Loved it love all the staff
Great food and service, but a large party at another table was extremely loud.
The food was outstanding!
Food was delicious, staff was very pleasant and attentive. Highly recommended celebrating something special here.
A bit more upscale than the Pub with slightly better food. Great experience
Met friends for dinner, neither of us had been here before. What a pleasant surprise. Everything was amazing, the food, the ambiance, and the service. It was a perfect evening.
The food and atmosphere were great! We went on a Friday and it was very busy. The wait for our dinner entrees and dessert took a lot longer than usual.
Been going to the Black Horse for years. This time the service was a little challenged by a new order system. Our cocktails didn't come until after our appetizers were finished. The service while slow was still pleasant as always. It was a Saturday night so there was a singer in the bar area where we were seated. He was very good. He played a nice selection of songs without being too loud to be intrusive into dinner conversation.
Ambiance and service was wonderful. Was disappointed in the meal. Since I do not frequent this restaurant often I can only base my opinion on this experience. Shrimp was overcooked and tough. Would definitely give it another chance and hope for a better tasting.
In all fairness, my partner was most satisfied with his dinner.
So unfortunate. Soggy bread in bread basket and the driest salmon I think I've ever gotten. Cold where we were sitting and the best thing about the place was the musicians playing.
This was our second time and it was as good as the first. Excellent food, service and setting. It can't be beat.
Excellent food & service (Michael). It is one of our special places
Food was better than average but service not so good. My wife’s dish, boneless short ribs, had to be returned because it was cold. How we if you like shrimp cocktail, I had the best ever. Huge shrimp served over plate of crushed ice.
My husband and I went there for Thanksgiving dinner. The food was delicious. He said the Butternut Squash Soup was the best he had ever had. I loved my Portabella appetizer. The turkey meal was delicious and perfect amount of food. We sat at a nice table near a window and could see your pretty decorations outside. The waitress was so sweet . It was truly a beautiful Thanksgiving for us. Hope to be back soon.
My friends and I visited Black Horse Tavern on a Saturday evening for dinner. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our server, Mike, was wonderful and so attentive! He engaged in polite conversation with us was very pleasant. The food was delicious...we ordered a variety of steak entrees and salads, and everything was wonderful. We didn't order dessert because we felt full, but they looked AMAZING. The next time, even if I'm full, I am ordering that dessert! We were very impressed. We'd definitely return.
This was a disappointing experience for us. Seafood was over cooked. Service was too long. Bread given was only 3 pieces and we were 7 at the table. Very disappointing after it came highly recommended
Disappointing. Went on a Saturday night and was seated promptly. That's where the good part ends. Service was very slowwwwww, and not at all attentive. Waiter was very confused and had a hard time remember orders. Sad part is that the entire menu is only 1 side of 1 page. Took over 2 hours for two of us to dine. Split appetizer, small salad each, glass of wine each
, and mid range entrees. $135 total with 15% tip. ( yes, I know, should have given less but I felt sorry for him). Food is nothing great. Atmosphere is cozy. Better choices for the money.
Got together with friends--3 couples--for dinner. We had been here before and liked it, but it was particularly good this time. Perhaps it was the waiter. I wish we had caught his name, but he was a delightful young man, very helpful and responsive and just a pleasure whenever he showed up. Everyone's food was excellent. The atmosphere was comfortable. The room wasn't particularly big but we were not crowded. We could hold a conversation around the table without shouting--a big plus nowadays. Could not have been a nicer evening.
Our waiter was wonderful. Food was delicious. Great atmosphere.
Went to see some live music at the bar. Had the short rib stew which was excellent. Highly recommend it. Listen to music from solo guitarist Sheri and she was great. Thanks for the good time. Special thanks to Lauren at the bar
Quality food and very good service
Loved music in bar area
We made the five minute drive to the BH Tavern this past Saturday (10/28)...My family had a 7:00 reservation and were seated promptly at 7:00 (a plus)...we waited ten minutes for someone to stop-by the table....our waiter tried but clearly was inexperienced and over-matched...in his defense there was no busboy which meant our waiter did everything by himself for our table and 3-4 tables around us....he brought us our bread (after being asked when our entrees were delivered), poured our water (again, after being asked when our entrees were delivered)....he was polite (as evidenced by the 7-8 times he said "I'm sorry").....food was good, nothing special...draft beers were flat...It was our first visit to the BHT in a few years and it will be our last.... I wish we had walked across the courtyard to the Pub or driven the nine miles into Morristown for multiple, better dining alternatives....
