-Very strange that a brunch spot doesn't have coffee?
-Cannot change between drinks at bottomless
-They used to have more drinks on their bottomless and now only have 3 options
Great food, utilizing some unique proteins, in a truly tasty way. Excellent cocktails and happy hour too.
Went for brunch. Service was slow, I asked the waiter what I should order that was the best dish and would make me talk about them to my friends and he said the steak and eggs. I though an odd choice as there was a Pulpo & lamb dish that sounded more interesting but took his recommendation. My steak was cooked perfectly but lacking any real “flavor” and they didn’t ask how I wanted the eggs so they came out fried with yolks that were almost hard. My Tante got the fish tacos which were great. The first cocktail (smoky jalapeño margarita) was good when I asked for another the second was a normal marg which is not what I wanted and it was too much lime. All in all, it was non memorable and I wouldn’t return. Maybe we just went on a bad day?
Would be nice to have more vegan options.
Great vibes and drinks! Good for groups and sitting outside
Date night was a great experience. Nice staff with great food!
Really delicious food with an eclectic menu. There were options for the more adventurous eaters among us (guacamole with black ant salt, grasshopper croquettes, and rabbit enchiladas). The fish and pork tacos were also delicious and perfect for slightly less adventurous diners. We really enjoyed everything, and managed to save room for the delicious churros at the end! Would highly recommend if you're craving Mexican but want something special.
I love this place for large group dinners
I have eaten here before, and found the food to be truly unique and delicious. This time the food was adequate. Nothing was bad, or poorly made. The carnitas tacos were outstanding. Everything else was adequate. The restaurant was also very crowded, there did not appear to be an effort to limit the number of customers or to seat them at sufficient distances. There was a table full of drunk individuals directly behind us, with little to no distance. They frequently spoke directly with us, without wearing any masks.
Was so disappointed with the food.
I have had 2 great experiences here and 1 average. It depends what kind of ambience you are seeking. Sunday brunch is loud and feels like a club atmosphere. Dinner is bit more low key and enjoyable. The patio is cute and cozy.
Food is good, some dishes are better than others. I would definitely return.
They were closed....
I love the black ant so much! But we made a reservation, showed up, and they were closed. Hope they can get back soon!
The restaurant was closed and did not take their open reservation spots off of OpenTable. I only discovered the restaurant was closed when I arrived there with nothing but a note on the door. I know that sudden closures happen in these times, but there needs to be better communication with platforms.
It was closed! My friend and I made a reservation for the weekend after Christmas, we got there and it was locked and dark inside. Their website, open table, and google maps were all saying it was open; not sure what happened but we were disappointed. Ended up going to Rosies down the street (amazing)
the restaurant was CLOSED!!! We showed up at the time of our reservation and it was locked and dark inside. Called but obviously the phones just rang in the empty restaurant. Not listed as closed anywhere.
We had some selections from the happy hour menu. Everything was excellent!
Best margaritas in NYC. Awesome brunch. Our server Alfredo is always so nice and attentive.
Excellent elevated Mexican brunch food, delicious margaritas, great service.
It has been a while since I‘ve been out to dinner and had a 10/10 experience— but The Black Ant was exactly that! First off, not one dish that we ordered missed a single thing! Every ingredient was incredible, and portions were great for the price and quality! We had the pulpo, fish tacos, steak and halibut and I would go back and reorder the exact same thing— it was THAT good. The ambiance was perfect and the music choices were the best I have heard in a while! A perfect combination of latin inspired music, with deep house soul - making this night even more memorable! The service was great too and our server was super attentive & made great food suggestions. I love it here and hope to be back soon!!
Service was superb!! The food was amazing!! What made me rate them 5 starts was the cocktails! The margaritas were amazing (I loved the mango) and the black ant Negroni was unique and true!!
Always love this restaurant. Great food, staff really nice and helpful and welcoming.
Can't wait to go back
Sat us over 30 min late - small menu selection and very overpriced for quality of food
Was sat in the very back where it was absolutely freezing. We asked to move and was told no because there wasn’t an available table for 45 mins. Went to the front a few times and there were multiple seats for two. Never again.
Every food item was served cold and multiple items were unavailable
Busy, youth ambiance.
The chocolate Mousse was great and my girl and I really enjoyed spending our first valentine here!
Food was good but a little expensive for what it was (even in NYC), and the menu definitely caters to adventurous eaters.
We ordered mezcal margaritas. On the second round, it did not taste right or it tasted like tequila. We asked her to check to make sure they were mezcal or if they could remake them. She was far from helpful and gave us major attitude about it, insisted it was mezcal, then when she finally brought over a fresh batch, said “this is exactly what you had before.” So much for “the customer’s always right.” Will not be going back and will definitely not recommend.
Have eaten hear before and love the food. Unfortunately, this time there was a table of very loud and obnoxious people who kept shouting offensive terms. The staff was uncomfortable, other diners were uncomfortable and the manager didn’t have the backbone to do anything about it.
Even better than the last time we visited (which had been awhile). Cocktails were solid, dishes were excellent. Stand outs were the ceviche and fish tacos.
Took advantage of the antmazing happy hour, which runs every day from 4 - 7 PM. We had the smoky jalapeño margaritas, which we amazing! We also tried the fish tacos, the carnitas tacos, and the quesadillas. Everything was great and during midweek the place is nice and chill. It can get busy on Friday night and over the weekend. We were very satisfied with the service, food was great, and will keep coming back again. Highly recommend!
Waited 20 min and noone came to ask for our order or drinks. Left before anyone came and asked for an order
Our favorite Mexican food in the East Village. Great drinks and happy hour!
We had a nice meal at the Black Ant. Drinks were excellent food great, ambiance not so much. Very noisy, tables for two very crammed in. All in all a decent dining experience. Would go back again.
Very mediocre food - and it was soft...I know that sounds strange but it was just a soft mess. With all of the great Mexican in NY - I would suggest skipping this one...sadly, I’d go to Chipotle before I go back.
one of my favorite restaurants! no matter how busy they are, the service is always attentive, and the staff is very friendly. food is delicious, and happy hour is the best!
Creative, resourceful and delicious - highly recommend the Black Ant for adventurous eaters. Drinks are delicious!
Great service, amazing margaritas
I might recommend the restaurant--and I'd consider going back--for the food, which was unusual and by and large very good. My boyfriend and I thought the conejo enchiladas were delicious, and our friends liked the pork tacos and the plantains a lot (and the steak, though they found it overpriced). (My least favorite dish was the corn and crab soup, which I found bland and overpriced.)
One big caveat--we waited an hour plus for our food--with no communication from our waiter. We needed to leave by 10:15 for a show in the neighborhood, and had allowed plenty of time for a leisurely dinner. Desperate for something to eat, we eventually ordered chips (the trio of salsas were good) then sought out the manager, who was apologetic, and offered extra drinks. (The two guys in our party accepted, but I had no desire for extra alcohol on an empty stomach.) We wolfed down our food when it finally arrived, and were shocked to see that our waiter hadn't comped the desperation-order chips. One of us complained about that to the manager ,who agreed that we shouldn't have been charged.
My recommendation: don't go when you want to eat soon or need to be somewhere afterwards. Inquire about whether the kitchen is slow that night. Consider waiting to order drinks till after your food order has been placed.
Also, check their health rating--it was Grade Pending when we ate there
