Contemporary American
The Bellwether is the debut restaurant and bar from Executive Chef/Owner Ted Hopson and Beverage Director/ Owner Ann-Marie Verdi. The market-inspired menu aims to capitalize on the abundance of California produce and relationships with local purveyors in order to showcase a one-of-a-kind menu that features family-style shareable dishes. Cocktails continue the seasonally-focused theme with an emphasis on unique infusions that provide an unexpected twist on familiar flavors. Or choose from the hand-selected list of beer and wine that showcases Verdi’s intimate knowledge of the beverage space. The Bellwether is open for dinner nightly and for brunch on the weekends. I dined @ Bellwether yesterday with two of my girlfriends who had never eaten there. I have only dined @ Bellwether for dinner. It was a very pleasant experience since it was quiet and the food was very good. We shared the egg white frittata, chilaquiles and a plate of pastries. We all enjoyed our food and the ambiance was very nice and peaceful. I would like to go back and try more of the dishes @ Bellwether.

We had a wonderful, relaxing brunch at The Bellwether and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. The service was warm and professional, and we were particularly impressed with the Brunch Manager, Emily, who did a great job ensuring that every table was receiving good service, the wait staff were “on target,” and even that the kitchen kept things moving properly. The food was excellent and our party of five enjoyed sharing many different dishes. Weather permitting, I suggest a table outside on the patio, or if indoors ask for a booth.

Absolutely fabulous every time! You have to get the burrata and grapes, the lamb sausage and of course the french fries!

Bellwether is an instant conversation starter - from "what should we share?" to "ooh, you should try this!"
From sterling standbys like the Best French Fries Ever to the OMG-ness of the bread pudding and salted caramel ice cream, life with friends is good here. Try the bar seating for a master class on good cooking and presentation.

While the food was delicious, the chairs were horribly uncomfortable. I wouldn’t come back unless I could sit in a booth

The service and food at The Bellwether were great! Good opportunity to try many options and share with dining partner. I am visiting family in Studio city, and based on our pleasant experience we decided we would plan a return trip to The Bellwether before I leave the area.

I am a local and I've been there a few times prior to this visit and those visits were fine. Not special, just fine. This visit was a little disappointing. The service, atmosphere, and food was just 'okay' at best. I am sorry for this review. Maybe it was just an off night.

This has been my neighborhood restaurant. I've been going an average of once a week since late in January 2016 and the many has changed often enough to keep me thoroughly interested, It was the first place I used my walker to get to after a knee replacement operation in November for an item on the brunch menu I had been thinking about during my recuperation. Tuesday is a free-corkage night, so I brought a sparkling wine to go with the scallop crudo in a tangerine-cilantro liquid with watermelon radishes and the tempura cauliflower - the scallops are a new dish, the cauliflower is one of the perennials on the menu. Service was excellent. It's great to live near a restaurant like this.

I need to eat here more often. It’s a true foodie spot but without the “”we’re so precious “ attitude. The menu is creative and they have some cool drinks. My only comment that may seem negative, and it’s not the restaurants fault, is that everyone comes and goes at the same time - in by 6:30 out by 9:30. But it is the valley ha!

We didn't have the greatest experience at this restaurant. My wife chose it as a place to go for her birthday dinner. We showed up about 10 minutes past our reservation time but had to wait almost an extra 30 minutes (no big deal because sometimes we understand guests don't leave exactly when they are done). The hostess was very friendly and nice. Once we got seated our waiter wasn't that friendly and the food wasn't that great... much of it felt too greasy. Two folks in the group had burgers and said they were good but the rest of us weren't too pleased with our food. Maybe we just showed up on a bad day??

A valley bellwether, the spot has now consistently provided top-notch food to 818 denizens without trying to overdo it. Not fancy, not pretentious, just genuinely elevated cuisine. And though on certain dishes the flavor balance is 'off' (eg coconut curry), other dishes are spot-on (tangerine/creme fraiche scallops). A really welcome addition to the SFV has now deservedly become a mainstay.

30 minutes to get beef tartare to the table. Curry with suntichokes and toasted tuna were both run of the mill and tiny.

I took a friend for Brunch on a Saturday. There weren't many people dining so it was nice and quiet. They had an interesting menu but we stuck to some old favorites, salmon Benedict (delicious on a honey bisquit) and yummy French toast. Our waiter was very chatty and attentive which was nice. All in all a very good experience and I'll look forward to trying it for dinner soon.

Good but it’s a “sharing” place so good comes out as it’s ready. Fine at night but not great for brunch....we didn’t plan to share our entrees and as they didn’t come out together that left one person waiting for their brunch. All 3 mains were similar in cooking so could have come together. Brunch isn’t a shared experience it turns out for me! Only coffee...no lattes, etc. fine but not great

Went to restaurant for LA dine week with hubby.
Choose 6 plates. Burrata with grapes was fresh and tasty. The charred octopus-outstanding.The sun-chocked curry - was good, the naan not so much. The pasta with ragu- decent.
The other choices- meatballs, burger- nothing special.
Great beer selection and very nice service.
Would have liked to have a desert option in the plate choices for the Dine LA week menu.

Bellwether might be the best restaurant in the Valley, and, let's be honest Sherman Oaks and Studio City have a lot of great competition. We sat at the bar and enjoyed course after course, each as amazing as the one before, but, the best part was watching the chefs taste, adjust, taste adjust, only sending plates out when they meet the mark. You can sense the joy in the kitchen and that makes a world of difference.
