Overall it was a pleasant experience! There was a wait when we arrived but we got right in thanks to the reservations we made through Open Table. This was our first time at the Beauty Shop. The ambiance was nice complete with hair dryers! The food was really good! Both the chicken & waffles and shrimp & grits were excellent! I look forward to going back. There were other things on the menu is like to try!
The food is always an amazing combination of different flavors that blend beautifully!!
Always wonderful! Love the new art and chairs!
Great atmosphere, food choices unique, interesting, and absolutely delicious! I had the warm farm salad and I could have eaten about five of those and rolled out the door utterly happy. I would drive back to Memphis just for that. Love this place!
For the purposes of this meal it was on point. Menu options are great. Service is excellent. Ambiance is just right. Not too loud or quiet. Got a nice retro feel yet modernized. I would come back again. Big sweets guy. So the desert options are important to me. The gelato options are really different, makes you want to try multiple options. So order the 3 scoops.
I was so excited to come here after seeing the reviews. It was good, but not stellar. And for the prices I would like stellar. The guac is really tasty, the scallops and shrimp are good, but again, it didn't blow me away. If it had cost $15, I would have been thrilled. My friend got the honey crisp apple salad and the calamari, both of which just needed something else to put them over the edge. The beautini martini had no taste of pineapple, but instead tasted like sucking on a vanilla bean. The strawberry cake was really, really good. Figures, as it was not made IN the restaurant. Service is beyond slow, so don't go if you're in a hurry.
Love this spot! Creative, delicious food and drink! Love the vibe and the owner is awesome.
Service was fantastic! Seems there were new waitresses but they were paired with experienced ones. Everyone welcoming! Food....ahhhh! We all tried something different...only complaint was we all wanted to try each others meals and no one wanted to share! I had the chicken and waffles....I had always been reluctant to try a piece of fried chicken and a waffle...now my question is why? They are perfect together!
Advertised as brunch... had no brunch food ?
Great! Always good.
Terrific lunch and funky ambiance.
Hidden gem, people should be lining up to dine here. Branzino was crispy outside and moist and tender inside. Drinks were great and the red velvet cake was to die for. If you make a trip to Memphis this needs to be a stop for dinner.
Great food; wonderful service. Fun funky place. I had the traditional eggs benedict. Excellent.
Absolutely loved this historic experience. The shampoo stations, mirrors, lighting , not to mention the eclectic menu, full of southern favs. I loved my biscuits and gravy and the chicken and waffles were excellent. The highlight was the broiled grapefruit! I would go back tomorrow if I could.
The beauty shop always offers a great experience- between the food and atmosphere, you can’t go wrong.
This restaurant is probably good for a ladies lunch, but I brought my kids and it wasn’t that kid friendly. My son got the pasta and it was hard, but he enjoyed the sauce. I had to order an adult burger for my 4 year old. The waitress left us waiting for our check for some time. I left with the kids and my husband waited for the check and they only remembered us was when a lady came to bus the table.
Each ordered one of the specials for the evening. Fish was good (pompano), cast iron grilled steak not so much.
As wonderful as always! My favorite go to with friends!
Wonderful, creative and great service. A family gathering with all ages satisfied
Went for Easter Brunch. It was delicious as usual. The service was excellent. Can’t wait to come back.
We booked an Easter brunch for our family of 4 and really looked forward to the meal based on the menu. The appetizer was the only item that gets good marks (beignets), the duck and poached eggs also seemed to be enjoyed by 2 others, no complaints voiced. My quiche was lukewarm, and gummed up with way too much cheese that was cooked ahead of time, pretty tasteless. The hash browns were lukewarm also. I wanted to send my food back back but didn’t want to ruin the other meals in our group. The Bloody Marys had cocktail sauce in them, tasted awful. Our last few experiences dining at the Beauty Shop have been just fair, disappointing based on price. They used to be reliably good, not sure what happened.
I went here for a post-birthday brunch with my husband. We tried to go once before but didn’t know how packed it would be. This is apparently the norm so definitely make reservations! The setting was cute, our server was awesome and even put a candle on my strawberry cake for my bday! My Benedict was fabulous as well and I surprising liked the grapefruit mimosa more than the classic. Definitely will be back!
The food, service and atmosphere was great. The climate was a problem. My family froze to death during the meal. They wanted to hurry up an eat so they could go outside to get warm. I was told the air is tied to the kitchen and if it is turned up then the cooks get hot. Co-worker said that he had same problem two weeks before we ate.
One of the best 5 restaurants in Memphis!!!
