"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing.Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."
Our party was seated immediately. Large menu to choose from. We arrived before 6:00 pm and ordered from the early bird menu. From soup to desert everything was great. One thing that I love is that the food is sizzling and piping hot always. Very satisfied all around.
Seafood is consistently fresh and prepared perfectly.
Food was great, specially the salmon. The lady at front desk was not really friendly.
I think I will come back and try some other dishes.
For us this was a trip and half down memory lane. I was born in Perth Amboy. My family's businesses were there. My grandparents (both sides) lived there and raised their children there. The Barge was where we often went for Sunday dinner. I still have memories of steaks and seafood on sizzling plates served by wait staff who pieroeted between men and women dressed ala "Mad Men" constantly standing and greeting old classmates and friends. It was a scene.
I'm glad to say that while the crowd has changed the ambience and the food has not. The scallops still arrives tender and sizzling and the stuffed flounder is flaky and moist not dry and over cooked even on a crowded Saturday night.
I enjoy trying new things. I love being adventurous with food, but there are times when I long for the known. For good food delivered with competence and heart. So" viva la Barge.
this casual neighborhood restaurant was the perfect spot to meet up with friends.
Service was excellent, delicious lobster and king crab legs.
Old fashion restaurant but you can get decent seafood that is not too pricy.
Food was fair. Had the broiled lobster platter, crab app and a cup of the chowder. Not awful but eh. Lots of butter. Baked potato served in tin foil. Butter packets. Was expecting something a little nicer and a little more upscale.
Had dinner on Valentine's Day. This app. Was on point. Seated immediately. The specials were good but could order off the menu. Food was good, not great. Excellent customer service. Nevertheless a good deal on a busy day.
THE WOMAN WHO GREETS YOU AT THE DOOR IS BRUTAL. SHE ALWAYS HAS SOMETHING TO SAY. BEEN GOING THERE FOR YEARS AND SHE HAS NEVER BEEN HAPPY OR PLEASANT.
Superb value---excellent food (Manhattan clam chowder; any of the fish specials; etc.);
great service (special kudos for Mary, the hostess).
Good food, good service
Always a pleasant dinner. I love going there. I have been since a child with my parents. Kyle was a true professional and the dinner was perfect. I had the scallops my friend has the steak And Sister and brother in-law had the lobster and broiled seafood combo. So happy it’s not far and In central NJ
My wife specifically asked waiter about clams casino to make sure clam was chopped into the ingredients. He assured her it was but it came out with whole clam at the bottom. She was not happy and did not eat it.
Decent place, would go for a quick lunch not dinner.
I didn’t get a warm welcoming from the hostess or even a smile. the first waiter” didn’t speak any English when I asked for bottles water he didn’t understand.
The actual waiter was really good and quick with any and all requests.
Food was decent. Fried shrimp and scallops dish we got 3 shrimps and 7 scallops for 20 bucks, So thought that would be an even split deff wanted more shrimp. Tarter sauce was good. Scallops were full sized and cooked just right as well as the shrimp.(fried)
The entrees could use a little more flavor but good sized dishes.
I’d give it another shot and hopefully the chef gets a new cook book. The restaurant location near the water is nice and seems like they have a lot of regulars being that the loud couple behind us was way beyond the normal talking decibel level..almost uncomfortable.
the party upstairs was kind of noisy but hey it’s a Saturday. I expected the place to be busier being that they have 4 stars, there were only a few tables of people and no music or entertainment.
Not a singles place, more for an older couple after a game of golf or retired people that don’t wanna drive to red lobster.
Excellent, as always. It is our go-to Restaurant and are never disappointed.
I have always loved this restaurant. Everyone always so nice They know how to make your evening special. And I have never been disappointed. I love going all seasons It’s a very special place to me and my family.
Seemed over booked. Tables close together and uncomfortable. Service slow due to to many people ratio to staff. Food horrible. Shrimp cocktail soggy and like rubber. Spaghetti over cooked. Scallops raw in middle.
