The Blue Pig Tavern
In the warmer months, dine on our wonderful, secluded patio. In the cooler months, cozy up to our magnificent dining room fireplace. The Blue Pig Tavern drives its name from a gambling parlor sited at Congress Hall in the mid 1800's. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.
Loved the food and our waitress was excellent! I have small children and it’s very family friendly.
We love eating here but this night was a disappointment. Very slow service and was seated at a very small table that kept wobbling.
Food and waitress was very good
My husband and I enjoyed our dinner. The Caesar salad was very good as was the complementary bread that was served. My husband had fried shrimp and I had the salmon. Both were good but not exceptional. We enjoyed the wood fire and the decorations added to the festive mood of the season. Our server was excellent.
The service was extremely bad. The server was miserable. We had a party of 6 and one person ordered a medium hamburger which came out raw. It took the server at least 15 minutes to come back and check on us. Our meals were almost finished when they acknowledged the mistake. We typically start our Holiday Season out with a night in Cape May. The Blue Pig will not be on our agenda next year.
My favorite brunch restaurant is the Blue Pig Tavern. The menu options and specials were great.
Holiday decorations and festivities were lovely! Roaring fireplace, good food and good service!
First class service and food from start to finish!!!
The Thanksgiving Neal was as good as home cooked and Maria was terrific. Great and friendly service.
Had a nice experience celebrating Thanksgiving at the Blue Pig Tavern. Our server was kind and knowledgeable. Food was excellent, especially the turkey platter. Desserts need work. Pies were served cold and slices were very small. A few hiccups like having to ask for bread where other tables received it soon after being seated. To be expected on a busy holiday I suppose. Will definitely go again next year, will probably skip dessert though.
Extremely disappointing all around. Food mediocre at best, seated in a hallway addition that felt more like a surgical center than a restaurant. Server was dismissive. Definitely not recommending this place!
We're locals and this is one of the only restaurants open in the winter. We like go here for the atmosphere and the fireplace. The food is ok, but the menu is very tired. It hasn't changed in a decade. Yes there are a few specials but it would be nice to see a complete overhaul, and some better cooking from the kitchen.
We come to Cape May every November and never miss brunch here!
Overall a wonderful and memorable experience. From the drinks to the calamari to the swordfish, everything was perfect!
Loved it! What a great way to start the holiday season!
Food and service was great, ambience was warm and quiet!
We used to eat here every weekend, the food was amazing. It's disappointing some of the dishes they offered before they have taken off menu or taste and look different. The seaside omelette, grits with bacon chunks, the stuffed french toast is not stuffed with the goodness it use to have. The only thing that hasn't changed is some of the waitresses, they are always on point. We absolutely love Alyssa. I know the cook is great too and they are just following orders as far as how they have to serve the items on the menu. Honestly management should talk to the waiters and waitresses, they know there customers likes, dislikes and
they would know the best imput.I know this because I heard other customers complaining of the same thing we complained about. So I knew it wasn't just us. Just to show you the difference of the French stuffed toast, the pics are below.
Beautiful interior, service was excellent, I thought it was a bit pricey and the menu a bit limited.
Love the new rendition of the baked bread and the chicken dish!
Had a very nice lunch. Lovely fireplace. Food was very good. Service ok, could be better especially since slow. Atmosphere the best part of it. Noisy crying baby nearby for most of the lunch. Food is very fresh. Pricey, but fresh. I had the turkey avocado sandwich on country white bread, and my friend had the avocado toast.
Congress Hall never disappoints. Blue Pig tonight was wonderful. Seated directly at the fire place. Cocktails after at Brown Room. Food and staff are professional and courteous. As usual any food in Cape May is fresh Farm or sea to table
The Blue Pig is always great! We took advantage of the Blue Plate Special and the food was amazing! I would highly recommend the Blue Pig to anyone!
Went with the family (tween and teen) and enjoyed our visit. Food was delicious and portions hearty. Loved that they had jazz in a lounge space — couldn’t tell if it was part of restaurant or hotel — but all in all it was a very nice evening. First time in Cape May. Hotel is lovely and well maintained (both physically but also maintaining the history is nice, too). I would go again.
Had a wonderful dinner seated by the fireplace. Server Maria was wonderful. Just wish they would expand their menu a little bit and bring back the hummus as an appetizer!
Great lunch! Hummus plate appetizer was yummy but not enough to dip~ had leftover hummus
The food was okay but the service was extremely slow considering it wasn't that busy.
We had a reservation at 6:15 and didn’t sit to our table until 7:15. We had 3 kids and 4 adults. Half the party had to leave in advance to dinner. Dinner still took over 2 hours. The food when it came out was in very small portions and the kids food was covered with oil/butter. My son complained that his plain pasta was actually disgusting. I checked his food and it was covered in oil/butter. I really wanted this place to be great but it was a very bad experience and ruined our family’s night. Nice place but terrible planning and service. We wish it would be great because the building and atmosphere is awesome. Unfortunately the food and service doesn’t match the history.
Weekend away at the beach. We didn’t realize it was restaurant week but we were very happy with the menu and took advantage of the special. The drinks from the bar are always great, the pan a cotta for dessert was wonderful!
A good experience. Good & service were excellent. The staff made you feel welcome.
They couldn’t find the bottle of wine we ordered, so we waited a long time for our drinks. Then the brought our salads and entrees all at the same time... we sent the entrees back so they wouldn’t be cold. Good food, but odd service experience.
We were a party of 4 on Halloween night. It was also restaurant week in Cape May. I ordered the baked macaroni with crab. It was off the regular menu and I added the crab as an extra. It was absolutely delicious. The other 3 did the special menu fried oysters appetizers , scallop pot pie, and various desserts, for $35. Everyone had a fun time.
Charming. Even fire going in the fireplace- great on that blustery day. Lovely menu.
We went during a very quiet time...on a Tuesday evening during the off season. First we visited the Brown Room, which is really nice to have a drink and listen to some live music. Such a cool space and very enjoyable. Then we went to the Blue Pig (in the next room) for dinner. Was a really great evening for us.
Food was ok, menu selection limited. The chairs were so uncomfortable and wobbly . We were given a table that was literally in a walk way for servers. I was knocked into 3 times by a waitress who kept apologizing, it wasn’t her fault just poorly thought out place for a table. Wouldn’t return.
We have dined here before and had good experiences; this time our server seemed disinterested in taking good care of us. Food was ok, but our experience was not the best. Felt like our server was not giving us his best attention. We went to the Brown Room, the bar in Congress Hall, for drinks after dinner in the same building, and service there was much better.
We dine here frequently and always enjoy the ambience (especially in the cooler months when there is a fire in the big fireplace). Food was good but service was a bit slow, as is sometimes the case here. As long as you are not in a hurry it’s a great place to be :)
We loved this restaurant! The service was outstanding and the value was very good for the price! Looking forward to going back again on our next visit to Cape May!!
Good was good, only problem we had is we ordered soup and it was served cold, we sent it back to be warmed up and t was returned only warm.
Brunch was good. Eggs Benedict very good. But, home fries only average. Service good as well.
A Cape May must. Excellent food. Cinnamon buns....mighty good. Coffee was also excellent. Very nice dining experience. Recommended!!!
