I really enjoyed my visit to this restaurant! Chelsea our server was great! I look forward to visiting this place again!
We were visiting from out of town and read great things about this restaurant. It lived up to the review that the ambiance and the food were great . The duck small plate was very juicy and the sauce was complex and amazing . The Kobe beef noodle dish is spicy and flavorful . The homemade shakes come in unusual, delicious flavors . It was a rocking place on a Thursday night at 8 so be sure to make reservations.
always good, great wait staff and food is always good
Just a bunch of friends getting brunch. Drinks were a little watered down but food was amazing
It’s always so good! My favorite place in memphis to eat!
Great food, great atmosphere, great service.. A wonderful neighborhood gem. Quite the retro atmosphere, great music.
Our family had dinner at The Beauty Shop prior to attending a performance at the Orpheum. We had a fun waitress who explained the menu well. The atmosphere is so much fun! As soon as we walked in, we knew that we were going to have a fun experience. The food was amazing!!! We ordered the calamari and the duck for our appetizer; both delicious. The calamari does not come with cocktail sauce. It isn't needed. The seasoning added to the batter needs nothing else. The duck was not gamey tasting. It was just simple and sweet. Two of us ordered the Ribeye, which was a special for the night. And two of us ordered the lamb chops. WOW! If you were participating in a blind taste test, you would have never guessed that you were eating lamb. It was tender and flavor full. I have already recommended the restaurant to friends who will be in the area. I also have made plans with my mother to take her there for her birthday in April. I think she will enjoy the nostalgia and the music played.
I am glad that I read previous reviews to know about the small parking lot beside the restaurant and the parking attendant in the orange vest. Parking is hard to find, if you are not able to use this lot. Go and enjoy! It is worth it. My husband told me I made a great selection.
Creative decor and lots of different options for salads and entrees. Very solicitous staff. Best of all, excellent food.
This restaurant is fun and delicious. It has several items on the menu that are enticing. It is always packed for brunch so one needs to plan ahead with a reservation. I had two different colored hairs in my breakfast sandwich. I have no idea what happened. I have 50 year old eyes so didn't see them until I was half way finished. My daughter said they were there when I picked up the sandwich but we were entertaining a friend and visiting her college nearby so my daughter didn't want to say anything when she initially saw it and I was so grossed out that I'd eaten most of it when I discovered the hairs in the sunlight! haha But I still return...with my magnifier..
Enjoyable evening. We were a party of 6 for dinner on a Saturday. Noise level was very loud. Meal was very good but pricey and all ala carte. Server was very nice but bar and dessert orders were slow.
The food was great! My server was very knowledgeable about the menu and off menu items. Will definitely go back!
The best item we ordered was the balsamic maple glazed carnitas. Also the Nantucket scallops and shrimp dish was delicious!
Love this restaurant. Food always top notch with service to match. Normally we sit at the bar which is fun and food is always great. This time we had a table which was equally enjoyable ! It is somewhat loud by design of the ceiling. Otherwise another wonderful night filled with great food and excellent service.
The Beauty Shop was been wonderful every time we visit. One of our favorite date nights. Great food, cool atmosphere, and wonderful service.
AWESOME FOOD CHOICES..
Food was delightful and beautifully arranged. Service was impeccable.
On a 1-Poor to 10-Excellent scale: Parking-0: All parking lots and spaces near the restaurant belonged to another restaurant. They don't advertise it, but nearby parking is $5.00, collected by an attendant who has no ID and no receipts. She could have been a stranger off the street who just put on an orange & white vest & collected money. Street parking is BLOCKS away. Would be great if the restaurant validated parking or at least let you know in advance. Their specialty was chicken & waffles, which was my 1st order. Waitress came back to say they were out of it at about 12:45 & they do brunch till 3. I ordered French toast-strawberry which i selected from what I THOUGHT was fruit choices. The waitress was sweet, but I think she was new. When the order came, it had ALL of the fruit on it. (Mango, strawberries, & some type of berry) The waitress, Chelsea said as she was putting it in front of me, that it came with all of the fruit. The white inside of my coffee cup looked as if it had not been successfully washed out in a very long time. It had a brown and white waterfall appearance on the inside. The other server that served my fruit salad didn't notice, but her finger was inside the bowl touching one of the berries with no gloves on. My friend asked for soft scrambled eggs. Her 1st order came hard fried. The second order came soft fried but she just kept them. Her grits and sausage were both lukewarm. The French toast was tasty after I scraped off the mango and other fruit that wasn't strawberry. My friend's waffles were great and the sausage was very tasty. The décor gets a rating of about 2.5. I think they are overstretching the terms vintage and eclectic. The tables & hair booths just looked old ..... very. The mixed matched glasses, cups and plates were way beyond vintage and was more junky than eclectic. No, we will not be returning. A lot of people were there, but it was definitely not our scene.
