The crab meat beignets were okay. Not like actual crab meat, but more like crab and mayo. But the Caesar Salad was very good. And the Entre was wonderful. I thought I had seen chicken Picatta on the menu on line. I was surprised when I didn't see it in person. I asked the waiter (who was excellent - professional, attentive w/o being in the way, conversational) and he said "no problem". I was surprised a second time when it came out. It was two generous pieces of chicken cooked perfectly, over a tubular pasta, with artichoke hearts, capers, tomatoes, and more. Over it all a light, flavorable, lemon wine sauce. It was delicious. Then I got carried away and had dessert. A Bailey's, chocolate mousse, something, cake. That finished me off. It too was very good. Despite separating out some of the pasta and not eating it in a vain attempt to "be good", I left stuffed but happy. Next time I would skip the crab beignets, but do everything else just the same. And next time I am back in town, I will.
You simply can’t beat The Bistro!!
Food is always good! One of my favorite restaurants if not my favorite in Bowling Green. Great specials which usually includes fresh fish
My wife and I both tried something new with the recommendation from Miranda, and we both LOVED our choices. Can’t wait to come back
Always great food, service and ambiance
The before dinner cocktails were unusual and very well presented, innovative.
The entrees were nicely plated and very good. Dessert was excellent. We seem to gravitate to this restaurant whenever we are in Bowling Green. We really like the location, meal choices, service and ambiance. It is a reasonable value for the money.
Had a nice evening hanging out with my friends. The service was outstanding and the food was tasty. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends and family for future dining.
It was our last night night in Bowling Green and we chose this place. Everything was great except for what I ordered. I ordered the fish and chips and it was a little disappointment. Way to much chips and just ONE fish. That was a boo. Great place to eat though, will still go back. :-)
We are at The Bistro for brunch on a Sunday. Everything from the service, food and atmosphere was a A++. We were visiting Bowling Green for the weekend and would certainly return again to The Bistro.
Came here for a VDay dinner. The restaurant featured a VDay menu. I found the menu to be okay at best. The starters lacked any beef or chicken items, two bacon items, and seafood items. There was an avocado fritter on the starter menu as well. I found the starter menu lacked variety.
For dinner I ordered the roasted chicken. The portion of the chicken was generous. It was served on a bed of risotto. I found the risotto to be be too salty; the portion of the risotto was generous as well.
As for drinks: I tried a cocktail off the special menu called the “Love Potion.” The drink sounded more robust than it looked. The presentation of the cocktail was mediocre at best.
The service was fine, although how this server handled my guest’s dissatisfaction with the meal left much to be desired. (I did not include more details about that in this review b/c my interaction with this service was fine.)
Overall, tonight’s dining experience was starkly different from my previous dining experience at this restaurant back in October.
The Bistro hab phenomenal food, a great vibe, tons of interesting art, great service, great food!!
Our Valentine's dinner was exceptional! We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in the door! The atmosphere was perfect. The staff were kind and attentive. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly!
We totally enjoyed the Bistro. The food was fabulous, the service was very efficient, and it was a great find for us visiting Bowling Green for the first time. The staff was friendly and courteous, the ambiance was very rustic in an older home near the downtown area, and we enjoyed the paintings on the wall and the decor of the dining room. Wonderful restaurant!
Food was ok. I had shrimp and grits. 3 nice shrimp 1 tiny shrimp. My son ordered a fillet medium, was well done, they fixed him another one and it was perfect. My cosmo was cranberry juice. Didn’t like their gin and tonic. They did comp our desserts and were very nice. Maybe a off night, either way it was a special occasion with my son in town and it missed the mark. We like 440 Main, it’s consistent.
Wonderful experience as always. One of our favorite restaurants.
The food was great! Had an amazing time.
Excellent, as always!!
Pork chop was burned and black. Chicken terribly under seasoned. This experience was out of character for this restaurant.
We are so glad we chose The Bistro for a special dinner with friends! The service (Emily) was exceptional, it was quiet enough to actually have a pleasant conversation. The dinners, especially those from the Specials Board, were outstanding!!! Great way to celebrate any occasion!!!
Great menu, good service. Best place in Bowling Green to enjoy a good meal.
Being from out of town, I chose the Bistro on the inference that it is one of the nicer places in Bowling Green. I don’t eat at chain restaurants very often but my impression is that this food was similar to what you would find at one of those. The service was entirely satisfactory and the ambiance was fine (remodeled older house) but there were surprisingly few patrons there for a nice restaurant on a Friday night.
