The Block Kitchen and Lounge
Made a large reservation and table was ready fir us when we arrived. They use linen napkins and ambience is lovely. They have decorated the place for the holidays and it is very festive. The waitress was lovely and accommodated our timing as we were heading to the theater after dining. The menu was varied and everyone enjoyed their meal. BTW they offer half priced bottles of wine (under $70) on Wednesdays. Waitress made the dining experience fun and inviting. Will definitely go there again!
I am tired of these surveys. If I like the food, service and value I will return. Every store and service sends these out, I’ve had enough. Don’t ask me again.
Love this place. Food and service are both always on point, whether you’re out for brunch ( have the tomato and spinach Benny) or for late night appies or pizza.
Restaurant area was completely booked for a private party. Had be seated in lounge area Service was spotty due the staff looking after the large party. Food was good
Great little hidden gem! Good food and service. And kids are welcomed :)
Feature fish dish of the day was arctic char- thought it would be fresh. It wasn’t and very dry. Too much oil on wild rice a spaghetti squash. My friend had a steak sandwich. Medium inside and tasty but charred on the outside. I’ve dined here often and it seems the quality of the food is decreasing each time. Too bad as we want to support local restaurants instead of going downtown. Menu items such as pork chop, lamb etc on previous menus taken out and y they were good!
Excellent neighborhood gem. Very nice room. Pasta and arancini spot on.
I had a great spinach omelette and a nice glass of their featured red. The prices are reasonable, our server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The atmosphere was pleasant and the noise level was low. We weren’t rushed, and six of us spent a pleasant couple of hours over lunch there.
Found this neighborhood restaurant on opentable and was very impressed. It was not noisy and we could have a comfortable conversation. Food was excellent we were really surprised. Definitely will be back.
The vanilla crème brûlée is delicious! We didn’t regret ordering that eventhough we were stuffed.
Best steak sandwich i have had in years cooked perfectly. Prawns were excellent.
Very enjoyable breakfast. Good food and not overpriced.
Great food and service. Added bonus is easy parking - great choice for pre Jubilee show dinner.
Lovely restaurant, food was great and our server very attentive and friendly. Will definitely be going back.
Excellent food, service, ambiance will definitely recommend it to my friends.
Fantastic new menu! I’ll be back!
Everything was Excellent !!
Service was excellent but the food wasnt great. Ordered the basil pizza. Sparse toppings, mostly just oily and under cooked crust. My friend had the salad which looked ok.
We went for brunch and everyone really enjoyed the food, with good portions and price. Attentive service and the restaurant was clean.
Great place to eat. Had brunch this time and it was great.
Great place to meet, eat, and talk. Food was extremely tasty. Portion could’ve been just a bit bigger, but we had room for dessert. The service was impeccable. Our waitress was so personable. I’d highly recommend it😊
Always great food! Love the gluten free options.
Music was a bit loud for our senior age Aunt for brunch.
What a great place to be, the whole group enjoyed the outing and we will all be back. There is not enough to be said about how great this place it. Being someone who has food allergies, I was so pleased to see a huge menu that allowed me to make modifications that allowed me to eat basically everything!
Can not wait too go back!
Great neighborhood gem
We had a wonderful tri-birthday gathering for 3 people celebrating; great food with a welcoming atmosphere
Service at the Block is unparalleled. Utterly friendly and charming. The food is excellent, the ambiance is graceful, clean, and comfortable. The prices are competitive so the value is high. We took friends from the States, and the only mistake was one steak ordered medium came almost rare. Luckily it was so delicious that our guest ate it anyway.
Everything was great. Food was super tasty, server was prompt and friendly and overall experience was 10/10.
Sunday prime rib is great, and the mushroom ravioli is surprisingly good. Will come again to try out their weekend brunch.
An excellent meal again from The Block. Showed up with a couple friends for a brunch, one of whom i learned is Vegan with a sesame allergy. The server and kitchen didn’t stop for more than a moment to come up with alternatives from their menu to accommodate her needs!
That flexibility and knowledge and honest effort from their team says much about why I continue to make the Block one of my go to locations for dining.
Thanks for another great meal, and for making my recommendation look good!
Great atmosphere with good quality and tasty dishes!
Took my twin girls and they devoured everything! Service was impeccable. Will become a regular
Fantastic food. The sirloin is cooked to perfection, great prices on the half priced wine, and the service was top notch.
Friendly service and tasty food, a neighbourhood gem!
Great food, fabulous service (the waitress was extraordinarily patient with out party, half of whom were an hour late, and when we asked for different seating). Good price, clean and modern decor. The music was a bit up for us but none of the rest of our party mentioned it at all. Great time. Thanks!
Delicious food and fast, friendly service. Tiny place, but great energy right in the heart of Banff. Be careful not to book reservations for the one in Calgary. Block in Banff doesn't take reservations. You will love the menu (we shared the vegetarian ramen bowl, oysters, truffle fries) everything was perfect!!!
Good spot for a relaxed Saturday evening meal
I have been to the Block a couple of times before. My previous dining experiences were better than this one. The restaurant is located in an easily accessible area, by car, in Calgary with lots of parking available. Nice decor, modern and bright. There was quite a bit of noise carrying over from the attached lounge. We were seated by a door to the patio. The weather was cool and rainy and the door to the patio propped open. We had to ask to have the door to be closed as we were quite cold. Despite only one other couple in the restaurant when we arrived service was slow. We were told there would be a wait for our cocktails to be prepared. I ordered a Mojito, I was advised there would be an additional wait as they had no mint to add to the drink, someone had to go and get some. The meals were just “okay”. I did mention to a server that it was my companion’s birthday and her dessert was served with one birthday candle and complimentary.
What a fabulous gem! We love their menu selection and the food is over the top! Excellent service: personable, knowledgeable and professional. What would I recommend on the menu...EVERYTHING! Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner - work your way through each menu. The wine selection is impressive, too! One could easily have a standing reservation at the Block Kitchen. Check it out!
I have been to the Block twice and I am confident in saying their food is excellent. The meals are very tasty and generous in size for those who are looking for value for their dollars.
I do have one NOTE OF CAUTION TO ALL CELIACS:
If you are like me and had researched restaurants in Calgary and landed on the Block because of its numerous Gluten Friendly options (most restaurants only have a couple) then please be cautious. I had done research online and heard rave reviews of their GF options and preparation, so I admit I assumed they would be a little more careful than the average restaurant. Unfortunately this was not the case. I had ordered a GF entree and followed all the usual precautions I have come accustomed to:
– Asking if the entree was already gluten free or if the kitchen needed to make alterations/modifications to make it so (I was assured it was naturally GF).
– Asking them to please note/write *allergy on my order, so as to ensure a little more care was taken.
– Confirming again when I received my food that the entree was in fact GF (they assured me it was).
Despite my questions and caution, my meal still came with gluten IN IT. Partway through eating my meal, I noticed a deep fried cauliflower nestled beneath the other vegetables. Immediately skeptical, I stopped eating my meal and waiting for our waitress to come by. When she did come by and I asked her what it was made of, she immediately said she didn't think it was GF and she went to check with the kitchen. Turns out, it was NOT a gluten free batter on the cauliflower and it had been made with a mix of rice and wheat flour. Needless to say I was very unimpressed with their carelessness, especially given the multiple times I asked for confirmation it was GF.
The restaurant did end up paying for my meal as well as a replacement meal, which was a good way to try and make the situation better, however, as a celiac, I am less concerned with my money and more concerned about getting sick.
Great Service, comfy atmosphere, really good Pizza's. Wine is a bit pricey.
