The Blue Fish Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We went for the Sunday Brunch. Outstanding! Great menu choices and a small buffet on the bar with excellent accompaniments. Service was professional and friendly. Moderate price and a value considering the quality. Spacious table seating. Best seating is at the window to watch the Avondale people traffic. Would strongly recommend and we will be back often.
Wow! Loved the fresh catch options. The Old Bay Mixed Grill (fish, scallops, and shrimp) was phenomenal, as was the blackened snapper with lump crab, served over a bed of red beans and rice that was velvety smooth and jazzed with just the right amount of Cajun seasoning and heat. They also have an impressive wine list and a delightful dessert menu. We will definitely be back!
We ate at Blue Fish before the symphony and Austin provided outstanding service. Our seafood was delicious including the gumbo and oysters on the half shell which started our meal. Wine list remains very reasonably priced which is a big plus for us.. The only disappointment was the behavior of the 3 young ladies at the hostess stand when I arrived. They were not very welcoming or helpful and although there were several tables in the main dining room, seated us near the door by the busy stairs leading to the second floor. After the couple at the table next to us left, I asked to move to that table and they grudgingly relented, "after the table was cleaned off" which they did not facilitate. Finally, we sat ourselves down 10 minutes later after the table was cleared and things significantly improved from there. If we hadn't had numerous excellent experiences at Blue Fish in the past, we might have left the restaurant to go elsewhere. But we will be back because of the food and service.....after being seated.
We haven’t eaten at Blue Fish in several years. We were headed to a concert nearby, after dinner. Our reservation was booked for convenience. It turned out to be even better than we anticipated!
Our dinner companion ordered two appetizers as his dinner/appetizer. His first dish was oysters, prepared two ways. He said they were excellent. His second selection was scallops finished with a rich butter sauce. Once again, he really enjoyed those.
My husband and I ordered two fresh fish preparations. We shared flounder with a butter pecan crust and snapper with a crab meat and feta cheese topping. They were both prepared perfectly! While my husband preferred the flounder, I could never make up my mind which was best. I would order either one again, in a heartbeat! Our server was very cordial and attentive, without being overbearing in the least. It was a very pleasant meal. When we are anywhere near the neighborhood again, we will be visiting Blue Fish to try out some of the other interesting sounding menu items.
The food is really tasty! It's mainly seafood-oriented (as the name implies) so I can't speak to other menu items, but I've been here a few times and gotten the fresh catch prepared a few ways, very good! Service could be a bit faster but overall no complaints - quality restaurant at a reasonable price!
I had high expectations based on previous reviews and chose this restaurant because it was romantic.
We were there on Dec 31st at 5pm and the overall ambiance was less romantic and more of a bar vibe, with the game on and patrons having a good time.
The staff were very friendly and polite.
The ceviche was well balanced and flavorful.
The oysters were good and I was very impressed by how quickly the chef shucked them!
The Crescent City with Snapper, was unfortunately one note and I guess it needed to be a little more acidic and hot for my taste.
The desert was cheesecake brownie, but it tasted like a store-bought brownie with ice cream.
My wife and I had an early New Year's Eve dinner at the Blue Fish. This was our first visit and parking was easy. The restaurant seating area is relatively small, but has a nice patio for use in better weather. We were given a table next to an indoor pool that was quite cold and asked to be moved to a warmer location. We were given a table for two that was quite small, but adequate if you kept dishes to a minimum. We both had the crab bisque which was without doubt, the best crab bisque we have ever had. The biscuits served with the soup were also excellent. The main courses of crab stuffed lobster and prime rib were both above average and well prepared. Fresh sides of potatoes and seasonal vegetables were complementary to the meal. Too full for dessert, but the menu was appetizing. The Blue Fish represents very good value for the quality of service and food received. The bar is nice, but otherwise the ambiance was average at best.
We were very impressed with this restaurant. Our water was very knowledgeable and helpful. The food was simply incredible. We were a party of 8 with different seafood choices - all WONDERFUL. The dessert choices were equally as impressive. YUM! Will go again if in Jacksonville!
Had to change tables due to initial seating was to small to hold the food and wine ordered. Waitress was nice and attentive but did not know what a Manhattan was and did not know how to use her wine key. I had to open the bottle of wine. Second table was way in the back near a party of 10 plus. Could not hear ourselves talk until they left. Food was decent but nothing to write home about. Given all the choices in Jax area suggest you go elsewhere...
My work group suggest this place for our Christmas luncheon and gift exchange. The service was lousy, the waitress slow and the food left a lot to be desired. The ambiance was not bad, but do to the lackadaisical service, I will not be back. The are other surrounding restaurants that give better service and have much better food quality.
Bit busy, but it was a Friday night. Our server, Katie, was busy, but very friendly and informed us about the specials. The crab bisque was excellent. I had the stuffed trout and my wife had her shrimp and scallops over macaroni and cheese. Both dishes were well prepared and full of flavor. The stuffed trout tasted even better the next day for lunch. Going back up in February and will go back to this restaurant for dinner again..
Waiter Paul was fabulous, friendly, professional and attentive, just the right amount.
Our first time there was Thanksgiving, so, likely not the usual atmosphere or crowd.
Went with the Thanksgiving buffet, nothing fancy but good. The two of us enjoyed it.
Worth the drive for a holiday meal. For a higher priced menu and upscale area with a
reservation, was surprisingly more kid/family-friendly and loud vs. intimate/date-type atmosphere. Great place for larger groups, families and those wanting a seat at the bar.
Great buffet for Thanksgiving! There were a variety of main dish choices including the usual Turkey and ham. the sides were great , including one of the best versions of cornbread dressing I have had. Service was good foe a buffet meal. we had a great meal and will definitely go again on a holiday.
We chose to dine out because there were only three of us. We lowered our expectations because how can you compare a restaurant Thanksgiving meal to a homemade one...well...we were very pleasantly surprised! There was a good variety of traditional Thanksgiving dishes and a couple of non-traditional as well. It was all good but our favorites were the baked mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, roast turkey Gravy and the macaroni and cheese...Very Good! If we choose to dine out for Thanksgiving next year, we will definitely go back to the Blue Fish.
Four of us had dinner at an outdoor table with a heater. Grace provided outstanding service and we all agreed that our meals were exceptional, as usual. Two got the Mojo fish preparation with cod and the other 2 chose the blackened fish with crab. The fish chowder and fried calamari were enjoyed prior to the entrees. We like the option of ordering a small size entree which enables room for an appetizer or dessert. Happy hour wines for $4 and wine bottles starting at $25 are a very good value to compliment the meal.
