The fried mushrooms and The lentil soup was amazing!
Always awesome food! Service was slow this time. Somewhat out of the ordinary. My wife was born and raised in Munich area. This is one of a very few German restaurants she’ll go to. Try the Aventinus beer! The best by far
The food was amazing, and our server was excellent!
Authentic, great tasting German cuisine.
Great food. Great beer! We always enjoy our experience at the Bier Garden. The authentic German food is wonderful...takes me back to mother's cooking. Serving staff is helpful interpreting the massive beer list. The ambiance is great, too.
Really enjoyed our dinner; I had the Schweine Schnitzel and it was excellent; my son had some bratwurst and the wife had Rouladen. All were great, and for dessert we shared a German Chocokate cake (by 7 PM they had already run out of Black Forest Cake) a Apfel Strudel (not sure is the spelling was like that on purpose or not). My son and I both had some different beers on tap, they were great! Would recommend to everybody!
Excellent food and service. There was a party happening which made it a bit noisy, but once the party left, it was perfect.
We lived in Germany for ten years. Sorry this was not good German food. My husband loved the beer that was it. The käsespätzle was horrible. We never had bad German food in Germany. But this was sooooo bad.
Our server was friendly and attentive; the Bex Riesling was so good; the red cabbage is to die for; the rouladen is second to none; and my son tried new food--a wonderful evening!
Wonderful German food...the beer selection is outstanding.
Normally love the Bier Garden, but something was off this time. Wife got the schweine schnitzel, with potato salad and cucumber salad, and that was delicious as usual. I got the gulasch with spätzle, and this is where it went off the rails. The spätzle flavor was bland and the portion of gulasch was very small. I'll continue to eat here, and will especially enjoy the very large selection of beer.
My friends and i will definitely be coming back for lunch dates. this place had a great vibe, amazing food, and was overall a really great place to choose for my prom dinner. affordable and just a great place. the german cheesecake is so delicious !
Our server Megan was great with a large group of people. The table was ready in advance and we enjoyed a very pleasant and comfortable meal.
Not like it used to be, great service and beverages, but a downcheck on the quality of the food particularly the jagerschnitzel which was "average" at best.
There were 8 in our group and we all agreed that we ejoyed the charm of the restaurant as well as the food. It was a perfect evening for eating outdoors.
We enjoyed a delicious dinner beers from the tap and dessert. Service was fast and curtious and we love the atmosphere of the Bier Garden. We bring OOT guests often.
We had a wonderful experience. Our group of 7 was seated promptly and given excellent service. Highly recommend!
My wife and I date here once a month. Always a favorite to try new beer and the German food
Went to celebrate my birthday. Great food and service.
Reasonable schnitzel, potato salad, and cabbage- presentation could have been a bit better. Home style meal.
Great German food! Loved it but have to say it's very noisy too so go with that in mind and you won't be disappointed.
Great food, wonderful staff. I always enjoy going there and reliving my many years of living in Germany.
No complaints. The food tasted great and the portion sizes were also great. Great experience.
Great food and an amazingly large list of beers. Went on a Tuesday and it was pretty quiet.
We absolutely loved The Bier Garden! My husband had wanted to find a German restaurant in the area but hadn't been able to find one until I found The Bier Garden on OpenTable. A nice and cozy and little place in downtown Portsmouth with great food and great service. Not really knowing much about German food, I read up on the menu before we got there. We both ordered the Sweiner Schintzel with the fried potatoes. Too much food for me though! I had enough for lunch yesterday! The service was great, too! The young lady was very knowledgeable about the menu.
Every February we drive 3 hours to The Beir Garden to celebrate our German heritage friend’s birthday. He says it is the best German food around and we have to agree. See you next February! Your Maryland friends love The ambience too!
Great place for a dinner date with the significant other
Had the best time celebrating our anniversary here the other night. It’s always been a favorite of my family so I was very excited to introduce my boyfriend to it. The service was fantastic and the food(as always) was amazing! He also loved everything and insisted we come back very soon.
Have loved this place for many years! Always friendly staff.
Always great when we go there for dinner and drinks. The meal, the beer were excellent. I recommend
it to anyone looking for good meal, drinks and atmosphere.
The food was absolutely delicious. The service was phenomenal. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. I cannot wait to go back!
The Bier Garden is wonderfully reminiscent of many Gasthauses I enjoyed in Germany. The food is outstanding and the beer selection superb!
Amazing food as always!! Gift shop was very nice too.
We had a great time getting a group together for my husband’s birthday! We will definitely be back and whole heartedly recommend to others looking for authentic German food and beer!
Always great food and service.
We eat lunch here every month - always good! Beer choices are great
Fantastic German food. Definitely a great meal, very family friendly.
We had a reservation but the table wasn't available. Had to wait for one. We were eventually seated next to a table with 6 VERY noisy and poorly behaved children. No other place available. Service was very slow. Three of us waited nearly an hour for our food. One of our party got her food early. We told her to eat so it wouldn't get cold. She had finished her meal by the time we got ours. When we received our meals, two of our party had items missing. These were brought out when we notified our server, however, they were cold. We did not send them back because we were going to be late for our next engagement. Most of the desserts on the menu were not available (a German restaurant without German chocolate cake?).
Mostly a very poor dining experience. None of us plan to return.
The Bier Garden continues to be one of the best places to eat and remains our go to place for any celebrations. The selection of German food is unsurpassed in the region. Portion sizes are spot on and the goulash soup is the best I have had -- even compared to most restaurants in Germany. Certainly appreciate the wide selection of beers on tap & in bottles.
Service was just a little slow, but food was wonderful. Staff friendly , and courteous. Enjoyable evening
