Another great experience at the Owl Bar. SO SORRY it will be temporarily closing due to COVID---hope it reopens very soon!!
As always, service by, and conversation with, Will was excellent. Such a nice guy, and so good at what he does. He allowed me to sample a new cocktail he invented, and we had a lot of fun talking about possible signature names for it.
I really look forward to visiting the next time in Baltimore.
I sat at the bar and was fortunate enough to have Will as my bartender/server. He was wonderful...pleasant, interesting conversationalist, got everything right. I was so happy to be back after so many months. I live in Philly and whenever I visit Baltimore, I will come back!
The charming Owl Bar has reopened with very few customers so far. Service was attentive, food was delicious just like before the pandemic closure (although the menu has been reduced somewhat). It still looks cool, but it's unusual to see it so quiet. No real risk of contact with other tables. I hope locals will get out and support the Owl Bar!
Once a month my friends and I meet for lunch or brunch. The Owl Bar has a great atmosphere! The bartenders and servers were extremely patient (I spilled my glass of water at the bar). Not just patient but friendly and excited to share their favorites on the menu. We ordered: The Belvedere Burger, medium done, Maple Honey BBQ Wings, Thai Chili Wings, Duck Fat Fries and the BBQ Salmon Cobb. Unfortunately the burger came out well done and it was hard to taste the flavor because of the char. Both flavors of wings were tasty and you cannot, cannot go wrong with the fries. The dressing for the Salmon Cobb is great the amount of BBQ sauce on the salmon was a bit generous but still good. It’s a neighborhood gem great for lunch or happy hour! Great atmosphere with high energy. Delicious food and drink menus. Down side is the noise factor- super loud.
great place. We had a big group come in late and the service was great and everything was delicious
Joe was awesome !
You can opt to sit in a quiet section, and it was very nice. Cool place!
Absolutely awful food. Sausage gravy was broken and cold. Densest waffle ever with the smallest chicken breast I’ve ever seen on chicken and waffles. The hummus plate was clearly refrigerated overnight. I’m not sure how a brick oven pizza can be such a greasy mess. Awful service to boot.
Very cool ambiance for date night. Cream of crab soup was delicious! Our service was conscientious without being pushy. We really enjoyed our evening there.
The main room was so loud we couldn't hear each other across the table. And he got a headache from it.
Amazing food and service, great ambience. Will definitely come back here!
The food was great - we enjoyed the poutine immensely; however the service was extremely disappointing. I even ended up contacting the Owl Bar about the poor service and have yet to hear back from them. Despite not being too busy for Valentine’s Day, the waiter spent most of his time socializing with friends seated at another table instead of refilling our drinks, or asking if we wanted another round of cocktails (which we did, but ended up not getting them). We were going to stay for dessert but ended up changing our minds due to the poor service. I’m honestly debating not returning to the Owl Bar, despite going there previously for special occasion dinners and casual dinners and drinks.
Valentines Menu sounded great, but the food wasn’t good. We should have ordered the pizzas. Great ambiance though.
One of the best restaurants and bars in Baltimore! The drinks are incredible and the food is always wonderful. Highly recommend the duck fat fries or one of their brick oven pizzas, such as the crab dip one. I love their Say it Ain’t So cocktail but they also make a great old fashioned. This place is one of my favorites!
John is a great bartender. The Maryland Crab soup was delicious. Good mix of spice, vegetables, and crab meat.
Really neat atmosphere, very underground Baltimore.
Usually a favorite place, the food was really off tonite, with everything being overcooked (and did not follow instructions for burger). The waitstaff was great but became overwhelmed with too many tables as the evening went on.
Probably will give it a rest for a while before returning, but will go back at some point.
The menu looks very inviting online but in person it was very different. The restaurant week promotion was not appealing to all of our party so we opted to order from the full brunch menu, big mistake. We received promotion sized meal portions at full menu prices, for example my $15 chicken and waffles dish consisted of half a thin jalapeno waffle and a single, very dry, fried chicken tender. Also the brunch burger cooked medium came out like a hockey puck. I hate to complain to wait staff as they did not personally prepare the food so we opted to leave with complaining to management. Lesson learned, $98 brunch for 3 ladies at the Owl Bar, too loud to hear each other, not worth the trip to Mt. Vernon.
