Although the magician totally didn't show up to our table this time, our previous experience was awesome. If you go there, make sure you are seated somewhere the magician would come over.
Made reservations via open table well in advance. When we arrived the restraunt was relatively empty. We had mentioned in our reservation request for a table near a tv so we can watch football and enjoy our Sunday. Our reservations were at 1130. Our host tried seating us way out of the way of the main dinning room, when we asked to receive a different table she started "Oh, the dinning room is reserved for our 12pm guests." What??? What is the point of reserving a table?? She ended up seating us outside and it took about 10 mins for a server to even take our drink order. The whole time we were being served/assisted they made us feel rushed and unimportant. The food was overcooked and over priced. We will not be returning.
We have eaten at the Black Marlin several times now and love it. Especially the swordfish. It is delicious! They serve large portions so we had enough leftover for our lunch today. Excellent food and service!
Had a lunch meeting, food was great and service was excellent. Respectful of meeting and limited interruptions.
We were there to listen to the band
Went for a Bday party. Started off on a bad note but by the end of the eve. It was a very enjoyable night. Bday girl was very “Happy” and that’s all that counted. We will come back.
Hey Black Marlin, you had me at bottomless pomegranate mimosas...
Real nice atmosphere, spacious, great food and service.
Sand dabs with risotto and green beans were fantastic! Clam chowder is a winner too!
was unsure why they did an automatic 20% gratuity. Thank goodness someone was paying attention in our group or we would have all over tipped.
We come to see the band Notorious and love love loved it!!!!!!
Enjoyed the experience! Wonderful jazz quartet...featuring Benn Clatworthy on sax...so enjoyable! The service was friendly & efficient...menu varied & interesting. Will return ..especially for all that jazz!
Fantastic as always. Love this place for happy hour, brunch & great dinners
I have frequented the Black Marlin many times and the staff is always friendly, attentive and efficient. The food has always been excellent and healthy.
They put us out on the back patio because they didn’t have a table in the restaurant, though we had requested an indoor table and no one had told us we could not have a table indoors. The smell of sewage in a drain pipe on the back patio was so awful we had to leave. We will never go there again and we are reporting it to the health department
First time for brunch...I’m sure the second time will be a 5
We ordered sand dabs but one side was so crisp we had to cut this delicate fish with a knife
When we arrived I told the host we had reservations and he welcomed me by my name, confirmed we had 2 more coming for our party and gave us a choice of seating. Very friendly and hospitable. Table was comfortable and food was a little pricey for such a casual place (almost a bar) but everyone cleaned their plates. Seriously, it was weird. Hubby had fish, friends had scallops, other had salad with salmon which she said was cooked perfectly. I had the shrimp/mushroom linguine and I usually don't like mushrooms with shrimp but these were perfect. The shrimp was plentiful and the sauce was yummy. We made a promise to visit again for lunch as the lunch menu looked really interesting. Service was great. Very attentive and we would go back.
Food was marginal at best, the desert was tasteless, didn't give as all the specials waitress, never brought
the bread . the worst meal we had in our 5 day trip
Although we had a reservation they would not seat us, though there were six tables open. Apparently, they were hoping to seat larger parties. The sound level was unbearable, there is no parking and the menu was 50% overpriced.
The waitstaff was untrained and unable to answer any questions.
The food was really just average.
Our server was great, very helpful and attentive.
Food was excellent.
Well go again.
Food was tasty and we had a good time. Nice atmosphere on the front patio in Old Town Orange. A tad noisy, but quiet enough that we could talk. One complaint: I know from their website that they have a senior menu, but they didn’t offer it to our group, even though at least a couple of us were clearly senior citizens. They should do that as a matter of routine. It would have been especially appreciated because the main courses are kind of pricey.
The dinner salad was very small and the dressing was virtually tasteless. We ordered the twenty seven dollar fish and chips and got three small pieces of fish that was over cooked. The creamed corn side was the only item that was tasteful and cooked properly. Had to remind server to bring us the bread and had to look for her when we wanted to pay the bill. The live music was good but I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant as the other fish dishes were in the high 30’s and low 40’s and they couldn’t get a fried fish item correct.
BEST OYSTERS ROCKEFELLER, BEST, BEST SHRIMP COCKTAIL, BEST, BEST, BEST DRINKS.
our favorite place to go. and KATIE is amazing!!!
I've driven by The Black Marlin every day for several years, but this was my first time in. Had a truly outstanding steak, done a proper medium rare, with excellent sides of creamed corn and macaroni and cheese. Kids' menu had numerous good choices, and my daughter was happy with her dinner, too. It's easy to miss, but this is absolutely one of the best restaurants in Tustin.
It was great. Thursday has a nice jazz band playing at 7pm. Took the folks and my two daughters and they loved it. Only negative was they charged us full price for our sides even though we ordered several entrees. So it cost us more. We never said anything to the waitress.
We were a party of two for lunch and were greeted warmly as soon as we entered the restaurant. Our Open Table reservation was honored with a choice of tables. The menu was full of tempting possibilities. In addition to the regular menu, there were also lunch specials that sounded great. The food (halibut sandwich and fish and chips) was delicious and the service was impeccable. Right on the spot with drink refills and checking on us. I look forward to returning because there are so many other items on the menu I want to try!
My friend plays in a band there Call notorious and when they play I love to go because I love everything about the place
Decided to try this place out. Had a very nice dinner with wife and kids. Would recommend.
We had a large party and had excellent service! The band was great. Food was hot and tasty.
We will come back and suggest others try out the Black Marlin.
Great as always!!! Good service and we totally enjoyed the entertainment!! We will be back!
Only complaint was we were seated on the patio and there were a couple of "over-served" patrons behaving out front. There was also a fellow painting the flowerbox in front and the fumes were very unpleasant.
We had a great server and the best meal! I had the shrimp and scallops on goat cheese polenta- excellent! The desserts were all excellent as well. I did not have a cocktail but the lemon drop looked great.
Location has good live music on the weekend afternoons. Several nice items on the menu. Margaritas are the bomb.
The food was very good. The rolls were delicious. I think that the prices are a little high for what you get, but at least the food tastes good.
The food had a lot of potential but should have been prepared better. My scallops were very sweet but slightly under cooked and needed more seasoning. For the price I expect better execution.
Fantastic crispy fish and chips, and amazing steak fries! And superb waitresses.
We had never been there before so was anxious to try. My husband ordered th scallops and they were delicious and beautifully presented. I ordered the trout and was dried out - over cooked. The mashed potatoes were cold and the green beans had no flavor whatsoever (needed seasoning)
Our server was very efficient and friendly.
One dish was perfect and the other not so much.
Underwhelming. Not bad but just average across the board. Bills itself as higher end dining. It isn't.
Our special request wasn’t acknowledged. Was excited about restaurant. Was disappointed with quality of food.
