We had our anniversary dinner here and the total experience from the casual chic ambiance, to the food to the extremely friendly service was outstanding! Made our occasion even more special! Thank you Blue Fish!
The fresh catch is always a favorite. The choices of preparations are awesome - and all delicious!
We were seated at a table along with windows overlooking St. Johns Ave, just as requested. We needed very efficient service to get us to the symphony on time and our server, Austin, made sure that we got it. We both had a cup of the crab bisque to start; for our entrees, I had the curry stir fry with black grouper and my husband had the blackened trigger fish with lump crab. All was delicious, as usual.
We can always count on good food and setting at the Blue Fish. Haley was so friendly and accommodating. We had the special and loved the trout. We had great service and wasn’t rush.
Ive made another reservation for December 21 fir 10 for dinner. Christmas celebration.
Picked this restaurant for a business dinner based on the location and reviews from other Open Table members. Overall experience was nice and server was great, but I was disappointed in a couple of the dishes as they didn't meet expectation.
Started off with a couple of the delicious special cocktails and a pairing of 3 types of raw oysters. Great selection, fresh and quite tasty. Served with expected sides of crackers, horseradish and cocktail sauce. Also ordered an appetizer of the coconut shrimp, but I subbed the regular fried shrimp, as this is one of my favorite dishes and I like to compare different versions as I travel up and down the east coast. And supposedly the restaurant is known for their fried shrimp. They were good - but they didn't seem to be seasoned quite as much as I would have preferred. Remember, food that comes from the ocean still requires salt in preparation. ;-) Breading was very light and a mixture of white flour/corn meal as it should be with fried shrimp. Overall they were nice, just not much flavor.
Entrees took a while to be served after the appetizer course. One signature dish of Seared Scallops and Shrimp over White Cheddar Mac and Cheese had under cooked scallops though they were nicely caramelized on the outside. Asparagus was not properly prepped before cooking and didn't have the field ends removed - looked straight out of the package. Another dish of a fresh fish selection served Lemon and Caper style was raw in the middle and had to be sent back. Wasn't able to finish this dish even after it was returned from the kitchen. Yet another fresh fish dish requested with sauce on the side was served with the sauce on the entree.
Love the atmosphere of this place and the location and would considering a second chance when back in Jacksonville on business, but would probably opt for a different restaurant hoping for better luck.
The seafood was delicious and very fresh. The doors were open so it was as if we were sitting outside .. very nice ambiance.
Had a great buffet for the holiday! Goods services.
Thanksgiving buffet. Each dish we tried was great. Probably the most tender ham I’ve ever had. The service was top notch. Thank you Jessica!
As always the food was great and fresh. The oysters are my favorite.
Headed to Blue Fish after the Riverside Wine festival. The whole fried snapper was crispy and moist. The Malpeque Oysters were large, briny and sweet. They also have an abundant wine by the glass menu.
Had a good and knowledgeable waiter, Austin. There is a long wait for food but they do have a Happy Hour so we enjoyed cocktails while waiting. They also have a small plate option which our friends really liked.
Great service and amazing brunch!
We drive a good distance to eat at The Blue Fish- We love the Sunday Brunch. Friendly wait staff . Food delish
I reserved a table for 6:30, drove around for five minutes looking for parking, and got there at probably 6:40, at which point the hostess went to "find us a table". We should have walked out.
We had requested an indoor table. We were seated outside. Things were busy and I'm not one to be unreasonable, so we sat down.
I will say our server was excellent.... Attentive, efficient, professional.
Mind you, we sat down at about 6:45. Our server took our order promptly. And we waited... and waited...
Our food arrived at about 7:35.
Mind you, the food was quite good. The flounder was perfectly fried, not greasy. The fries were good. My wife said her veggies were cooked to perfection. But 50 minutes?
Happy Hour at Blue Fish is definitely happy! My husband and I shared a variety of small plates. Everything was delicious. The Wellfleet oyster were particularly wonderful. We will make the trip from Amelia Island again.
Excellent service (Jenni); however, the food took a while to come out especially since we were at lunch!
Wonderful experience. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about the fish and preparation pairings, which made our entrée selections fantastic. Would recommend to any one.
The perfect neighborhood spot! Great for a dinner for two or friends and family of ten. Very LGBTQ friendly. Great people watching from the sidewalk tables to lively indoor dinning to a romantic courtyard.
Delicious, fresh, great drinks and great atmosphere.
The seafood selections and the overall quality of the fish continue to improve. Can’t beat the fresh local fish they feature with multiple preparations. On most recent visit, we both had small plates of the triggerfish, one was grilled with butte blanc sauce and the other grilled with lemon and capers. Delicious!
The FL Gulf tripletail was perfectly cooked, retaining delicacy & natural moisture. The lemon caper prep was suitably discreet. Same with the LIGHTLY breaded fried shrimp. Atlantic Coast oyster assortment was excellent and very fresh—nice and salty. The server had a very good command of menu items and was sensitive to the timing of the courses—a rarity. The wine selection was good and very reasonable if not distinguished. I highly recommend it.