Restaurant Week - The menu was different from the one on the Restaurant Week menu This is the reason I wanted to come When I asked about it I was told it was the menu from the prior year So why was it on the website? That menu had many options and the one at the restaurant had very few It was more like 3-4 choices The waiter did not have a problem informing me that the dishes left off were available on the regular brunch menu and of course at a higher price. This was false advertising and just an inducement to get one to the restaurant I refused to be duped so my friend and I left and went to Johnny’s which was a much better atmosphere, good food and excellent service I will not go back to The Owl Bar and will definitely tell my friends not to patronize them either Its dishonest to lure guests this way
Brunch here was a mess. No one seemed to know what was going on and they were understaffed. I booked a reservation for 6 people for 11:45 on a Saturday morning. There was no hostess at the stand so we wandered into the bar area and tried to get a bartender's attention. Eventually the GM pointed us to an empty table and dropped off menus. We sat for 20 minutes before anyone came to take our drink orders. When we finally put in our food orders, it took a full hour for the appetizers to come out and another 30 minutes for our entrees. The food was just ok and really not worth the wait. Our waitress showed up at around 12:20 and did such a great job of refilling our bottomless mimosas that we were all pretty buzzed by the time our food showed up and so full of orange juice that it didn't bother us that the portions were a little small. We probably won't be coming back.
Restaurant was very busy but severely understaffed. We were seated for 30 minutes before anyone came to take our order then we were asked to move tables to accommodate a larger party. After an hour and change our food arrived (appetizer and entrees all at once) and the food was cold/not tasty. I’ve been to Owl Bar many times for brunch and have always had great food and service so was very disappointed in our experience. Thankfully, the manager comped our bill but I do not know if I’ll return for food service again.
*We did order off of the restaurant week menu*
Food was excellent. Service was hit or miss. Very loud.
One of the best bars in Baltimore! Server asked if we were seeing a show after (we were) and was very attentive to the schedule.
My family and I had a very enjoyable lunch at the Owl Bar. The food was tasty, the service was friendly and attentive, and the ambience was fun.
Food was great except my pizza took over and hour to be prepared. Our waiter was great and kept me updated on the progress and even paid for it because of all the mishaps.
Great restaurant. Food and service always great.
I’ve been going to owl bar for 10+ years. It’s always been great. We’ve hosted our holiday party there the last few years and this year was no exception. However, next year we’ll be hosting the holiday party elsewhere. I don’t mind the so-so food (it’s a bar after all) and that they raised their prices a few years ago that are now far behind the value represented in the dishes theme selves. But the service has been terrible and that’s the deal breaker for me. We scheduled our holiday party, made reservations and our server was borderline awol. Totally neglectful, forget simple requests (he never wrote anything down), would walk away while one of our party was in the middle of speaking to him, I mean this guy was impossible to get ahold of and have pay attention to us. It was an awful experience that we will not repeat for our company party next year and I personally am unlikely to return to what was a beloved bar. Very disappointed.
Once again dinner was great. Service was just what you hope for. The only challenge this evening, it was louder than usual - making conversation difficult. Even so, I look forward to our next dinner at the owl bar.
TOO LOUD unable to converse at tables tight outside bar doors. Drinks were good
It was not what I expected in such a nice hotel location Expected more high end food
It’s a bar restaurant with bar food
Quality was so so
Food was awful with the exception of the beignets. Clearly specified in reservation and over the phone that we were there for two special occasions and there was no mention of it - rather embarrassing. Provided feedback to the host and his response was “ok” - no apology nor an ounce of concern. Total disaster and definitely the worst experience on every level! Steer clear of this place.
It was a very good, leisurely, brunch.
Unfortunately, I don't think I recommend this place. I might go there in a pinch since it was easy to get a reservation, but overall I wasn't impressed. It was dead for brunch - no one there by 11:30 which I thought was odd. But the killer really was that I had bad lox and when I told the waiter, his only reaction was to say thanks for telling them. I do expect someone to check in with me to ensure I am ok when I tell them I've consumed bad fish. I think it's the least one can do.
Service was very slow, would not recommend going if you can’t get a bar seat
I love the ambiance it's very "hip" feeling. The food was not as good as it has been in the past. My husband hated his Cuban. he said the barbeque sauce on the pork wasn't typical in a Cuban and the sweetness was off putting. We had plans to see a show so he didn't have time to order anything else. I would like to come back and try again since this is the first time we didn't enjoy our meal
Came to the Owl bar with a lot of friends to have a conversation. Our experience was fantastic. The food is delicious as always. The service was friendly and perfectly attentive - even though it was clearly a busy night. Looking forward to our next meeting soon.
I know that Saturday night can be busy — and it was — but after 15 minutes we had to flag down the host to send a server to our table. We then had to go to the bar to request water an to get our check. The food was OK for pub food, but blah overall. The noise level was very distracting. It was a big disappointment. We won’t go back.
The food and service were good but the atmosphere was even better. Good place to eat before going to the speaker series. We will return.
I had reservations was seated promptly directly by the door. Also waiter took nearly 30 min to come bring a glass of water to even acknowledge that we was waiting the whole experience was bad wait time on everything was poor and very long with know explanation of why.
