, their meatloaf has changed in the past year or two. It is now ordinary and no longer has the special spicing.
While the food and service are more than excellent, the dining room continues to be tired and a bit dingy.
When you make a reservation for 2, be sure to always ask for a 4-top if you can. The deuces (for 2) are just way too tiny to enjoy a multi-course meal. Easter Monday night was crowded and we couldn't get our usual 4-top. Luckily we were near a wall ledge and could place some of our items there.
However our awesome server, Natasha, made it all worth it. She is a gem.
Went for Easter dinner. Food was awesome and service was amazing! Scallops were out of this world!!
We've been coming to The Blue Pig for many, many years and lately noticed it slipping. On each of our past few visits we have had issues with service (very slow) or food. We keep coming back because we love spending time on the lawn at Congress Hall but this was our last visit.
We dined at 1pm on Easter and I ordered the flat iron steak, medium rare with a substitution of salad instead of the fries. When my meal arrived it looked like it had been thrown on the plate. The steak was well done (grey and dry in the middle) and the "salad" was mostly a huge pile of frisee, those spike-y lettuce leaves that are almost inedible. I hardly ever send food back but this time I did and said if it would take a long time to get a new meal then I wouldn't send it back. The waitress assured me it would not--but it did. My whole family finished their meal by the time my new meal arrived. I was offered fruit while they waited. The steak arrived and was now cooked rare (red/blue and cold in the middle) and the fries I had asked to swap out were on the plate--since I knew what the salad consisted of I kept the fries.
My husband's pulled pork sandwich was dry and tasteless and my daughters scrambled eggs had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp (likely while my steak overcooked) since it had that crusty exterior. The only meal that was decent was my other daughter's chocolate chip pancakes. We received the bill for the full amount, not even a 10% discount of good faith. Only as we were walking out was I offered a drink voucher to the bar downstairs--who is going to a bar on Easter with their children after my whole family waited for me to finish my new meal?
I think The Blue Pig is resting on its laurels a bit lately, hoping people dine there just because they love Congress Hall but we won't be back. My money is better spent elsewhere.
Our waitress was not attentive at all!!! Food took forever to arrive. When I asked the manager for help getting more ice tea she said of course but then took at 10 minutes to bring more.
