The Blue Pig Tavern
In the warmer months, dine on our wonderful, secluded patio. In the cooler months, cozy up to our magnificent dining room fireplace. The Blue Pig Tavern drives its name from a gambling parlor sited at Congress Hall in the mid 1800's. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.
It was so fun and low key. Live music is always a win. Definitely recommend!
Went for Easter dinner. Food was awesome and service was amazing! Scallops were out of this world!!
We've been coming to The Blue Pig for many, many years and lately noticed it slipping. On each of our past few visits we have had issues with service (very slow) or food. We keep coming back because we love spending time on the lawn at Congress Hall but this was our last visit.
We dined at 1pm on Easter and I ordered the flat iron steak, medium rare with a substitution of salad instead of the fries. When my meal arrived it looked like it had been thrown on the plate. The steak was well done (grey and dry in the middle) and the "salad" was mostly a huge pile of frisee, those spike-y lettuce leaves that are almost inedible. I hardly ever send food back but this time I did and said if it would take a long time to get a new meal then I wouldn't send it back. The waitress assured me it would not--but it did. My whole family finished their meal by the time my new meal arrived. I was offered fruit while they waited. The steak arrived and was now cooked rare (red/blue and cold in the middle) and the fries I had asked to swap out were on the plate--since I knew what the salad consisted of I kept the fries.
My husband's pulled pork sandwich was dry and tasteless and my daughters scrambled eggs had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp (likely while my steak overcooked) since it had that crusty exterior. The only meal that was decent was my other daughter's chocolate chip pancakes. We received the bill for the full amount, not even a 10% discount of good faith. Only as we were walking out was I offered a drink voucher to the bar downstairs--who is going to a bar on Easter with their children after my whole family waited for me to finish my new meal?
I think The Blue Pig is resting on its laurels a bit lately, hoping people dine there just because they love Congress Hall but we won't be back. My money is better spent elsewhere.
Our waitress was not attentive at all!!! Food took forever to arrive. When I asked the manager for help getting more ice tea she said of course but then took at 10 minutes to bring more.
The waitress was not attentive. We ordered a sticky bun before our food came out and it never arrived, had to ask for it when our food arrived. 10 minutes later it arrived. Food was good but took forever!! Forever is ok if the food tastes worth the wait 😡!
We have been visiting The Blue Pig for several years now and we always have a wonderful experience. The staff are always wonderful, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is warm & cozy! For brunch we feel it is the best place in town!
Spent long Easter weekend at Congress Hall. Ate breakfast twice and dinner one night at the Blue Pig Tavern. Food was delicious, and the service was perfect. This was our second trip to Cape May and Congress Hall and the Blue Pig Tavern. We will without a doubt be back in the future.
It was just ok.
It was good overall. We enjoyed ourselves.
Great service as always, delicious food. Always glad to get back to the Blue Pig!
Blue Pig is one of our favorites restaurant in Cape May. We have NEVER had a bad meal there. The staff are always friendly. Blue Plate specials awesome.
The drinks are a little pricey for locals.
We visit Cape May and frequent the Congress Hall hotel and Blue Pig Tavern frequently throughout the year, however we were not thrilled with our recent visit. The lighting was extremely poor (I had to use my phone light to read the menu), it was overly warm in the room and our server was basically non-existent throughout our whole meal. Very disappointing given the amount of money we spend in your establishments over all.
Expensive food. Bread was cold and clearly not made in house. They couldn't even be bothered to warm it up. We didn't finish the mussels starter we ordered. The mussels were mealy and the broth was bland. We were clearly sharing it, but they only brought one fork. Our dinners were good, but not worth going again given the rest of the circumstances. The placemats had holes in them. The walls are a hideous pink, the chairs red, the decor blue, and their copywriter thinks the 1800s are in the 18th century.
We made the mistake of returning for breakfast because we were guests of the hotel and it was easy. I may very happily return to Congress Hall, but I will not return to Blue Pig Tavern to eat.
Food was great, server was very friendly and the only downside was that it took long time for the dishes to come out.
