The Blue Fish - Bayou
Slow lack luster staff, not knowledgeable about menu or saki. The food is over priced for the quality. You are paying for location.
The food is always fresh and delicious! We tried the stuffed jalapeños and they were amazing! The fresh Yellowfin Belly is one of our faves! The drinks are always well balanced and not too sweet. We sat on the patio and it was nice to people watch since there was a concert next door. Overall, we enjoyed our date and will be coming back soon!
The menu was complicated, especially the single sheet handout, but the waiter was VERY helpful. We ended up asking his recommendations on several items and he was spot on. Also a great location — we love downtowns. Prices were reasonable. We even had desserts which were great. Again, his recommendations.
Miguel our waiter was wonderful and enjoyed my lunch.
Blue Fish was delightful, as always! The noise level was low because it was Sunday noontime, so there were not many people in the restaurant...
The staff was very attentive. Good sushi and tempura. My wife’s chicken teriyaki was also very good. They give you an order sheet and pencil to use in ordering your sushi, which I always find to be convenient. Overall, very good.
Love the salmon entree and my husband loves the sushi. Great service and finished in plenty of time to walk across the street for our Sunday matinee at the Alley Theatre. Highly recommend!!
Great place to meet friends before the theater or ballet,
Overpriced because of location. Not the worst sushi I’ve ever had, but below average. Priced like much better sushi restaurants.
I love the sushi and fried soft shell blue crab. This is great place to dine before going to a concert or show.
We had a very nice experience at The Blue Fish. Plan to go there again.
Food and service was great but Bathrooms were in bad shape for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Good sushi. Rainforest roll was the bomb. Wife got the poke bowl.
Nothing to really write about. Dishes were generally good but the Blue Fish Trio of sushi was a little disappointing due to the size of the serving. Last we had this the pieces were about twice the size of what was served this time.
Ahi Tower great as ever. Salmon sashimi was good, but not outstanding; usually rich and wonderful, but fish was off this time. Veggie tempura outstanding. Our waiter was very efficient and polite. We will be back.
Server was nice but wasn't attentive. Food was just meh outside of the tempora and unagi. Sushi was grey; not appealing. Wasabi from a tube. Not sure why this place is rated that high.
Overall amazing experience. The food was amazing and the ahi tower is a must try!
We visit blue fish downtown Houston many times throughout the year. This one stands out because the food was not up to the standard they previously set for themselves. Also, the service was a bit slow considering that the restaurant was not full and there were not many activities downtown that day. I'm hoping this was a one-off situation.
Good place for a pre theater event. Quality sushi, attentive service and a nice atmosphere made this an experience we will repeat again
Food and martinis were good. The waiter was pleasant and appeared desirous to please, but he was a very poor listener. As a result, he confused many details and was not responsive to dimple requests. Perhaps he was just inexperienced.
Great place to go before a show! Great food and drinks!
Guy was rude when we first arrived. He seemed like he didn't want to be there. When someone has a crappy attitude, maybe don't make them the host.
The food is always consistently good and the service tonight was quicker and better than usual.
Great outing before event at Bayou Place.
LOVE LOVE LOVE THE SUSHI! I forgot how great this place was. We were there during pride and I was worried services would be slow. But they were quick and food was fantastic!
Great food, we have been going here for yrs and are on the loyalty program. The perks have gone down with that however, it used to include a credit for some of the valet parking ( no more). Also, the prices on the sushi rolls keep going up but the size of the rolls seems to be shrinking?? The Rainforest is our favorite, It used to be thick and loaded with great ingredients; with plenty of great sauce. Now it's a bit skimpy and barely any sauce, but the price keeps going up. I am on a special diet (basically no carbs) so I had the tuna salad $22.00, NEVER AGAIN! it was barely 1 cup of uninteresting greens and 4 thin slices of seared Tuna on top, I felt robbed!!. I had just the side salad $8.00 another time, and it had more greens and it had a variety of greens, pecans, then just ordered the South Beach roll at $13.95, much better value! We have been coming to the theater district for 32 yrs straight with season tickets to Alley, Ballet, Opera and Jones Hall, you have been out GO TO place for years. Please don't make us change our minds!
If you like good sushi, stay away from this place. The quality and cut of the fish is very bad. The ventilation is also bad. You smell like grease when you leave. If you live in Houston and want good sushi, go to Soma Sushi on Washington.
There is a great variety of food, also vegan options, great drinks, food tastes great. Was perfect for a date night.
Love going to this location before or after an event in the Theater District. They have upped their game in the last year or so. Could improve their wine selection with the addition of more interesting varieties.
I really enjoy THE BLUE FISH. The sushi is always fresh, and everything else is consistently good. I normally come here before a show in the theater district - if you plan on that, make a reservation! But I also love to come and take a long dinner with sushi rolls, appetizers and wine flowing. You can sit in or outside, and if you opt for the bar they have a great happy hour. Service has always been very attentive. This place is great!
Efficient service and food was good. Great for a quick business lunch
The service was terrible. I can't imagine what it would have been like had I not made reservations and if it would have been busy.
Our server was courteous and pleasant
A favorite for dinner before or after the theater.
The food here and the presentation is always on point.
Unfortuantely, we arrived late for the reservation, and the restaurant was closing. This is disappointing because I had written in my reservation that we may be late, but I never received a response or warning that the restaurant would soon close after the reservation. I wish there were a better way to correspond with the restaurant when making the reservation in order to assure the hours of operation of the restaurant.
We came for my husbands birthday. When we arrived there was a table of 2 and a group of 3-4 sitting in the bar area. We sat down immediately. Server came over about 10 minutes after we were seated. We ordered our drinks and it took another 15 minutes to get them. The food was mediocre. Nothing great. A party of 2 came in and sat right behind us and after receiving their food one of the men pointed out a long hair in his food. After letting another employee know the server came over about 5 minutes later, took the plate, apologized and that was it. Asked us if we wanted dessert. Which wasn’t happening. I thought it was kind of dirty when we walked in and the hair secured my thought.
The food we had was fabulous! The spicy tuna is a very good level of spicy. We’ve had it other places and was never as spicy. We had it in several different rolls and the spicy tuna tartare tacos. Awesome! The girls went back for desert later that night and said that was amazing too.
Great service, awesome location. we had a great time and fantastic server. We just love this place when we have events at the Wortham, Revention, or other venue in walking distance