Used to be a real. Nice place. Totally gone down hill and not worth what they charge. Will not go back.
Not for holiday dinner, server was slow had 4 tables couldn’t keep up food served cold came 15 minutes later with grated cheese and sour cream. Had to look for him for drinks and never checked with us on how food was. Very disappointed
Great food as always
Service is excellent
Prices are very reasonable
Cant wait to go back again
Kenny our waiter is the best. The scallops were delicious!
The Barge is always great. It's where people who love sea-food go. Alex is a wonderful and always donates to different city events. I've never had a bad meal. This time I didn't have fish. I tried the london broil and it was done to perfection and the mushroom gravy was very tasty. My husband had the scrod which he always has and tonight we had it again.
Always enjoyable
The food was excellent from app through entrees. We could not do dessert the rest of the food was so filling. We got to take home 1/2 lobster dish and 1/4 of broiled combo so could enjoy again the next day. Had the oyster rockefeller and Clams Oreganato both were hot to the table and delicious. Would gladly return and recommend to my family and friends
The food was great. Also the service was friendly. The prices were reasonable
Really, super nice.... we came from Scotch Plains, easy, great food, great service. Not pretentious like Westfield... terrific views. Just all around a great experience.
Most of the fish came out undercooked and had to be sent back and one of the steaks had to be sent back. No manager came to apologize if offer anything to make up for the issues. I will not be coming back.
Great food and reasonable price
The food was excellent and staff very friendly. I just thought it was funny to have valet parking and they parked the car 2 cars from tut he restaurant...Overall experience was positive
Great place for a reasonable priced meal near the water. Dinner like menu with lots of broiled fish options. Lunch or early bird special is a great deal. Older clientele so great place to take older family members.
My husband and I went here for a quiet dinner and the seafood was excellent and well prepared. Would recommend for a nice casual meal.
The Barge is always good. We even qualified for the early bird special which included soup and coffee or tea. I had mahi mahi which I hadn't had in a long time. It was very good. I love Alex and The Barge. Alex is always good to the community besides being a great restaurateur.
The food is fresh and consistently good. A nice place to go with family & friends
As usual, the food was good and the service was excellent. We go there often and always come away pleased with the food and service. It’s also reasonable and the seafood is always fresh.
The food was excellent. We shared 2 apps the Olive/Feta and Shrimp Cocktail which both were large and very good. I had the Lobster Newberg and my girlfriend had steak and shrimp special. I finished mine completely, she had such a large entree was able to take 1/2 a T-Bone home. Our waiter Carl was also excellent we wanted to have a slow relaxing early dinner and he was good about checking back to see when we wanted to order. Overall it was an excellent way to spend a sunday late afternoon. One caveat the air conditioning would go on occasionly and it was cold for a few minutes. My gf had a jacket for an after dinner walk on the waterfont so it worked out for us, but if she had not had it inside the restaurant it would not have been as nice.
Delicious seafood cooked to perfection.
The best sangria anywhere.
Excellent service is the norm.
Food and service were excellent. I was not sure that the young man who brought us to the table was going to record my reservation from Open Table. I had requested a window table, but did not get it.
He would have had to seat us in the back section. The only window table in the front would have been behind a
Although the food is always good, this is the only Open Table restaurant where you must call the restaurant to confirm your reservation . They do not check the computer for Open Table and enter it in their book like other restaurants. This is not the first time we've arrived and they were unaware of our reservation because they don't check their computer. we were lucky there was a table open. The woman in charge seems annoyed to have to do so. So unfortunate, since this is the first impression one gets.
Great value and Consistently good is the best way to describe The Barge.
When we got there for our reservation we were told there were no tables. Then the hostess said even if I had a table, you will have to wait for service. We ended up with a table in the bar with an extremely unhappy waitress.
Food was basically thrown at us. Food was disappointing, very little taste. Don’t think we will ever return.
