The Bellwether is the debut restaurant and bar from Executive Chef/Owner Ted Hopson and Beverage Director/ Owner Ann-Marie Verdi. The market-inspired menu aims to capitalize on the abundance of California produce and relationships with local purveyors in order to showcase a one-of-a-kind menu that features family-style shareable dishes. Cocktails continue the seasonally-focused theme with an emphasis on unique infusions that provide an unexpected twist on familiar flavors. Or choose from the hand-selected list of beer and wine that showcases Verdi’s intimate knowledge of the beverage space. The Bellwether is open for dinner nightly and for brunch on the weekends. We heard it was just so-so, but thought we would try it for ourselves. Fried cauliflower, brussel sprouts, the steak tartare everything we had was absolutely perfect

Wonderful food and service. Dishes were creative and delicious. The French fries are incredible as are the Brussel sprouts, meatballs, octopus and roasted carrots - yum! We will be back.

Excellent service, very friendly, courteous and real. Nothing felt stuffy. The food is proportioned nicely and meant to be savored. Pasta was cooked perfectly...so good. Unfortunately the Pan Roasted Halibut this evening was overly salty, but things happens. Would I return, absolutely!

Had not been in a a long time. Wow! The food was amazing! Some of the best blending of flavors I have had in a long time. Noise level is distracting but worth the decimal levels just to taste these creations. GO!

The brunch menu is just awful. After spending 50 between two people (no alcohol, just two teas), we left hungry and unsatisfied.

We were told everything was meant to be shared but the portions were tiny compared to other brunch places, flavor was lacking but prices were up there with other great brunch spots.

The service is not accommodating. So much so, that a party that sat down next to us left cause the restaurant refused to cut the wedge salad. The place was empty, I'd think they would want to do everything to keep patrons happy.

When I expressed how I felt about our meal, our waiter simply walked off...

very disappointing. Food was over-seasoned - with too much Indian influence. The cauliflower was decent and the burrata with grapes was good, but that was due to the buratta, not the cooking. The lamb sausage and halibut were below average -- the halibut was overcooked and, again, over-seasoned.

It is with giddy satisfaction that I submit this glowing review of The Bellwether. My only regret is that the ladies I was with did not share the same interest in octopus that I do so I didn't get to try it. Sharing is ideal. Cocktails (Manhattan and Old Fashioned) were both well made. Can't wait to return.

Very enjoyable evening. Very good food, very good service. All small plates though and I would have preferred a few larger plate options. Not everyone likes the whole sharing trend and it can be tricky when in a larger group and there are various competing dietary restrictions to work around. The cocktails were particularly good. Would return.

small plates meant to be shared. Delicious food. On the expensive side. We also ordered too much food not realizing that items on the bottom of the menu list were dinner sized. But the flavors were wonderful.

I'd never had a lamb sausage dish served at room temperature before. I don't think I'd want to try it again. The french fries that they're known for were very good and the wine list had some good choices.

Food was good an innovative. The pasta was delicious! Prime rib too big with all the other items we choose. Dessert was a huge disappointment. Do not use crunchy peaches in a cobbler. Fruit should be ripe for best flavor. But if you going to add unripe fruit, cook it until it is tender. Peaches should never be served crunchy

The service was great and the food even better. We had started with the Burrata and Grapes which was fantastic and then had the Tempura Cauliflower which was really tasty. The Patty Melt and French fries were absolutely awesome and the bread pudding for dessert was the perfect way to top off the meal.

This restaurant is in our neighborhood so we decided to give it a try. We sat outside and it was moderately loud but we were able to hear our conversation. The staff was friendly and laidback, there was no rush to get us out of the restaurant-which was nice. The food was delicious and the cranberry mules were great. We also liked that you can order small plates and share them. I would go back.

Food was very good - most dishes works, especially the octopus and and vegetarian dishes. However, service was kind of rushed, which doesn't work for a tapas place.

It’s surprising that this restaurant isn’t more popular, given most of the other gastropubs in the area are continually stuffed to the rafters, but it was oddly empty when we visited (a Sunday night). The menu sounds like it was written by a “foodologist” rather than a chef, but it tastes fantastic so we forgave them that.

The only thing we weren’t blown away by was the thing that we had originally went there for! After seeing there patty melt on Jonathan Gold’s 101 list, we were determined to try it, and we tried everything we could. Charred octopus? Phenomenal. I wasn’t in love with the sides but my boyfriend loved them, the actual tentacle itself was cooked perfectly. The duck was great, with a ju that wasn’t too overwhelming, as well as the meatballs (very flavorful and very filling). We ended up going to the Patty melt last and the bread was drier than cardboard, and a little too toasted in some spots. It was a dim way to end, but the blackberry cocktail was great, the service was attentive, and I imagine that the rest of there menu is decadent. If you’re looking for a new place to go and don’t mind dropping a couple hundred on a casual meal, I’d highly recommend giving it a try.
