The Back Room Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
We have had some nice meals here in the past. This dinner was disappointing. It took a very long time to get our food and when it came my steak was done well past medium rare and my dad's steak was done short of medium. We were offered a new steak but after the initial long wait, we really did not want to wait any longer. Service was pleasant but disinterested. Not what I would expect from a restaurant of this price point.
First I’d like to say the photo of the dining room on the web site doesn’t do the room justice. It’s a pleasant room. This was our first visit and I was very excited.
Our reservation was at 6:30PM on a Sunday and I was surprised to see the restaurant already had several tables filled with patrons. The waitress immediately greeted us and asked for our drink order. Upon her return she advised the Specials of the day (Surprisingly at 6:30PM only one Veal Chop remained). My husband ordered the Veal Chop and I the Prime rib- Queen cut - Rare (Only served on Sunday’s). We also ordered appetizers Short Rib Egg Rolls (Greasy) and Oysters Rockefeller (a special of the day – very good). We both had the Caesar Salad. The salads were swimming in dressing.
After a bit of a wait the dinners were served. My husband’s Veal Chop looked and tasted excellent. My Prime rib was raw (not rare – raw! ). The outer rim of the meat didn’t even have a different color . Prime rib should be slow roosted for at least four (4) hours to achieve a desired result. I asked that the Prim rib be cooked a bit more maybe even “charred” as suggested on the menu. The waitress apologized and took the steak. When she returned the Prime rib was brown. They had boiled it in Au Jus! The Prime rib was now well done. I did take a bite hoping the inner would at least be pink. Nope it was well done and now VERY salty. My husband had finished his meal. In all fairness they did ask if it was okay (I know they knew it wasn’t )I told them everything was fine, and asked server to box the steak and potato to-go. That should have been a big clue. What should have been a nice dinner out became a real let down. A real disappointment
Will I go back? NO, the Prime Rib was not a Prime cut of meat.
Outstanding in every way. Steakhouse ambiance and delectable steaks/prime rib. Waiter was knowledgeable and fun. Wish the tables in the booths were a bit wider. We four gals had to lean forward or "scoot in" to eat our meal. Maybe optional back pillows for the women!
This used to be my “go to” favorite restaurant. Not sure what has happened with the quality of food. My last two visits to Back Room the food quality was poor. Cream of Spinach is Now spinach floating in warm milk. The filet used to be perfect as you could cut it with a fork. Not so anymore; over done and chewy. The risotto, absolutely no flavor. When served my entre, the food was barely warm. We asked the server if the recipe had changed. Her response was, “I think so.” At this point I wanted to ask for the manager, but did not due to the special occasion. I did share my dissatisfaction with the server. She did nothing. I felt ignored. Definitely not worth $40 ++ for filet. We took our very best friends to celebrate birthdays. Set reservations up and added notes. Embarrassed as table not set for 4 but 2 and I had to tell our server why we were there. Nothing like feeling unvalued. Not sure if I will return. Very disappointing.
We arrived at the restaurant quite a bit before our 5:30 PM reservations; but, despite being early, we were seated immediately.
We tossed around some ideas for cocktails and wine, which delayed our ordering. But Brittany was incredibly patient and attentive and gave us time to formulate a plan. We settled on a Back Room Old Fashioned (with Luxardo cherries!) and a Fig & Berry Mule (a staff recommendation.) Our drinks tasted great!
For an appetizer, we went with the crab cakes. They were huge, tasty, crispy, and the remoulade sauce was delicious. They are very close to what I am used to getting in Maryland - yes, that good!
For our main course, we both opted for the Boneless Ribeye, medium rare. The steaks were cooked and seasoned perfectly, not a single complaint from either of us. We got two sides with each steak! My wife had the Asparagus and Risotto; and, I had the Creamed Spinach and Broccolini. The sides were done perfectly, just straight-up terrific food.
To go with our steaks, we had two glasses of wine. I ordered her the Burnside Meritage; and, I went with the Boneshaker Zinfandel from Lodi, CA. Her wine offered up some nice fruit up front, while mine was big, bold, spicey, and terrific with the well-marbled meat.