Great service!!!!! Great Easter!
Wonderful food and waitstaff if you’re looking for something outside of BBQ. Coming from Chicago, our standards for food and service are set high and The Beauty Shop definitely hit it out of the park. The menu options were great and the food itself was delicious. Great cocktails and good price point. I would recommend them to anyone visiting the Memphis area that wants a more upscale option that is not a “big box” restaurant.
We love the Beauty Shop and have been several times. This night however, their service was much slower than usual. It felt as if they were short a few people. We also made reservations weeks ahead and specifically requested a booth. When we arrived, I watched the hosted mark off our reservation on the computer, clicking on a booth. She then walked us over to a booth that was occupied and re-routed us to a table. We were a bit miffed, but thought it would be ok. However, our table was right next to the bamboo wall separating the restaurant from the bussing station, so we could hear the crashing plates and utensils throughout the meal. It was quite loud. The meal was wonderful, but took a long while to get to us. Sure it was a busy Saturday night, but we hadn't experienced such a long wait in between apps, trying to flag down our waitress for water, and mains before. Still a great place we love going to, but we felt like second-string guests this night.
The food was delicious and presented beautifully. The atmosphere was fun, lively and not too loud. The seating is eclectic and fun.
We visited Memphis over the weekend and made a special trip to the Beauty Shop for lunch. The atmosphere of this restaurant didn't disappoint--the vintage beauty salon decor is fantastic and the design is creative and fun. Maybe they were just having a bad day, but we found the service terrible. The waitress was curt with us as we ordered, never offered to refill our beverages (we were there almost 2 hours), never questioned why one member of our party only took 1 bite of his grilled cheese (it was terrible and he decided it wasn't worth trying to force it down), and then took 25 minutes to come back to the table once she ran our credit card. The menu is eclectic, but in addition to the grilled cheese, there were several other issues with the food--Lays potato chips substituted for "homemade, hand cut" potato chips without discussion, small salad portion, etc. The restaurant is a great neighborhood and it was packed with (mostly) women lunching and a baby shower. It has tremendous potential and did some things well (pastrami sandwich and turkey club), but I personally would not go back.
I had heard service had gone down hill but booked for a special birthday anyway. Food was good but the service was very disappointing.
The Israeli breakfast is an incredibly fresh combination of spices and fresh herbs and the flash fried duck in Beneduck was cooked perfectly. Definitely recommend this restaurant for brunch!
We had a great time at brunch as always! It was very lively and the hostess and server were beyond sweet and accommodating! Food was outstanding! Our favorite place for brunch :)
Three of us met for brunch Sunday. What an incredible experience! Our food and service were excellent. We also greatly enjoyed watching the beautiful plates of food being carried to the other diners. It was the best, most remarkable dining experience I have had in a very long time!
I really enjoyed my visit to this restaurant! Chelsea our server was great! I look forward to visiting this place again!
We were visiting from out of town and read great things about this restaurant. It lived up to the review that the ambiance and the food were great . The duck small plate was very juicy and the sauce was complex and amazing . The Kobe beef noodle dish is spicy and flavorful . The homemade shakes come in unusual, delicious flavors . It was a rocking place on a Thursday night at 8 so be sure to make reservations.
always good, great wait staff and food is always good
Just a bunch of friends getting brunch. Drinks were a little watered down but food was amazing
It’s always so good! My favorite place in memphis to eat!
Great food, great atmosphere, great service.. A wonderful neighborhood gem. Quite the retro atmosphere, great music.
Our family had dinner at The Beauty Shop prior to attending a performance at the Orpheum. We had a fun waitress who explained the menu well. The atmosphere is so much fun! As soon as we walked in, we knew that we were going to have a fun experience. The food was amazing!!! We ordered the calamari and the duck for our appetizer; both delicious. The calamari does not come with cocktail sauce. It isn't needed. The seasoning added to the batter needs nothing else. The duck was not gamey tasting. It was just simple and sweet. Two of us ordered the Ribeye, which was a special for the night. And two of us ordered the lamb chops. WOW! If you were participating in a blind taste test, you would have never guessed that you were eating lamb. It was tender and flavor full. I have already recommended the restaurant to friends who will be in the area. I also have made plans with my mother to take her there for her birthday in April. I think she will enjoy the nostalgia and the music played.
I am glad that I read previous reviews to know about the small parking lot beside the restaurant and the parking attendant in the orange vest. Parking is hard to find, if you are not able to use this lot. Go and enjoy! It is worth it. My husband told me I made a great selection.
