I haven't been to the Black Sheep Restaurant in many years and met a friend for lunch. I can't say that the food was stupendous. It was ok. It wasn't terrible. The prices are a bit high for what you get. They say they serve soup on the menu but they don't as I discovered when I tried to order some. I realize they face some limitations as a small place but if they did better w the food, they'd have a line out the door. The wait staff and manager are always very nice.
Really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food & wine.
Great food and good drink at a charming little restaurant in the heart of Kendall Square, Cambridge. I had the maine crab cakes which were delicious, moist and lightly breaded. The venue was good for quiet conversation. Service was attentive.
We always wanted to try the Black Sheep. Dishes are OK, not so bad or not outstanding either. I recommend their cheese plate.
The lunch on September 18th at the Black Sheep Restaurant was very delightful. The food was delicious, and the waitress and staff were very attentive and friendly. It was most enjoyable.
Service was very slow. Cheese plate was lovely. Very good assortment and choices. Quinoa salad...not great but the grilled chicken was super tender and tasty.
Excellent quality bistro, ambience unmatched. Like having a drink and meal in your own living room. Staff very engaged. I order food with all kinds of modifications (no gluten, no dairy) and they always get it right.
a fine place to meet a friend with whom I wanted to catch up (which is to say talk without shouting). Food was fine and it's a lovely cozy space. Only down side was the price - I was unhappily surprised to pay $60 for half a share of two starters, one main and splitting a half bottle of wine.
Lovely as always!
Was there with a party of 8. Service was INCREDIBLY slow, inattentive and not what I would expect for a restaurant at this price point.
I made my res. through Open Table and confirmed it early this week with OT by e. mail, but when I got to the restaurant, there was no record that I had a res.
Grilled Salmon and crab cakes with accompaniments were both excellent meals. Service was very attentive, seating comfortable and had weather been warmer we would have sat outside. Will definitely be back!
My favorite restaurant in Kendall Square. Food and service are spectacular.
Very loud guests that were using profanity . The manager eventually moved my teenager daughters and I outside and checked on us regularly. I was very grateful. The food and service was superb.
The portions have gotten smaller. Although the meal was still good.
I love the space, especially the patio in warmer weather, and the food is also very good. Sipping ice tea over a business lunch is divine!
One of my favorite lunch places in Kendall Square. The outdoor patio is really nice when the weather is warm. Great food and attentive service.
My friends and I ordered the burger, each having it cooked a different way. they all came perfectly done and for me who likes it rare,, it was spot on and delicious. Service was excellent, price reasonable and as always, the Black Sheep continues to be an excellent choice. Great menu and atmosphere.
My wife and I have been to the The Black Sheep on many occasions. This occasion was a birthday dinner for my son. It is fairly expensive but that is the neighborhood.
Took my daughter to lunch. We had a lovely time. Service was wonderful and the food was delicious. My only concern was parking. We circled Cambridge for an hour before pulling into a lot and paying $31 for the privilege of parking.
Outstanding food! Not pretentious but very high class presentation. I highly recommend the Black Sheep.
I always enjoy eating at The Black Sheep. Sometimes it is very noisy but this time, perhaps because we had to eat earlier (six-ish) the noise level remained very low until about 7:30. Loved the food and ambience.
Quiet, romantic, and attractive restaurant.
This was a great place to meet colleagues for a quiet dinner after work.
Disrespectful staff for business lunch.
Fresh food well prepared and seasonal. Terrific steak frites
Fine food of a Continental gastropub-type vibe. For lunch, I had the quinoa-cruciferious salad, figuring I'm a sucker for multiple diphthongs and multisyllabic words in my dish names, but the dish actually came out well balanced, very tasty, and not merely hipster fodder. My dining companions were happy with their sandwiches, chili, and salads, as well.
Pricing is up the middle for a restaurant of this type; I just feel they're all overpriced for what they are. Especially when we had difficulty tracking down our server and getting what we wanted, when we wanted it during the tail end of a slow lunch hour.
We did not have a very good experience. The service was very slow and it was noisy. We had a few problems. We had to ask several times for one of our desserts. It took a long time to get our bill. When we did, we asked for it to be split three ways. It came back in a very unequal split. Because it had taken so long, we decided it was better not to ask to have it split correctly as we would have to wait even longer. All in all, it was very disappointing. I had chosen the restaurant online as a nice place to meet with some family we had not seen in awhile. There were some older folks in the group and I thought it would quiet which was not the case. While the food was good, the service was too slow.
I had never heard of this restaurant but wanted to find a place convenient to where friends were staying. We were all delighted. The food was great. We had crab cakes that were the best I ever had, crispy and flavorful and no shell pieces. Cauliflower in panko crumbs was superb. The chili bowl appetizer was delicious with a nice kick but not too spicy. Our server Beatriz was excellent and helpful. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this little restaurant.
Tonight was a very nice dinner at a very quaint place. The prices are, definitely higher than 2 $ signs, but good food and wine choices.
Wonderful cozy restaurant in the heart of Kendall Square. Delicious food and fantastic wine selection.
And the service was exceptional!
This restaurant was amazing. The lighting, decor, and food were all great. Will definitely take a date or close friend here.
I invited a friend who has never been to the Black Sheep Restaurant and she raved about it! Not only was the food fabulous, the portions are plenty for the price. The ambiance is relaxing, she loved that we were able to have a conversation without talking over the noise of the restaurant. I too enjoy this. The service was prompt but with excellence and personal attention. Very informative as I have food allergies so they helped guide me through the menu! Big shout out to the Wait staff, Santos, Odier and Cheryl! Also, to Brenda Anderson, GM, who's personal attention and outstanding customer relations to each and every guest who walks into the Kendall Hotel! I work and in the city and that has now become my home away from home, to regroup and meet with professional collaborators and friends. One of the Best in Cambridge! OK, one more thing.ahahhah The Quinoa Bowl with Salmon was the BEST!! The salmon was perfectly cooked best I ever had, and I've hand thousands of salmon dishes, perfectly cooked the flavor on the outside crisp and perfectly seasoned and it melted in my mouth...OMG its lunch and I am hungry now! ahahah I rate it above a 10!!
Love the quaint , boutique style ambiance of the hotel and restaurant. Surprisingly excellent menu ...porcini mushroom ravioli was rich and flavorful and filet mignon tender and succulent... items are priced so there is no tipping .. waffles, lemon pound cake and homemade granola stand out at breakfast at the hotel ...
Best steak I’ve ever had!
The ambiance was lovely and the food absolutely outstanding. Everything we order was perfect, the appetizer of warm nutss and olives was delicious, the arugala salad dressed perfectly, and the prime felet migno(medium rare) melted in my mouth. In a word, spectacular...!!
I love the food at the restaurant and take only my favorite people here.
The prices were outrageous since the no tipping rule went into effect. The increase in the prices was significantly higher than a normal 20% tip. A salad should not cost $19. There are so many good restaurants in Kendall Square. I will not be coming back. I
I attended a business dinner at the Black Sheep and found the perfect location for a business conversation to have. The food - I had the New England cheese plate as appetizer, the rib eye steak as entrée and the Crème Brûlée as desert - was great and delicious, the service was pleasant and discreet, the ambiance was calm and relaxed - overall a great experience.
The food was excellent and the service was excellent. Service is included in the price of the food, a point I noticed on the website when I went to look up the menu. When we got the check, there was a space to add a gratuity, and no notice that the service was already included. I had to ask, and indeed it is factored in to the price so the tip area on the check is if “you want to add something extra”. The restaurant should be clear and shouldn’t put servers in the awkward position of having to answer this question. It should be made very clear on the bill.
