The Bistro at Grove Square
The "steak frites" were disappointing.. Steak was overcooked and instead of FRESH, crisp thin fries, these fries were the fat, frozen type you get at a school cafeteria. I ordered a pinot noir. After several minutes I was told that tonight they only have malbec, cab or merlot. I chose malbec as a substitute. She returned shortly and apologized again: no malbec either! This place has a nice location but the food is not good. I will not return nor recommend this restaurant.
Great food. Loved the location. Awesome service.
I'm giving it 2 stars because the location is awesome. Everything else...? Not so much. Food is absolutely awful! I had a beet salad with grilled shrimp- beets and shrimp were from a can. Service was equally bad. So many places to choose from in JC, this will not be a repeat for me!
Went to Jersey City to visit our son. Saw this place when we were walking back from the path and decided it looked inviting with outdoor eating area. We were not disappointed. The boys had beer and I had a margarita that was declicous, especially on a warm evening. We each got an appetizer and then split a pizza. Pizza was delicious. Our waiter, Will was very helpful in recommendations on the pizzas and very attentive. With it being happy hour the prices were awesome. We will definetly be back and will ask for Will again.
What a great little brunch spot! The cocktail menu is divine!
The happy hour drinks were great. However, the food was just awful, the flat bread tasted like it was made with old dough and generic sauce.
Raw chicken. Twice. Not acknowledged by the waiter. Not going back
Service was good, food wasn't bad.
Great place to go to grab a dinner later in the evening . Nice cocktails and very accomodating
Good, but could've been better. The food was delicious, but the service wasn't the best. Myself and 5 of my friends were one of maybe 3 tables in the entire place, and our server had no sense of urgency. She was in our plain site for the first 15 minutes, not helping anyone, and it still took her that long to come by. She kept forgetting things, and when we would remind her she wouldn't apologize, she just brought out what we needed as if it was the first time we told her. It looked like a few others servers were also slacking, but they didn't have any tables unlike our server. Food and drinks were great, but wouldn't come back strictly because of the service.
Upon arriving for our 1pm reservation for 6 people, we were rudely greeted by a "hostess" who was counting money and said she'd be right with us. She then seemed annoyed that we interrupted her task and asked how many of us were there. I said I had made a reservation through open table for 6, she cut me off and said "yeah well where do you want sit?" Clearly making a reservation is useless at this establishment as there was no table ready for us, we looked at the only available spot and had to push tables together. We were a party of six grown men crammed at a small table. The Drink/Brunch special of three glasses of your choice of only a screw Driver, Mimosa or bloody Mary are all pre-made drinks that contain little to no alcohol. The menu's felt like they had never been cleaned. As well 4 out of 6 glasses at our table had lipstick rings on them. Pretty filthy and disgusting. Four of us got up to wash our hands after ordering because of how filthy we felt. I will never bring someone here again. Very sad as this place has so much potential but feels like the staff and owners could care less about customer service or upkeep of the restaurant.
Love it ! The food was delicious and our server Mike was super friendly!
We had friends in town and we were looking for a place to get together without a wait. The Bistro was it. Good service. Good Food. The mimosa was a ton of OJ and little prosecco, until we said something and they changed it.
My friend and I who live in Central Jersey were recommended to have dinner at The Bistro by someone who lives in the area. We loved our meals and drinks as well as the ambience and friendly service. We will definitely be back.
Our waitress was a delight, she was very efficient and attentive.
Food was good. Service was horrible. The bust ladies where awesome. Our server not good.
Mother’s Day brunch
Give this place a 3 out of 10.
There is a noticeable stench in the restaurant.
While our waiter was very nice, the food wasn’t timed at all so our entrees come out while we were still eating our appetizers.
Food was just ok.
Overall, I would skip this restaurant in favor of better restaurants in the area (Kitchen Step, Matthews, talde).
Great service, great food!
After living in Jersey City for 6 months I decided to try Grove Bistro and I was so happy I did. I was treated by friendly attentive staff, throughout the meal the service was top notch, and the food was spectacular. I was there with a friend and we shared muscles and calamari for our appetizers and then shared salmon which was so yummy it was to die for. I will be frequenting Grove Bistro more often.
We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Bistro. Jill was our server and she provided exceptional service and made our brunch that much more memorable. I had the steak and eggs and I would HIGHLY recommend it to everyone. The mimosas were fantastic as well! I hope to dine there in the very near future.
I think our specific waitress was having a tough night, which we’ve all had at some point. Ordered a medium rare steak that came back well done. The manager seemed to take over after a while for her. It is what it is. Not a bad experience but not amazing or even great. A strong “very average” rating.
My fiancé and I had a weird experience, the food was good, just a few things were off. We called to see where the parking lot was. I asked “where is parking located?” The receptionist said “OK!” . I had to hang up because even I got confused. Then when we got there I said “ Reservation for two at 7:30.” The same receptionist replies “ OKAAAAYYY???” We sat down and the menu was different from the website, I ordered a drink and the waitress brought me one made from a mix. I asked and she said you have to specify house vs premium. First time here, have no idea. If I would have been asked that in the beginning I would have chosen differently.
Service was attentive without being overbearing. The menu has a nice varied selection — you could make a meal out of appetizers or go for an entree. The French Onion Soup was flavorful with a solid layer of melted cheese on top. It was served piping hot. My seared branzino with capers and kalamata olives on a bed of broccoli rabe was out of this world! This was my first time dining here, however, I have had happy hour there several times. Great neighborhood spot—it was quite busy for a Monday night. Great addition to the Jersey City scene!
Food was excellent as always and our server was amazing!
A great stop for brunch! The menu is filled with plenty of gems and the servings pretty big. The bottomless mimosas for $12 is also something you can't beat!
Awesome meal
Food was great, they topped up our bottomless mimosas constantly.
Service could have been better. Hard to get the waiter's attention and the servers would just bring food to the table and put it down where there was room, no interest in knowing who ordered it.
Got there for brunch at Noon, bottomless Momosa's/Screwdrivers/Bloody Mary's for $12 with any entree. The waiters were coming around every 5 minutes topping of our glasses. The food was great. Awesome value, great location, good service. Thumbs up!
Great food, service and prices. I'll be telling all about this place.
We came in towards the end of the brunch hours but were attended really well.
The staff did their best and were very accommodating. The food disappointing to say the least.
Usually I'll give restaurant a second chance, not this time.
Food very good
Good after work place
Food and service were both great!
Extremely slow service. Waitress forgot about whether we even received our food several times
I came with a group of 8 people- two being children. We were there early enough where crowds wouldn't be an issue. While our waitress was very nice and friendly, she was very slow in checking on us- we waited on our order being taken, drinks and finally the bill for way too long. That being said, the food was good all around. Ive been there before and will be going back for sure.
The service was a little spotty. The server was in a bit of a rush to take the appetizer plates off the table, and then we waited for a little while before we got our entrees. After the entrees were sent out, another server came out with a duplicate appetizer and asked us if we got our appetizer yet. Overall they just seemed a bit confused, and not quite orderly at all.
I rarely ever write reviews, but I feel that this place deserves a better overall rating, especially after my hesitation to make a reservation here after reading many of the Yelp reviews.
The service and food were great. We had tartar and fried calamari for appetizers, prosciutto and pineapple pizza for main course and tiramisu for dessert. Overall the food was delicious. The thin crust pizza had just the right amount of dough, sauce and cheese. There was a always a server/waiter nearby to take our plates or ask if everything was good. They even brought the tiramisu with a candle in it when I told them it was my friend's birthday. We had a great experience and will definitely come there again.