Always have loved this place! It would be nice to see new options on the dinner menu!
We had the dining room to ourselves for a very early Friday anninversary dinner, which was nice! Table ambiance not the best without tablecloth or lit candle, but we did have a window view of outside Fall display. Had a intermittent banging noise from the basement under our table which was annoying. Food was great except for a less than memorable prime rib cut and roast. Waiter suggestions and daily specials were very good, esp. the seasonal squash soup! Attentive and courteous service; pace of courses was excellent and glasses kept filled. Dessert selection and coffee was an excellent close to the evening. Our time there was very relaxing...Upon leaving we sat in the municipal garden across the street on a beautiful Fall evening! The small historic hamlet setting is attractive and inviting. I would definately recommend this as a date location!
Food was excellent, but our food and drinks were very slow to come out and wait staff needs more training.
The waitress was nice but extremely inattentive. She forgot water multiple times when we asked. When I got up to ask the bartender she asked me to wait a minute and then forgot. My burger was overcooked. I asked for medium and I got well done. When we asked the waitress to pack up our leftovers, she forgot. I will never go back.
The apps were good. Lobster tots and oysters. Main course of Inn seafood bake was awful. Shrimp and scallops way overdone, salmon was raw. Mousse cake was good. Wine selection was good, but extremely pricey, above the 2x I'd expect. The saving grace was the live music. Loved that!
We had an excellent server named Michael who set a very positive tone for the dinner. The room we were in had a large group there for dinner which increased the noise level more than usual-the food and drinks were good and we were able to relax and have an enjoyable private meal.
We waited for ten minutes to be seated at the Tavern although the restaurant was not busy - Friday night over Labor Day weekend. After we were seated we waited for 15 more minutes... No one greeted us or even offered to bring us water or a drink. Wait staff and managers kept walking by without a Hello or "we'll send someone over." We finally left and no one seemed to notice or care that we were leaving... Wow. And we are regulars at the Black Horse Pub. We will be back to the Pub but we're super disappointed.
Second trip in about a year and much better. Too noisy but not the fault of restaurant. Two very loud larger groups next to us. I had seafood bake and my wife, steak salad. Well prepared and perfect for a quick dinner for two of us. Server was attentive and did her job well.
Food wasn't anything incredible, not bad, just not memorable. They sat us in the bar area of the tavern (we went to the tavern not the pub) so it was quite loud. The server seemed new but was very attentive. Food not fantastic, not worth the money we paid.
My husband and I dined at The Black Horse Tavern on a Friday evening. We both began with wedge salads. The house made blue cheese dressing was delicious and the ingredients were fresh. The accompanying bread basket was full of fresh warm bread that was replenished when it got low. For an entree, I ordered their famous prime ribs (which can be had in a large, 24 oz portion, or a smaller, 16 oz,one). They were, as usual, juicy, flavorful. and cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the evening's special seafood stew which was plentiful and excellent. We shared a pecan pie with ice cream and creme fraiche for dessert. Service was cheerful and attentive. Although this restaurant is in a charming historic building, the interior is decorated in up-to-date furnishings (without ruining the authentic architecture).
We love the restaurant, but the last couple of times we have dined there we found some of the food to be too salty. Everything else has been great though.
We had a wonderful experience from the moment we entered the Tavern. The host was friendly and informed us of the history of the restaurant and inn. The food was delicious. We will be back!!
A wonderful special occasion restaurant with good service (especially with Lolita). Food was well prepared, nicely presented and delicious. Would definitely recommend and return.
Classy yet casual with great food and service. Been here many times and never am disappointed!
I had dinner with my wife and our two children for her birthday. The food and service was excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive. It is a little pricey. Not a complaint , but limits the number of times we go there.
Great restaurant still today. Great food and service.