We split the Creme Brulee, which was the BEST presentation of the dish that we have had in more than 20 years. The caramelized sugar was crispy, and the custard was warmed through. It was an absolute delight to finish our meal with this dish.
The food was wonderfully cooked and had a nice presentation. Everything tasted uniquely special from start to finish. This is fine dining. It is a bonus that The Back Room is a local neighborhood restaurant. From the moment you enter the door you are treated as a special guest by the hostess, multiple servers, and are visited by the owner. This restaurant is excellent in every way.
Was excited. Our first time there. Everything was great until it took 1.5 hours to get our steaks. The place had almost emptied out. Waitress kept saying it was the next out....wrong. When we finally got it all we got was “sorry for the delay” from the owner. Really? Even one of the other wait staff (not ours) came over and chuckled saying “you finally got your food?” Steaks were warm but not hot. What started out great ended with a dud.
It started with excellent customer service... we were greeted with a friendly welcome. We had reservations and were seated right on time. The waitress was awesome! Friendly, funny, and well versed on the menu items. I had steak and my husband had lamb chops. Both were cooked to perfection. The sides were delicious, too. I would recommend the Backroom to everyone. Casual attire, but dressy is ok, too. A gem we were happy to find. We’ll go back soon.
I had read reviews that it was the best Steak House in Central Florida and the reviews were right. The appetizers all the way to dessert, everything was wonderful.
The seating and décor was awesome and the staff was extremely helpful and very friendly.
Cant wait to go back!!!
One of my finest dining experiences ever. The service, atmosphere, Furnishings, steaks and food was fantastic. Lighting was a little bright though. I feel strongly that it should be turned down a couple notches. I cannot wait to return again and bring more family and friends.
This was probably my sixth time at the Back Room Steak House and it was just as enjoyable as the other five visits. It's pricey, but well worth the $$ in terms of being able to chat with your date and enjoy excellent food, good wine and friendly, professional service.
The food was excellent! We both had the Ribeye steak and it was very flavorful. Service started slow, but after that was very good. After checking out the rather pricey menu online ($36.00 Ribeye), we were expecting a somewhat hi-end dining experience for our anniversary. The ambiance was lacking for this occasion. It felt more like we were eating in a Chilis' restaurant.
The waitress was extremely loud. Felt like she was yelling at us while we were ordering. My father comment well now everyone in the restaurant knows what we ordered. The food looked and tasted awesome. The manager was nice and gave my parents a complimentary dessert since it was their 50 th wedding anniversary. Would recommend this place to friends for a special occassion. Just be prepared for a loud waitress.
This was my second visit first was much better
We went there as a family of 4 ordered 2 ribeye's medium rare came out medium and were a bit tough
my daughters filet was the highlight very good NY strip was just ok waited 55 minutes for the meals to come out or would have asked for 2 new ribeyes. Staff was friendly Ribeye quality was inconsistent with the ones that were great on our first visit
Upscale food in a non-pretentious atmosphere. The veal chop was marvelous as well as the pork chop. Next time, we must try one of their steaks. Garlic mashed was delicious and we were split on the non-traditional creamed spinach (it was wilted spinach in a thin cream sauce rather than thicker spinach with cheese in it). The desserts were wonderful - creme brulee and chocolate bourbon pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. The one light hanging over our booth was a little bright. The service was great and our server was very personable. Prices were reasonable for the quality of food. We will be going back!
The restaurant was very plain. There was no nice artwork no plants the bathroom was stark. There was no atmosphere. No visual impact. The manager was dressed in all black and he looked sad to be there. Our table was waited on by really nice people the servers were fantastic informative friendly and we got our food in a timely manner. The servers weren't dressed like an upper class restaurant that I was told this place was. My recommendation is there attire needs to be classier . Food was ok but not wonderful and nothing that would make me want to hurry back to it. I spent $400 plus at that restaurant next time I will drive further to get my moneys worth . I do believe though with a little bit of effort they could give that place A personality. If I hear it's been styled I will go back. Even though the food was mediocre atmosphere and visual impact are very important and I'd go back if it were redecorated.