We’ve been to the bistro several times and have always enjoyed it. The appetizers were great but 2 of our
Unacceptable to have two dinners (about $55) and have to pay for bread to go with my steak.
This was the second time that my wife and I dined at this restaurant. We had such a wonderful dinner the first time, we altered our travel plans to stop in Bowling Green to eat there again.
The food was excellent with imaginative, tasty appetizers and perfectly cooked, generous sized portions of very fresh fish.
Unfortunately, we had poor service this time. We were uncertain about out main courses and ordered a large salad to split as an appetizer. The salad and house made dressing were excellent.
When our waitress came back to take our main course order, she was flustered when we ordered the fish specials because they came with a salad. I told her we did not want another side salad and suggested that we might substitute another side, but she said that she could not figure out the difference because we had a large instead of two small salads. We told her just to bring the main course and forget the extra salad.
For the rest of the meal, we had exceptionally poor service. She took my silverware when she picked up our salad dishes and I had to find someone to replace them when our main course came out. She asked me if I wanted a second glass of wine and I agreed, but it never appeared. When our water glasses were empty, I had to ask one of the other servers for a refill.
When she eventually returned to ask us if we wanted dessert, she managed a smile, but otherwise was largely absent throughout our meal.
The rest of the servers, including the bartender, and the woman who brought our meals out from the kitchen were very pleasant and chatty.
Despite the service, the meal was very good, but the overall experience was not as outstanding as our first visit last spring.
The Thursday night kitchen not quite up to par. The pork chop was tough and over cooked. Fish and chips looked good but barely warm. To be fair, the meatloaf was good but would have been great if it were hot. All this when only 3 or 4 other tables were occupied. Disappointed.
Chelsea is a phenomenal server. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was exceptional. The environment of this restaurant is fantastic! I will definitely return.
The food was excellent and different than what you get at other places. The price is a little more than what I can spend routinely, but it's ok for special occasions. Thanks
Our two main course were outstanding. The special appetizer for the evening needed a tweek or two on it. Overall it was a very nice relaxing birthday dinner that my wife enjoyed.
This is my first trip to Bowling Green and went on Open Table to find a good restaurant. The Bistro has very good reviews so I guess our experience was unusual.
The food wasn’t bad although my salmon cake was black on each side. The problem we had was the wait to get our food. We waited about an hour and they didn’t bring the bread we ordered until our food came.
The waitress did explain that everything was taking a long time because there was a huge party “upstairs”. If they booked a big party, they should have hired extra staff to cover it and not make the customers "downstairs" suffer by waiting an extremely long time for their food.
We were the only ones in our section that did not have the candle lit on their table, thus lacking a little in ambiance.
Excellent service! Amazing food... Thank you
If you are traveling past bowling green, this is where you should eat. A wonderful surprise. A cook who actually knows how to make delicious sauces. The marsala sauce was just outstanding, as were the shrimp and grits.
The food was outstanding! We had the specials and the appetizer and the main meal were both high quality and flavorful. We talked about how good it was the rest of the night.
We love the Bistro. The food is always excellent and the specials are creative. Each time we eat here I am excited to hear the nightly specials and usually order on of these. Staff has always treated us well, and make it easy to choose their restaurant
We went to The Bistro for our anniversary. We are from Northern KY and were in town to celebrate. From the minute we walked in until we walked out was an exceptional experience. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and we never wanted for anything. The food was absolutely amazing. We started with eel calamari and for dinner,I had salmon and my husband had the filet. We had a NY style cheesecake for dessert that was delectable. The atmosphere and ambiance of the restaurant was so comfortable and inviting. The original hardwood floors and wood trim was gorgeous and the lighting was perfect. When we come back through Bowling Green, we will definitely be back. We wish you were in Cincinnati. Thank you to the staff for making our anniversary dinner amazing!!
First time visit. I took my daughter there for her birthday dinner and it was really nice! We were concerned about the “smart casual” suggestion from the website, but we were fine in jeans and a polo! To be honest, there were people there in T-shirts, so we were fine!
We enjoy the seafood. The salmon crab cake and shrimp & grits were excellent.
We were visiting Bowling Green and wanted to try a local place. The Bistro had a cool atmosphere and the food was amazing. We had crab beignets, salads and dragon chicken and it was all delicious.
Excellent fare and price, something for everyone’s palate!