Love the Blue Pig, and consider it a treat to have dinner there! Service was excellent, and the food we selected was delicious. As a Cape May local and a person who appreciates lovely linens, please, please do a better job pressing the Blue Pig placemats!!
Purchased a Blue Pig Tavern dining certificate back in January 2019 (2 dinners for $35), which was going to expire soon. The food was exceptional as always, but we were super fortunate enough to have Flossie as our server.
Flossie is the "Gold Standard" of servers. She is polite, attentive... The Best!
Love the Blue Pig however the Shrimp pasta was not up to the usual standards. My husband was fine with his however my pasta was watery with little sauce. Very tasteless.
food was good. had the salmon which was cooked very well. service was a bit on slower side. waitress was very nice, just was a bit slow.
Excellent dining experience. Staff was wonderful. We got first class service throughout the night.
The food was very good as well. Some of the best muscles we've ever had. Great beet salad and crab cakes too. Will definitely be back!
Three of the four meals were mediocre at best. The filet was not edible.
Great food in a great atmosphere.
Had a nice dinner at the Blue Pig. Food was good and the service was great!! Drink prices are very high for a cocktail. Would definitely eat here again.
Food was good. Steak cooked properly. Service was very rushed. Hadn’t finished Apps and they were already serving dinner. Served bread as we were sitting down, not on table before or after we had been seated but literally as we were physically sitting down. Server was pleasant though.
Great vibe, great service, great food! This place is a winner!
This has been on of our favorite restaurant in Cape May. We atleast have one meal here during our stay at Cape May. I would say try this place if you have not.
Food and service were excellent! Will definitely go back on my next trip to Cape May!!
Such a warm Welcoming restaurant food is delicious desserts are amazing one of our all-time favorite restaurants
The service was quite good, the wait for food i thought was a little too long, but evidently the Sunday brunch crowd overwhelms the kitchens staff.
Food was good but options very limited. Very noisy room. Not good for a date.
Had an enjoyable dinner at the Blue Pig Tavern on Saturday night. Cozy room, casual vibe, and comfort food. Dined on delicious deviled eggs, lump crab cake, salmon and house made apple pie for dessert. Pre-dinner drinks were mixed perfectly. Will return!
Most of the experience was great; however the waiter never asked us about refills for our drinks and something was not working correctly on the fireplace so the smoke kept blowing in our faces
The atmosphere was very nice with the fireplace lite. The room aloud patrons to converse without speaking loud to hear each other. So that was a plus. Food was delicious and service was great. The only complaint was the dessert that went with the special $22 plate. It was extremely dry and texture felt like it was just an old cake not fresh. I have this plate before and the dessert was still up
to their high standards. Disappointing dessert. However it was a very nice birthday celebration.
Great breakfast. Something for everyone. My eggs were cooked perfectly. Always enjoy a place that serves Taylor Ham. The waffles were decadent. Andrea our server was great.
Great place for dinner. Food is very good. Cozy and warm on a rainy, cool day. Meatloaf was delicious. Always save room for the dessert. Micquela was our server. So friendly and nice. Never missed a beat. We actually had her as a server the night before when we stop in for dessert. Crème brulee and salted caramel sundae were so yummy.
The Blue Pig is fantastic whether with clients, family or flying solo. The service was attentive and friendly and you can't beat that fireplace. The cedar planked Scottish salmon I ordered tonight might be the best dish I've ever had there. Wish I had room for dessert!
The food was good but the service was very slow. Took ten minutes to even order our first drink. The rest of the meal was good. Ill give them another chance. Ive heard good things.
Love the bolognese every time! I recommend you call for reservations.
Wonderful service and excellent meal! Delicious cocktails! Appreciate attention to detail and attentive service
We went for the $35 deal so basically we got 1 meal for free. Hubby had crab cake which was awesome but cold. I had steak and crab cake and steak was tough. Drinks pricey although common in CM. By the time we added on drinks and appetizer was close to $100 so not much of a deal. Our server Shawn was absolutely awesome!!!! Not a meal you would say “wow” and go back for.
