About The Blue Bonnet Restaurant
When a family owned restaurant has been in business for almost 50 years, they must be doing something right. Recently expanded with a beautiful patio, the Blue Bonnet has become an institution in Denver. Handmade chips and salsa, specialty street tacos, fire roasted stuffed poblanos, chimi changas, award-winning margaritas, chile rellenos, pollo adovado, fish tacos, and carnitas are just a few items made from scratch along with many traditional favorites. Locals, tourists, and celebrities line up for some of the freshest and best tasting Mexican food in Denver. Casual atmosphere with friendly service. If you can't go South of the border... at least head South of Alameda. East availability for large parties even on the weekends.

I took my adult daughter for dinner and we both loved the food. It's highly ranked every year on Open Table so we tried it. The chips tasted like they made at the restaurant and the salsa had a nice amount of heat, but not too hot.
I ordered the smothered burrito, which is one of its specialties. I would happily order it again. My daughter ordered enchiladas that she said were delicious. They have outdoor seating if that's your thing. The ambiance was not special, but our waiter was friendly and likable.
The bottom line: I look forward to returning.
The food was pretty good, our waiter was very nice and everything came out of the kitchen timely. My biggest complaint is the table wasn't wiped down well, and 4 out of the 5 chairs were covered in chips. This is a training issue...chairs should be cleaned as well as tables. Under the table was not too clean either. Don't know if I'd go back.
Used to live in Denver and went to The Blue Bonnet now and then. ALWAYS had their crispy chile rellenos, just fantastic. We moved away from Denver about five years ago, but had to go back last week for a short visit. Went back to Blue Bonnet, had the crispy chile rellenos, and they were just as good as we remembered. And the Perfect Margarita was fantastic, too.
This restaurant did an excellent job of taking care of large groups on "Dining Out for Life" during the dinner hour. Everyone had drinks, chips (even gluten-free), and salsa immediately after being seated and then diner orders were taken in a timely manner AND there were no mix-ups in serving a party of 11. The food was generous and gluten-free items were served with everyone else with no waiting by anyone. Individual tickets were given, with no mix-up on orders, and change or charges were promptly given to everyone.
We had a nice time and the food is always great and they are always willing to make adjustments for dietary needs. Waitress was a bit forgetful however very nice and apologetic when she was. Lighting was very dim and difficult to read the side of the menu that was black with colored lettering. Great prices!!
Blue Bonnet has been a staple of the Denver restaurant scene for decades. Their formula is consistent, and it works: decent Tex-Mex at a reasonable price, good service, and a just-plain-folks atmosphere with a hopping bar scene. Service is generally good, as it was on my most recent visit.
I've been a fan for a long time, even though I don't make it in as much as I used to. It's still a destination for me if I know I'll be in south Denver.
The mole was very good. A perfect blend of flavors. The chimis were good and the green Chile sauce had a very good flavor. I found the guacamole good but overpowered by the onions and jalapeños. The margaritas were ok but seemed watery. Not much citrus to them.
