Where do I start? My sales associate's babysitter backed out on her so she brought her 18 month old daughter to dinner. Our waiter Sonny was SO patient, attentive, absolutely the BEST waitor I have ever had. This little girl was tired and hungry, so Sonny brought her food out first, gave us a plastic cup with lid for the little girl, gave her attention and treated her like a person. He was wonderful!
And our food was delicious- chefs know how to hit it out of the park. My Lemon Caper Cod melted in my mouth, and their mac n cheese... holy moly! The valet attendant was also patient while my sales associate put her wiggly young girl in her car. This is my 4th time in 2 months visiting here. With my food allergies, it is important to have good food that won't make me sick. This place is my go-to from here on out as my top choice to eat. Kudos to the staff, but especially Sonny. Well done, sir, you set the "How to be a Great Waiter" bar extremely high! Thank you!
My wife and I are big sea food fans. Oysters Rockefeller appetizer was excellent. Our server suggested calamari. To me, calamari seems to be a tough dish to make because it’s invariably rubbery or fried beyond recognition. Calamari was perfect- Reminded me why I used to order it. I had Mahi for my main and the wife had snapper both very good. Could not have been happier- great fun at Blue Fish.
I just took my sister to the Blue Fish Restaurant and had been bragging about the Blackened Snapper I had recently had there. I must say it lived up to our expectations again. We also tried the Oysters Casino which were excellent. The seating was prompt and the server was very attentive but not invasive. I look forward to my next meal there.
I was in town and passing through and someone recommended this restaurant. I started with an oyster appetizer. But the real treat was the entree. I have the shrimp and scallops with the mac & cheese delicious it's such a big dish I wish I only ordered that and not an appetizer!
This was our first time here but will certainly not be the last. Everything from the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer to the incredible Flounder special to the ridiculous Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie was truly a delight! Our server Grace made the night most enjoyable by being so personal.
This place is not to be missed!
Ate here for Mother's day as a party of 5 adults. Food ranged from good to excellent. The specials included an oyster sampler which was excellent. My companions also had an excellent baked brie. My tuna steak was excellent, sliced and positioned on a bed of rice in a complementary sauce, topped with tempura coated asparagus, and accompanied by a pat of wasabi. The snapper was described as OK, the jambalaya as very good, the chicken as very good, and the shrimp as excellent, so a bit of a mixed bag for the table's opinions. The cheesecake brownie dessert was excellent. Service and ambiance were outstanding. We've eaten here a couple of times before and found the inside seating to be a bit noisy. This time we were seated outside in the restaurant's atrium. The only complaint about the experience was that the restaurant needs to fix its outdoor tables, where ours was flaking bits of black paint (sticking to your arm if you rested it on the table). All in all we had a very fine meal and a great Mother's day experience.
We were seated about 15 minutes after our reservation time even though the restaurant was not crowded at the time we arrived. The wait service was just a little service as was the time to get our drinks and food. The food was great except the grilled scallops could have been cooked just a bit more. Overall the atmosphere was good and the other food was great.
We LOVE Blue Fish but don't get there often. This time we met friends there for a Mother's Day (and pre-concert) dinner. It was nearly empty when we arrived (at 5:30) but filled up quickly. We were in the outdoor back patio and it never got too loud for my husband, who wears hearing aids and is sensitive to ambient noise.
We had wonderful fresh northern oysters (raw), Swordfish, Mahi, and Grouper . All were very tasty with nice sides. Not enough room for dessert!
Our server, while somewhat swamped as the crowd grew, was great - we were very pleased.
We were not aware the Mother’s Day menu consisted of a buffet only. The food was similar to what you’d find at a hotel offering a buffeted breakfast. Cost for four was 170.00. We were a bit disappointed.
Food was good. We waited a long time for our dinner.
Everything was very good. Not very busy as it was a sunday.
Great service & food
The food was delicious and service was great.
Definitely one of the best places in Jacksonville to eat seafood with a good atmosphere and knowledgeable staff .
I have eaten here many times and love their fish but last Saturday was another story. The waitress spent her whole time saying how sorry she was for: bringing the wrong wine, serving my appetizer first and then waiting for my husbands for another 15 minutes. Receiving our entrees while we were still eating our appetizers and then when brought back, came back cold and overcooked. The manager apologized but it really wasn't a good experience. He offered to bring us the second glass of wine which we had ordered about 15 minutes before that and brought the wrong wine again. He apologized and gave me a gift certificate but not sure I will run over unless things change. Oh, and I didn't mention the table of people who were extremely loud outside who began a fist fight for some reason. They were stopped but in this age where everyone needs a gun to settle things, it was frightening.
Went on a Friday night. The service was outstanding and the food was good. We were a little disappointed with the poke bowl however and the herb crusted fish we ordered. The fish was somewhat bland and lacking on the "herb crust". The poke bowl contained no avocado, as like places serve, which we of course didn't realize until after it came out. Please consider adding!!!!!!
