The Bent Brick - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Hostess was rude. Even though the place was mostly empty at an early hour on a Tuesday, she would only seat us in the most uncomfortable table right next to the galley. Once we saw there were only 4 entrees on the menu (none of which really seemed that exciting) we decided to walk out and dine elsewhere.
The service was horrible. We called before to ask if they have a bar we can sit at, they declined rudely.
So when we sat down, they immediately ask what we want, haven't given us time to read the menu. And the restaurant was filled 30% at the time. A big group behind our table has taken a chair from another table, the host came over and claimed the chair back for the table to seat new customers, kicking the big group out (they are paid customers too), while there were 6-7 more other tables available. It was not a good impression in a restaurant.
Our wait staff was stiff and not friendly, no smiles on her face, maybe they don't want our business. And she hardly came over to our table. We had had empty plates sitting there for 15 minutes before someone else came cleaned them up.
Food was so-so. The pappardelle hardly has any beef, one little chewy piece. The pork chop was over cooked, the chocolate pudding cake was bland and very dense, like a brick, maybe that's how they got their name.
By the time we left, the restaurant still had some empty tables. It was 7:30pm on a Friday night.
Flavors fell flat for most dishes in our party-- as if each was missing a key spice or herb. As a result, food was just "ok". Our waitress was a bit rude and abrasive... Ie first time to our table she said, "what do you want to drink?" without making eye contact or a simple hello/welcome, as if our presence at her table was burdensome. Had high hopes, but do not plan on returning any time soon. The decor is inviting and the hostess was helpful in that our table was running behind so she called us when it was ready as we headed across the street to Paymaster for drinks.
My husband and I split on our enjoyment of the meal so I'm bumping the stars from a 4 to a 3 due to the very high salt content of a few of the dishes, but my part of the meal was quite good. I was also full by the time we got to the extremely salty gnocchi dish, so I only had a taste, but since I was too full to eat any more I didn't care as much as the one who was counting on it for fulfillment.
But I thought the salads were great and the side dishes excellent. There was a lot of variety and everything was fresh and the choices varied. I would love to return if I can talk the spouse into giving it another try. The staff was great and the place is as cute as can be.
What an incredible place to eat. Warm & inviting atmosphere & the food is Beyond Delicious. Creative Presentation!!! Custom made Cocktails, Yummy Entrees & Desserts that most only dream about eating!
I have eaten here 3x's this month & each time have ordered the exact same thing as it was so Satisfying & Delicious!
What to Eat: Mussels, Wild Salad w/mustard seed vinaigrette, Butternut Soup w/Marshmallow Pat, Short Rib w/root veggies & Rice Pudding that is Definitely not like your Mother used to make it!
To start off, the staff was VERY nice and attended to us well - no issue there. It really just came down to the food, which we found to be average. I'm no great cook, but I felt I could make similar dishes at home in terms of taste. Yes, they were elaborate, but I've had elaborate food that was special - this just didn't hit the mark for us. We don't drink, but it looked like they had an excellent bar and wine selection. Small - a little loud - which was fine.
My husband and I found this place when looking for a restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. What a treat! Everyone was exceptionally friendly and the kitchen really treated us to a spectacular tasting dinner. We will definitely go here next time we're in town!
A table for four - we ordered the tasting menu - small plate option- $50 per vs. $60 per. That was a mistake. The served portions (to be split into fourths) were smaller than the appetizer portions shown in the photos on their website. We departed hungry with a bill of over $300.
We tried the tasting menu. The portions were the largest 'tasting' portions we've ever had. It was items stright off the menu and they were great. We had 5 appitizers, 2 entrees and 2 desserts and also had a wine pairng which had some highlights. Would highly recommend the tasting menu.
Great location! Great service! Beautiful building! Fantastic food beyond your usual new American fare!! The chef's tasting menu is a unique and interesting experience that allows you to sample all of the items on the menu as well as engage a group of diners. The seasonal menu was diverse and flavorful. The drink menu offers selections for all tastes. The servers are delightful and knowledgeable about the food. A wonderful dining experience!
This is a restaurant we have had on our list to try. We sat outside under the grape arbor on a really nice patio. It was very pleasant. We started we drinks...they have Old Fashions on tap...delicious! We then moved on to the cheese plate and lovely bread with smoked butter. For our entree we split Braised Beef Cheeks. So good! The service was great too! Very helpful, friendly, and attentive. Go try The Bent Brick!
Walking in you enter an unusual but inviting decor. And that carries over to the food. The food presentation was really interesting. My only quibble was with the oysters. While they were tasty, they weren't chilled and had a few shell fragments. The service was wonderful.
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but no more! The tasting menu has always been an exciting array of small plates, but I was disappointed in the offerings and the flavors did not "pop" as they used to. Maybe they have a new chef? Our primary waitperson was miserable! She almost seemed put out to be serving, like it was a chore to be there. It made for an uncomfortable meal, not sure I will return.
We had reservations on a very hot summer evening. Didn't wan't too cook, so a trip to a nice Air Conditioned restaurant seemed like a good plan. When we arrived, it was too hot to be there. I mean WAY too hot. After looking at the menu, there wasn't anything paired to the summer season. It looked a a perfect fall menu. We we try to go back in the fall.
Went after a great Timbers game. Things were slow and I was surprised at the rush of food pacing. We hadn't finished or had our cheese plate starter long when the waitress was trying to consolidate our plates to tell us our main entries were coming. So serving and pacing of food needs improvement and plus I asked for a second drink that never came. Finally she came back after I finished my entry to ask again. Rather than say sorry she was like oh let me check on that. Better accountability or saying that's on me would be appreciated.
No need to wait in-line for a table. Same day reservations available. We had a party of four and all had different entrees. We could not pick the best dish. They were all so delicious. This place is a great choice for people who want to enjoy a NW take on classic dishes, but don't want to deal with the crowds.
The chef works with his team very well including the staff. The dishes are well prepared, great portion, and many different ways to utilize the menu for your dinning experience. Great outdoor seating area and the staff were awesome! The cocktails were definitely crafted and go with the seasonal produce. Would definitely go back.
We had a great experience at Bent Brick a few years ago. Scott Dolich has again hit it out of the park. I strongly recommend the tasting menu as it's a good way to explore the flavor combinations Scott and his team have put together. We will definitely be returning.
We first tried Bent Brick with a large group and decided to taste the entire chef's menu. What a great experience! We loved it so much that my husband and I decided to come back sans-kids and we had a wonderful dinner. The food, service, and even the music channel they played was really good. The waitstaff was also great with our 18 month old daughter. This has quickly become one of our favorites; the chefs really know what they are doing, and the prices are very reasonable. Great cocktail menu too.
