The Bauer Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Our food selections were excellent!....my granddaughter enjoyed the burger and I the Cod fish special.......they had a very generous order of fries with each entre! Although we were tucked into a corner in hopes of a quieter spot, it was very noisy in the restaurant.....
Had taken my date there and the pair at the front desk were very accommodating and sat us to our table. Undecided about the wine choice, server requested a sample of the chardonnay. ended up ordering a glass and a glass of Pinot Grigio. waited a little longer than usual for the wine. ordered an app (calamari) and our mains. Ordered the Seared Atlantic Salmon and the Cabernet Short Rib Gnocchi. App came out again a little longer than it should for an app. Taste was just ok. Batter was light and crispy, but lacked flavor. The breaded hot peppers added a spice if you were lucky to get one, my date did and she was not a fan of heat, so that was a surprise to her. The Dill Remoulade was a nice dip. Mains came shortly after. The salmon was on the smaller portion size and the beet juice was very bland. No taste or spice, nothing. Just watered down beet juice. Not satisfying at all. All the veggies and potatoes were in the beet juice thus making the meal very boring. The Gnocchi, my date said was flavourful but again, not like The Bauer Kitchen should be. We felt the menu for dinner was a little on the light side for ordering other than steak and the prices were a bit high for what you got on your plate. So again, for my first time there, I was not satisfied and wouldn't be bothered if I didn't go back. Nice atmosphere and very open, but for a date night, not too concerned about what else is there, but what's on the table and in front of me. The server was very attentive and knew her wines, at least from the whites.
We have been here before for special occasions and came back for our daughters birthdays because we really enjoyed previous experiences. Reservation for 6 adults with apps, drinks and main course - things didn’t start off well when we had to return a glass of wine because it was musty. The waiter was less than impressed. Main dishes were ok with the exception of the short rib - it was very good but other dishes were cold and less than average. I was embarrassed because my husband and I treated. The waiter never came back until everything was cleared. He asked if we were celebrating something special and we told him about the 2 birthdays. 2 tables around us had birthday cakes and candles - we got nothing. We were rushed out with the bill. When we asked for a piece of cake and candle it was provided- but we felt quite uncomfortable.
Very disappointing- the experience prior was by far better. Would not go back if this is the new norm.
We arrived at the Bauer Kitchen for a brunch reservation at 12:30. It was quite busy and we had to wait a couple of minutes for our table to be cleared. The service was prompt and the server was quite pleasant. We ordered our coffees and waters and those came promptly. At this time we ordered our meals. Two of us had Eggs Benedict and the other had a variety of sides for brunch. Although it took quite a while for our food to come, the flavour was excellent. There was plenty as the Eggs Benedict came with hash browns and a small bowl of fruit cocktail, and consequently we were full when we left. Oh yes, the Eggs Benedict came on a freshly baked biscuit as well. That too was excellent. We plan to head there whenever we are in K-W again. Highly recommended by all three of us.
Been at the Bauer Kitchen several times but this time was the first time for a Sunday lunch. I was expecting the regular menu and not just breakfast items. I should have checked the Sunday menu before. It was also very busy and noisy. I should keep my routine of going only during the week.
This restaurant is a bit tricky to find for someone not from Waterloo - the address is King St. but the sign faces a side street. The parking lot/underground was absolute chaos on a Saturday lunch, but we found free, easy street parking. Then the entrance to get into the actual restaurant is also not well marked. BUT all the stress of getting there was worth it as the food was exceptional. Amazing flavour combos cooked to perfection. Great service, very reasonable price point for the quality of the meal. A noisy, busy dining room, so not for the hard of hearing on a busy Saturday brunch hour, but great vibe. I will definitely return.
Our experience at TBK was great but we suspect cross-contamination in an allegedly gluten-free menu item. Guest with celiac disease was quite sick after eating here. For guests without dietary sever restrictions, a great spot to dine but we must advise more care to be taken in the kitchen if they are to offer gluten-free options.
My teenage boys and my partner made a new tradition to have dinner at the Bauer on Christmas Eve every year. We love the ambiance of the restaurant, with warm lights and a combination of modern and traditional décor. The turkey dinner was just divine this year! I couldn't have asked for better. Two of the boys had filet mignon, another the burger, and my husband had pasta. I always enjoy the seasonal mojitos and sangria at Bauer. A night to remember!
The restaurant is lovely and the service was good. It was a Christmas lunch out, therefore wanted the cuisine to be special. All guests order salads with chicken, shrimp, salmon etc. The greens were limp and not very plentiful. The plate looked unattractive. Given the fact that everyone ordered a salad it was very noticeable.
My friend and I had a lovely lunch, eggs benedict (sp.?). Our waitress was delightful, I
can’t remember her name, she had long hair tied back. We were celebrating my friend’s
birthday and she was surprised with some delicious chocolate cake. The whole experience
was totally pleasant.
We met friends for Sat. Dinner. The restaurant was packed (a good sign I think). We were greeted immediately by the friendly staff and offered coat check service. Our waitress was terrific. She was friendly and attentive (but not intrusive) and knowledgeable. Our drinks and food arrived in a timely manner and was delicious. Best decaf latte, I’ve had in a long time!! We have been here several times and will be back. Our waitress suggested trying brunch, so I think we will!
Everything was quiet good except for the charcuterie board. I was very disappointed in the lack of variety of foods presented. I would definitely not order it again nor would I recommend that menu item. The burgers were delicious and I would come back for another.
Thanks so much Cathy Hoare