The bluefish is the best restaurant to hit in the Avondale area. It is my preferred seafood restaurant in all of Jacksonville with tremendous craft cocktails, great oysters, and always the freshest seafood. This is a sure hit spot if you want to entertain business clients or for a family outing.
We were disappointed in Blue Fish for the first time. We frequent the restaurant about 4 times a year since 2008. The server had no idea about gluten-free options. My gluten-free partner ordered swordfish, but it came out as snapper. It was not very tasty. The others in our party were pleased with their meals. The server was in a hurry to get us out of there, so our plates were cleared before everyone was finished.
The food was delicious & the service was just as wonderful. Love the ambiance & laid back atmosphere at the Blue Fish Restaurant.
Food very well prepared. Good drinks. Service was a little slow. Over all a nice evening.
The food selection was great. They had a lot of different choices for seafood lovers.
Had dinner for 4 Saturday night. The food was delicious and the drinks were divine. I will definitely put this on my list of places to go for a terrific meal.
STAY AWAY. Don't waste your money. I had heard such high reviews and recommendations about this place but I have never been so disappointed in my life.
FAIL: Our bottomless mimosas were quite heavy on the OJ so we requested a little more bubbly be added. This was not possible because they pre-mix their mimosas in the morning with 1 part OJ frozen CONCENTRATE (you know the can in the store that says dilute) with 2 parts bubbly. YUCK! Instead we were told we needed to purchase a bottle of prosecco and use the mimosas on our table to mix with the bottle we purchased.
FAIL: Known for their seafood/ raw bar I ordered a dozen oysters, They were delivered by a young lady in a skirt and tank top. They were stacked on top of each other and SO dirty I couldn't eat them and my white napkin was no longer white. The waitress agreed and asked the manager to come out. Much to my surprise the young lady who delivered them was the manager and came out and was like "hi, did you need me?" (you would think if the waitress is asking you to go to the table you would know why "I needed you"). I politely asked her did she look at the oysters before she delivered them? Her response was simply "No". Shouldn't the managers be for sure checking food before they run it to the tables?? I showed her my napkin and she agreed it was disgusting.
HIGHLIGHT: The highlight was the kind, prompt, yet drunken waitress. Yes this was the highlight (we didn't realize this would be the highlight till we experienced the rest of brunch) - she always kept our glasses full and provided decent service (despite having to pull up a chair from a vacant table and sit down to take our order). Based on our experience it was clear the issue was not the waitress but rather no reinforcement/ standards from management. We wanted to be drunk and couldn't because of the terrible mimosas so we don't blame her one bit!!!
Service was terrible. I had a birthday dinner for my fiancé. I was a party of like 15. Our waitress was very slow, she wasn’t familiar with the menu. She kept telling us something camw with the dish and when it came out it was something different on the plate. All she cared about was alcohol all she kept asking was if we wanted another drink. We had to ask for our checks like 7 times. The food was bland and not seasoned.
They need to get back to basics. The menu is way overstocked which is why there is no way for each dish to be at it’s best quality. Simplify and refine the best items. Keep some of the basics that you can not get at any restaurants close and then do a few specials. There are few quality restaurants in the area that can compete with the boiled/steamed/raw seafood options such as oysters, crab, lobster, shrimp. I feel if the seafood is truly high quality and the kitchen meticulous having some excellent sushi is a great appetizer option. The few restaurants competing in this arena are high end steak houses which is the void this place could fill. I do like the two size plate options. Our service, cocktails and wine where wonderful! The bright open feel to the place is nice and when the weather cools down the courtyard is superb. It is time to freshen up the main dining room. Off street valet is gold in this busy area.
Our book club met here for happy hour upstairs and had a great time! Amazing food, drinks, and service!
When we first got there they seated us in a section when no one else was sitting not quite sure why they did that when there were tables out front so I had to suggest a different table but overall the service was okay
The weather is just right to enjoy the outside dining area in the back of the Blue Fin. Our waitress was a delight and most helpful putting together our menu for for tonight. The deep fried goat cheese salad is scrumptious. Our mixed grill with locally caught triple tail with their Mac & cheese and mixed grilled veggies is even better.
Service was great but slow going. Brandon is a true professional. Everyone loved their meals
They have an awesome amount of dinner options. Something for everyone. Great wine choices, 2 level indoor seating and a beautiful courtyard for outdoor dining. Service and food was excellent and prices were on target for the portion size you receive. We really enjoyed everything about our experience at Blue fish!
From start (cocktails and appetizer) to finish (dessert), all was excellent. If you're into seafood, this is the place.
Our meal was excellent. Our service was very good. I would have preferred a cozier environment, my wife and I are more amenable to a little more distance between tables. Parking was awful, we had to park a couple blocks away. The walk was not bad though.
We went for a double birthday celebration. Our server, Sonny, was awesome. Great service all evening. The food was outstanding. Great oysters, appetizers, and main course. Can’t wait to go there again!
Restaurant had a very strong fish smell
Brandon was our service and did a wonderful job respecting our pace at dinner. Always there when needed and never intrusive.
