The Big Ragu Ratings and Reviews
Nothing was as advertised. We went because of the price fixed menu listed on open table. When we got there we learned the price fixed menu we looked at did not exist, and the staff did not offer to honour what was posted. Additionally, every dish we wanted to order was sold out or missing key ingredients. Noise level was good as we were the only diners in the restaurant.
The Big Ragu was easy to find, there are lots of street parking near by. There is also a bus terminal, so getting there was Easy.
The food was amazing, we had the salmon, and it was the best I have had, cooked perfectly.
It was a quiet night we were there, the server was very attentive and the ambience was just right. Anyone interest in Italian food should give it a try!
We selected the Big Ragu based upon reviews on Open Table. It is a quiet little place on the corner of Lansdowne. We went to meet another couple for a birthday celebration. From the beginning we were met by very attentive and friendly service. The food was amazing and the Chef came out to make sure we enjoyed our dinner. We were loud and stayed well past anyone else. No one hurried us or asked us to leave. This is one of those wonderful neighbourhood restaurants that I truly hope people frequent. Such kindness and quality. Fresh homemade food. Go!
This was a family get together/birthday, with grandparents, parents, and grandchildren, so the atmosphere and service had to accommodate a wide range, as did the food/drink options, - ranging from carnivorous to vegan! Everything fell into place perfectly, - the kids felt free (no, not noisy!), the service was great, and the staff had exactly the right measure friendliness.
We would definitely recommend!
Pasta especially gnocchi and ravioli are excellent at this restaurant. The owner chef makes them himself and they are delicious. The decor still in place from the previous owner is well... a bit odd and could use an update. The service was excellent and attentive. We will go back and enjoy the pasta another time!
Want good food with friends, this friendly intimate eatery is a very enjoyable Choice. Reasonable prices and great service and a wide variety of Italian specialities to choose from without pretention makes for a very relaxed atmosphere. If you want a place where your conversations can be had without raising your voice against the din, this is the oasis for you.
We felt like we had stepped back into Italy. What a fantastic find. The fresh homemade pasta was excellent. The wine list was limited but decent. Our server was also fantastic, again making us think we were in a small neighbourhood Italian eatery. I would recommend this for anyone.
Took my elderly parents for a Father's Day celebration. Slightly difficult access for them as there is a bus stop directly in front of the restaurant so I couldn't drop them there. But great service once inside: friendly, considerate and easy to hail when we needed help. Crostini appetizer was superb, and was sufficient for the four of us. Mains were a range of OK to excellent - the signature pasta dish (the `Big Ragu' ) was a disappointment, as the lamb was not first quality (too fatty); however, the two different ravioli specials were both excellent (tip for the future, always order off the blackboard as the pasta items listed there are all made fresh on site). Tiramisu for dessert surpassed the standard offering in Toronto, which is already high. My parents thoroughly enjoyed it all, so we'll be back.
We received prompt and curtesous service at the Big Ragu. The waitresses were attentive and accommodating for our requests. For example we wanted an ice bucket for our red wine. No problem. A little more bread. No problem. I found the service very good without over doing it. The restaurant is small enough that you can easily get the waitresses' attention.
The complimentary bread and tapas was delicious. Our mains were very good. The desserts were run of the mill but adequate. Only complaint from my husband is he would have liked more potatoes on his plate. Overall experience was good!
I took my mother to The Big Ragu and we were both so satisfied with our meals. We were greeted by friendly staff and the chef came out and asked us about our food which made us feel so at home. This is a perfect restaurant to bring your family for any special occasion. Boy will we be back!
My husband and I came here for dinner on a cold winter night and it was a delightful experience. The restaurant is small and cozy and the service was attentive. The food is exceptional. Everything is made to order so it is hot and fresh. I will definitely be returning and recommend it to fellow foodies! You will not be disappointed!
Excellent home made pasta with nicely balanced (and rich) sauces. The crab ravioli was stellar, and the gnocchi is out of this world.
Portion sizes are very fair (without being excessive) so I'd recommend skipping the primi unless you're a very big eater or plan on sharing it.
With friendly service, good food and reasonable prices, this is a family run neighbourhood gem.
Check out gnocchi Thursdays for a great dinner special.
