-The Baskerville has been voted Best Tourism Pub for the South East of England 2020-
The Baskerville is a traditional country-inn with en-suite rooms in the pretty village of Shiplake, Oxfordshire, situated a short walk from the River Thames. The Telegraph described it as “cockle-warming, unpretentious and home to a multi-award-winning restaurant”. Enjoy a ‘proper’ bar serving local beers, a restaurant, a beautiful garden and roaring log fires in winter.
Using wholesome, fresh and exceptional quality produce, Jamie and his team creates a selection of modern, casual dishes with a global influence, suited for sharing or eating in courses. Our menu of course caters for kids, vegetarians, vegans and the gluten intolerant. Other requirements can be arranged too.
During the restrictions of COVID 19, our menu is smaller than usual but still offers fantastic choice
Dogs are welcome in the bar, garden and rooms.

Absolutely superb. The food was excellent and the service was so friendly. So good it was a shame to leave!
Lovely meal to celebrate Dad’s birthday. Absolutely excellent service and lovely food.
First trip to The Baskerville! The Sunday roasts were outstanding, I had the brisket and my wife had the lamb - both were fantastic and I will definitely be back again. Our desserts were also fantastic! Apart from the great food - this was a dog friendly pub - which was another big plus for us!
We haven't been to Baskervilles for a while for obvious reasons, it was so nice to be back, the food was amazing, a great atmosphere, Kay and the team looked after us very well, can't wait to come back
Had lunch here. The menu was interesting and all dishes were appealing. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Would recommend.
We will be back; lovely staff, lovely venue and great food. Would have hot 5 stars but issue on main course arriving albeit was dealt with once bill arrived
An extremely nice lunch for my partner for her birthday. The food and ambience were superb as usual
From the moment we were welcomed on arrival to the end of our visit, I was so impressed. As a vegetarian pub food is often heavy and unimaginative but the small plates offered were delicious especially the burnt aubergine on labneh with toasted walnuts & pomegranate seeds- Delish! The waiter was so friendly and informed about all the different foods and the wine too. The Bedouin tent looked awesome so definitely will do that another day. Just a lovely place, lovely ambience and lovely food!
I was dining alone and it was busy yet, I received attentive and friendly service. I felt I was a valued customer.
Lovely setting, fantastic food and great service
We finally met up after 18 months on zoom - and The Baskerville was a great choice.
Fantastic lunch out! The pub was clean and well socially distanced, lovely/friendly staff and the food tasted absolutely delicious! Thank you for catering to my dietary requirements - my second visit and won’t be my last!
We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at Baskerville. Service was excellent and food was delicious. Their cauliflower cheese was so yummy wish there was second helping! 😋
Lovely food, great hosts and service throught our meal. Friendly and professional The Baskerville is a favourite of ours. Always nice to be greeted by the owners.
Fresh flavours, interesting menu, good value wines.
We shall be back!
Fantastic food and great service. Super friendly team. Strongly recommend.
Welcome was lovely. Food and service were both good. Bit noisy as we were close to kitchen and coffee machine!
Great atmosphere, service and food - highly recommend
Great venue. Very friendly. Good menu.
We were staying here, so ate here too - good food and nice choice, staff friendly and attentive
Lovely country pub and paid the small supplement to sit in the Bedouin tent which has a great ambience.
Food, staff and service were all amazing and definitely will be visiting again
Really great food and service smouldering recommend to all.
Food was poor and overpriced, very greasy and they didnt have the home made crisps even though the place was empty?!
Sat us next to the toilets ebven though it was 5pm and the place was empty and staff took ages to see to us.
I know it is just a pub but I did expect better
Dear Andrew I'm so sorry you had a very below standard experience, and I apologise we did not get it right on this occasion. We have tried very hard since re- opening to build a strong and knowledgable team alongside a menu that compliments the demographic of the broad range of our customer base. Once again my apologise, and we would love to welcome you back to experience what the majority of our customers experience. Pls feel free to contact me direct to arrange a visit. Simon 07775 645287
Requested very well done, even used cremated, arrived semi pink. Not the end of the world, but didn’t enjoy it.
The perfect evening. Delicious food in a relaxing environment, excellent management and all in a beautiful setting. Thank you Team Baskerville!
Unfortunately quality of the roast let the pub down.
Our first visit to this pub restaurant The 3 course Sunday lunch was exceptionally good. The choice of dishes was reasonably wide without being overwhelming.
Sunny warm days in the garden at The Baskerville is always a great location for a just a drink or food. On this visit 4 of us had Sunday lunch in the garden and as with our past experiences the service and food was excellent. Great staff.
Amazing menu, so many lovely choices. Brilliant service
A very relaxed atmosphere for a summer evening. Food was excellent. We will definitely book again!
My wife and I had lunch here. It was extremely busy and the staff were run ragged but remained calm and cheerful. The food was the usual excellent standard. My wife had the monkfish and I had the flank steak. We had a nice plate of mixed vegetables - cauliflower, carrots and green beans in a delicious buttery sauce. I had the chocolate fondant dessert, cake outside and lovely warm gooey chocolate inside - heaven - served with vanilla dairy ice cream. There is an extensive drinks list, but as it was a hot day I just had 2 pints of Amstel lager, and a Drambuie with coffee. The Baskerville is a quality dining experience but you must book in advance as it is always so full due to its popularity.
Very warm welcome from the host, we were made to feel at home. Great food and drinks, served in timely fashion. We will be back again soon
very good food as usual, looking forward to the beef back on the menu for sunday lunch. s
Lovely day! Thank you!
The seared tuna with pear and avo was superb. The service was friendly and warm. The weather helped.
I'd say the interior is a little dated now, time to update it :-)
Nowhere better on a sunny day
Amazing food with very delightful garden and restaurant. Service was attentive but not invasive of our gathering. Only looses one point due to not being able to it in the garden- despite no one arriving to occupy the tables during our visit. Would have been nice to have been offered a limited period of time in the garden. The waiter who greeted us at the gate had already said no before checking. However the table we had inside was cool and by a window overlooking the garden, food was sublime and we had a very enjoyable lunch
As usual staff and service just spot on and very relaxed vibe. Love the place!
Very helpful professional staff, good food, lovely location.
Lovely day outside in the sun. Very well kept garden and decent tables to sit on. Food good and staff friendly.
Great place for Sunday lunch. Food was very tasty and clearly home cooked - we all commented on the great choice of vegetables and when we asked for extra gravy and apple sauce the staff were all incredibly helpful and forthcoming.
