The Bazaar by José Andrés South Beach Ratings and Reviews
Eclectic creative menu for the adventurous diner. The waiter was extremely helpful in selecting items, and the delivery of courses was paced nicely to allow us to enjoy each item. Plan on allowing time to savor the meal and ordering 5-8 items. We had a wonderful experience and will be back!
We had a terrible experience at this restaurant. Our server "mistakenly" opened and poured a bottle of wine that was more than 3 times the price of the bottle that we ordered. He constantly and rudely tried to upsell us on the very expensive, tiny portions of food, at one point even refusing to bring one of the dishes we had ordered until we ordered "a protein to go with it". Aside from the service, the ridiculously small portions were laughable. What should have been a special evening was a huge disappointment.
We arrived early for our reservation and were seated right away with the hostess being very cordial and accommodating. Our server was there immediately and explained the menu in great detail and gave suggestions. We chose 8 items and 2 desserts. All were fantastic. Well crafted. Great use of ingredients. Unique presentations and flavors. The only thing I wished is that the food came out a little slower so we had more time to talk through and really savor each course, however that didn't take away from the experience at all, I just enjoy time trying to figure out how the magic was created. If you haven't been, I suggest you get there as soon as you can.
We had the tasting menu. Some of the courses were amazing and most of the others were very good. The problem is that one was inedible -- the fish en papillote was so overseasoned that neither my my nor I could stand to take more than one bite. I can't recommend a restaurant at this price point that puts out an inedible dish, even if everything else was great.
Bazaar was an amazing experience! I highly recommend the tasting menu & the sommelier was excellent in helping us chose a wine that paired well with our meal. The wine list is extensive & very impressive. The service was top notch and I would totally return for another special occasion.
We arrived the restaurant early for the reservation, it is located in the lobby of the nicely renovated hotel. There were two separate dining areas with different interior designs, but the hostess did not mention or provide us with the option where we would like to be seated.
The food was delicate, interesting and delicious. Our waiter was professional and knowledgeable, but there were few incidents that we had to wait for a long time between dishes and found it difficult to track him down. Comparing with the LA restaurant by Jose Andres, or other higher end gourmet restaurants in the area, I would recommend my friend to prioritize other places.
My husband and I have been in many great and expensive restaurants all over the world. The bazaar is surely one of them. However the food was not nearly as great and special as the waiter tried us make believe. We had a total of 10 Tapas which were all great but just not good or special enough to pay $260 for them. The quality of the food does not at allyour justify the price. Would not go back.
Also at one point our waiter was super rude to one of his collegues when they stood both at our table which was an awkward moment for us and made me feel just uncomfortable for the rest of the night.
Food and service are outstanding. Some of the most unique combinations of flavors— try the octopus as an example. The decor falls short - the dinning room wallpaper provides scenes of bookshelves as found in a library - not fitting of a “bazaar.” A must for foodies.
We've found ourselves following Chef José Andrés like religious disciples since being blown away by his Seafood Paella at Jaleo in Vegas a year ago. We searched and discovered his recipe for it which we've tried to re-create at home with only passable results.
So when we realized that Bazaar in the SLS Hotel in South Beach was by the same chef (I know...we're a little slow...we don't have José Andrés restaurants in Canada), we of course signed up.
The decor was stunning say the least, highlighted by a giant faux-coral encrusted chandelier and tan and white earth tones throughout the vaulted ceilinged room.
We were once again stunned into reverent awe by the sublime combination of ingredients that elevated dishes such as the Dragon Fruit Tuna Ceviche with Hibiscus "air" (an ethereally light scented foam) and the so succulent Secreto Ibérico to ecclesiastic heights. Or the ridiculously simple but entirely symbiotic Kyushu Oysters with a dollop of Osietra caviar, finished to visually stunning perfection with a wisp of gold foil. (I actually broke my own rule and took a picture of it!}
We couldn't help but overeat and taps after tapas, we cooed like doves and purred like kittens.
The grand finale was a dramatic presentation of a Caipirinha Sorbetto created tableside in a large silver bowl with liquid nitrogen that elicited oos and ahs from our neighbours. It was so refreshing and palette cleansing that we did it again!
Also most noteworthy is the offering of top shelf wines by the glass thanks to an argon-replacement injector called a Coravin. Outstanding and memorable in every way, we are already planning our return.