Felt bad for the wait staff. A loud and slightly obnoxious group of people were seated in the back where we were. Their extremely loud conversation ruined everyone else's dining experience in the room, including ours. Some people got up and left, others asked to be moved.
No doubt the other servers lost money on those empty tables.
Not the restaurant's fault. Some people need to either learn to be more considerate when dining out, book a private room or stay home and have a party if they can't do either of those.
All that being said, I would recommend Blue Fish. Good food, friendly staff and a fun place.
The hostess went above and beyond to be helpful and to be sure we were seated at a table we liked. The waitress made excellent suggestions and was well versed with the menu, answering all our questions clearly and completely so we could make great choices. The food was delicious, perfect temperature and served timely. The atmosphere was energized with tables all around. If you want a quiet place away from people, this is not the place to be on a Friday night :-)
Lot's of great seafood choices and a broad menu that allows for a variety of flavors and food preferences. Comparably priced to restaurants in the area. Overall a superb experience!
We enjoyed our entire evening out at The Blue Fish. Our waiter was absolutely fabulous as was our meal. We will be sure to return soon!!
Food was excellent!
Very limited valet parking. Excellent food and wait staff
Nice restaurant with lots of outdoor seating both front and back. Highly recommend the mac and cheese with shrimp and scallops.
Oyster selection was excellent and fish flaky & delicious. Servers were a bit timid but cheerful, led to some awkward moments when they didn't understand our desire for additional time or that they were interrupting conversation. On the whole a great experience in a beautiful neighborhood.
The Blue Fish offers several fresh catch fish to choose from then allows you to select from quite a few preparation options. I chose the Trigger Fish and had it blackened. It was outstanding. One of the best fish entrees I’ve ever had. There were 5 of us and everyone raved over the meal from the beginning — which included calamari with a Thai sauce and oysters on the half shell — to each of our meals. Totally awesome.
Had the black and white tuna. Perfectly cooked, although the soba noodles were all stuck together and the soy based sauce was overly salty. The special salmon entry was good but certainly nothing special. Risotto was more like soupy rice. Not creamy. Wait service very good.
Excellent, went for Easter dinner, we will be returning. Highly recommend to anyone who has not tried the blue fish yet. You will not be disappointed.
Have been to this restaurant before w/o issues but on Easter Blue Fish operations completely fell apart. My Benedict dish was stone cold as well as my mothers, the 10 minute redo turned into 30 minutes & 2nd Benedict dish had no sauce & eggs were hard boiled. My cousins finished dish was unclear the entire meal! Drinks were deposited on the corner of the table & we had to distribute them ourselves. We did get 2 meals taken off the bill but even then the manager didn't clear the plate. Will not be going back anytime soon.
We came for Easter brunch and they had a wonderful buffet set up along with some delicious brunch options.
Excellent seafood in a great Jacksonville neighborhood.
Great service and beautiful restaurant. Thank you Sam for taking care of us
Blue Fish is our favorite brunch spot in Jacksonville! We take all of our out of town guests there anytime we have a chance. The outdoor courtyard in the back is perfect and we especially enjoy taking our dog with us when we plan to sit outside!
For the first time I was disappointed in Blue Fish. We dine there about 5 times each year, and the food is always excellent/outstanding. This time, however, our meal took 45 minutes to
serve the 6 of us. Our server did not know about gluten free options and had to ask about
salad dressings and entrees. Then our bills were mixed up (I paid for our friends' meals).
We'll go again, because the food is terrific, but we were disappointed with this visit, especially
the service time.
Large party with kids during lent......and it went without a hitch!
A restaurant that we always try to visit when we are in Jacksonville. Great seafood and service.
The staff was very helpful and explanatory. The food was great. We got in a little late so they were obviously closing soon, but when they were with us, you couldn’t ask for better service. I enjoyed it very much. The options are very unique and original.
We have been to Blue Fish on numerous occasions driving up 30 miles from St. Augustine to Avondale. It is the kind of restaurant where you can make a last minute decision to go out to eat and know that the experience will be great and worth the drive. The food is terrific and imaginative and the service is outstanding
We almost always sit outside in the front of the restaurant There is outside dining in back but sitting on the mainstreet in this small city is the best.
We came for the oysters !between the party of 5, we had raw , Rockefeller and casino .., all are yummy ... we also ordered the calamari abs soft shell crab with drinks .. sat near the open front patio , perfect for the beautiful weather
Very nice place. The service was a little slow, which was not understandable due to the place not being very busy, but our server was nice and the food was wonderful! We will definitely be back when we are in town.
Service is always hit or miss here. Took forever for bottle of wine to arrive at the table - actually oysters arrived before. Then when the oysters were dropped off there was no explanation of what was what (2 of each). Server didn't remove crackers and other stuff on table and due to table being a small 2 person table, we had stuff everywhere. Just not the attention to detail that you expect or know from other places in the neighborhood. I'll go back but I always expect slow service here.
Baked oyster appetizer was delicious
My herb crusted fish entrée was not herb crusted and rather bland
My wife's shrimp and scallop mac and cheese entrée wasn't cheesy at all although the seafood was great.
