The Blue Fish Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Four of us had dinner at an outdoor table with a heater. Grace provided outstanding service and we all agreed that our meals were exceptional, as usual. Two got the Mojo fish preparation with cod and the other 2 chose the blackened fish with crab. The fish chowder and fried calamari were enjoyed prior to the entrees. We like the option of ordering a small size entree which enables room for an appetizer or dessert. Happy hour wines for $4 and wine bottles starting at $25 are a very good value to compliment the meal.
Blue Fish was okay. I don't have any complaints, but I don't think I'll be back. There are restaurants on my side of town that offer as good a menu or better, a quieter atmosphere, and at least as much value for the cost. The service was excellent, and our lunch came out quickly.
My only disappointment is that they ask is this a special occasion. We stated yes a anniversary celebration on the reservation. Yet there was absolutely nothing done nor and mention of happy anniversary. So I don't know why they even asked if this is a special occasion. This was 16 years of marriage celebration and there was never a mention of even a free cup of coffee. So why do they mention it? It is one of our top favorite restaurants in Jacksonville but that was a mistake on the anniversary.
We sat at the bar for Happy Hour (had wonderful oysters and fried mushrooms) with reduced pricing on drinks. Wine choices were a bit limited. I like Sav Blanc and the one choice they had was just ok. Food was good though. Then we moved to a table for dinner. One of us had the Whole Trout. Very tasty but difficult to eat. I had a side caesar salad that was large and delicoous. Overall, very nice experience and would recommend it!
We had the eggs benidict flight with a fried green tomato, shrimp and crab and of course the original.
Everything was cooked to perfection! The eggs were soft,, runny and decadent!
The fried green tomato was tart, crunchy and well seasoned.
The cookery on the fried shrimp was Five Star perfect!
Our server (Mark) was attentive, informative and never let my mimosa run dry!
My only knock was our table, in a mostly empty restaurant we were sat at a 2 top next to a staircase that had people going up and down constantly for a party they were having.
If our table had been better this experience would have been 100%!
Arrived early for 7:00 reservation. Checked in with hostess. Sat in waiting area. 10 minutes later same hostess asked if we are waiting for table. Had no clue who we were. Then, said all that was available was outside. We were seated and my wife’s chair was wet and got on her clothes. Then, we realized we were surrounded by smokers. We were literally sitting in a smoke fog. We got up and left without eating. Poorly organized and unfriendly.
I feel bad giving them this rating because we went on Labor Day . There were only 3 tables so we got there at a good time. As business picked up the servers were running around. There were only 2! And they were also playing bartender. We ordered oysters and those were good but our entrees were flavorless. I'm all about second chances so we will try going again but they kind of dropped the ball on this one.
Food & Service were good, however, I made a reservation 1 week in advance (for 2) and no tables were available except in the far back of the restaurant. I would've happily waited for a better table but was not given the option. I expect a table in the front part of the dining area when I make a reservation or at least the option to wait for a better table.
I love oysters, and was pointed to the special of the night, which was the Wiley Point and Irish point, we are on a budget, and was never pointed out that these oysters were 35$ a dozen, we got 3 dozen which was over 100$ in just oysters.
I would have been happy with the dozen local that I was going to get, very unfortunate that our bill for 3 ended up being 203.25. We were never asked if we wanted dinner, I guess that was good, so all in all it took the wind out of my sails.
Food was good but the experience turned us off, and probably wont go back because of it.
The sound level was perfect if you wanted a loud, rowdy, energetic happy hour experience. However, we went at 6.30 PM for a birthday dinner out, and the noise level made it nearly impossible to carry on a conversation. Great server; great food; the ambience was a big disappointment.
My $12.00 appetizer consisted of 6 oysters each the size of a nickel. Poor value and would not order oysters here again. My entree was well prepared. My perception of decreasing value at this restraint is based on the above appetizer that was presented to me.
We had an anniversary dinner at Blue Fish this week. Made a reservation through Open Table and also ordered a floral bouquet with it for delivery to our table for our 6:30 reservation. The restaurant called at 5:45 to say that the bouquet hadn't been delivered as yet, worry, worry. But, it was there when we arrived. Very good service on the part of Blue Fish. The food and service were excellent, the atmosphere pleasant, and we had a very enjoyable "special" meal.
THE SERVER WAS VERY FRIENDLY. DIDN'T LIKE SITTING BY THE DOOR BUT OVERALL A NICE TIME BY ALL. THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD. MADE A RESERVATION BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP WITH WHERE WE WERE PLACED. TOOK QUITE A WHILE TO GET OUR FOOD BUT WE WERE WITH FRIENDS SO IT DIDN'T MATTER TOO MUCH. IF YOU WERE IN A HURRY NOT THE PLACE TO GO.
The food was very good, and all four in our party (men and women) agreed that the smaller portion is very adequate when paired with a salad or soup. There was an excellent variety of fish available, and nine different ways it could be prepared. I had the mixed grill which included 4 oz of fish (which the waiter allowed me to choose rather than the menu-stated "chef's choice"), four decent-size shrimp, and two of the largest scallops I have ever eaten. Two others had fresh fish, one blackened, and another with lemon and capers. The fourth diner in our party had mahi French Quarter, which puts fried shrimp, clams, and mussels on top of 8 oz of grilled fish. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. The waiter was very knowledgeable, but overall the service was quite slow. It seemed to be intentional where the restaurant expects the meal to take a couple of hours. We didn't really mind, but it was slower than we expected. We will definitely return.
The last time I visited Blue Fish was for a birthday celebration for my female friend. The food and the service was exceptional to say the least and by calling ahead and making a reservation with the birthday girls' name, her name was added to the marquee at the entrance of the restaurant, with birthday wishes. However, I thought that a small complementary birthday desert would have been offered for the occasion. That I felt would be a very nice gesture and befitting the evening as well. No worries, I still had a great time.
Lovely storefront in beautiful Historic Jacksonville neighborhood. Delicious, fresh seafood is the focus here and the pricing was very reasonable. They have a nice option of a smaller portion or a larger portion of the fish entrees which allows tasting of other dishes on the menu. It was fairly active as we had dinner at around 6:30 on a weekday and the bar and the restaurant were full. This was a very nice treat for my daughter and I on our visit to JAX.
Service was great and we enjoyed sitting outside. The starters were delicious - the calamari was cooked to perfection. The scallops were also fantastic.
Unfortunately both the fish entrees (swordfish and halibut) were very overcooked - the fish was dry and flaky.