We were visiting Memphis and this place contributed to a special trip. The location is a former beauty shop, and the decor, which was tastefully done, incorporated elements from the old business. The food was excellent, complex flavors and ingredient combinations that worked well. Good for vegetarians as well as carnivores. Great service.
We were there this past Sunday and it was amazing service with amazing food. We have been here several times before and this place has never disappointed.
Food was great and our waitress was friendly.
The food was amazing. And the wine selection was superb! But we could barely hear across the table because it was so loud.
always the BEST! Its my one and only lunch and brunch spot!
There were two things that didn’t make my experience excellent. The mimosa was so filled with ice that it watered it down, and secondly we were automatically charged gratuity on a party of 5.
Today had seemed like a pretty rough service day for their infamous and very popular Sunday brunch. I had a reservation at 11:45 AM and I still waited for about another 10 minutes. Once finally seated at the table I had to grab my own bottle of water sitting at the next table.
I was a solo diner to be fair, but I always felt like I was being ignored. My order was nearly correct minus the pecans in the banana pancakes as I had asked for. They were busy, and then had thinned out some. I couldn’t quite understand why all of the disorganization today? They were apologetic. I would come back but probably not when it’s so darn busy and noisy.
I would return, but I didn't like my table closest to the kitchen with a draft. Trout and corn was very good. Serving not overly large. A little loud but the service was great. A good neighborhood place to dine.
Great food, slow service ,
Family all enjoyed our food, great menu selections, cute atmosphere without being too kitschy.
Great out of the way place. Nothing fancy, but great food
Really enjoyed the meal - however service was a bit slow - there was only one person waiting tables
Cute place, love the food...service started just fine, but the server came by every few minutes to ask if I was finished when I clearly was not. Guess I wasn’t moving fast enough for her - she then completely ignored me, while passing my table several times - I finally left for the bathroom, and she managed to pay attention when she thought I might skip out! Very disappointing!!!!
We love Beauty Shop. The food is great and the service is excellent. My wife is vegan and I am vegetarian and their dinner menu, especially the small plates, has options for both of us. The waitress was also very helpful in offering tips on how to veganize a few of the dishes. We mentioned that we were there celebrating our anniversary and the hostess/owner immediately moved us to a booth which was quieter and more private, we really appreciated this. Overall we had a wonderful meal.
Unique authentic Beautyshop atmosphere with surprisingly exceptional food. The service was exceptional and did not bother us or hurry us out. A really fun environment. Make reservations.
Our dining experiences here have always been nothing short of incredible. The creativity and imagination behind the well-executed and well-planned menu has us coming back again and again , and the service is excellent as well.
One of the best restaurants in Memphis.
Great prices, great product, great service, creative cuisine, tasteful, unique decor.
It was my first time dining at The Beauty Shop, and it couldn’t have been a better experience. The food, drinks, and service were EXCEPTIONAL!!!
All the food I've ever had here is exemplary. This is probably the most creative menu I've seen in Memphis. It's not quite as fancy as, say, Iris or Flight, but the flavors are overall more adventurous. The service has never been bad, but it's not always great (which I expect at this price point). Lunch here is surprisingly a good value. Dinner is naturally more expensive, but I think it's worth it for a special occasion. It's one of my favorite menus in the city.
Disappointed. Poor service and expensive for food quality
One of Memphis’ hidden gems in Cooper Young, The Beauty Shop really was at one time a hair salon. Priscilla Presley is reported to have been a patron!
A salon no longer, the Beauty Shop is not a presumptuous or large place. You can dress up or dress down. If you have group of 5 ask for one of the more secluded booths. It tends to get crowded at the front door at peak times, so either come early or late or make a reservation (strongly recommended).
The mixologist can whip up a special or your favorite. My Grey Goose Cosmo was perfectly blended and chilled. A great start to the first course - a Thai style dumpling with mint that was plenty to share.
The restaurant specializes in seasonal plates and the pumpkin starter my companion had was delicious. We skipped the salad and each ordered favorites - a great coffee-rubbed steak with terrific fried baked potato bites (think a loaded baked potato that looks like a French fry with a delicate Panko crust) and a melt in your mouth pork shoulder with Napa cabbage slaw and some lovely sauces all around plus a slightly sweet Johnnycake to offset the savory. The perfect bite - pork, slaw, sauce, cake — heavenly...
Dessert was a slightly dry lemon pound cake with Fresh strawberries, homemade ice cream and Chantilly cream. This was a new dessert for us. I strongly recommend their gelato and the cannelloni if you come.
We had a lovely Valentines dinner with very friendly, smiling service. The staff was dressed for the evening and made everything feel special.
If you’re looking for a cool place, great menu, eclectic decor where you can really feel the Memphis vibe, check out The Beauty Shop. You won’t be disappointed.
