My husband and I were visiting from Seattle. We have a lovely meal earlier in the week in the same area. We came with high expectations and were very disappointed. Our waitress seemed bored? Tired? Disinterested? She barely spoke a word all evening, never asked if we liked anything, never made any suggestions or explained any of the dishes. I’m not sure she even served any of the dishes. The food was ok. My trout was bland, the skin was barely crisped and black beans were overpowering. The chocolate cake was under whelming. I would not bother going again.

We met some good friends from Duluth who were staying at the Hewitt Hotel for dinner. Despite reserving 15 days in advance we could not get in until 8:45 PM - this speaks to the popularity of the the restaurant. Items ordered included: APPETIZER: Shaved sweetheart cabbage, pain de mie croutons, toasted almonds, chopped egg, Parmesan vinaigrette; TOAST: Shaved pastrami, kohlrabi, toasted hazelnuts, Juliette apples, dried cherries, apple mustard; MAINS 1) Roasted walleye, braised black turtle beans, sautéed greens, bcona, parsnips, lemon aioli; 2) Duck breast, broccoli, cauliflower, butternut squash, toasted almonds, sage; 3) Roasted and braised pork, mashed root vegetables, marinated kale, fermented cabbage, chives; 4) Grilled Devon beef, Hakurei turnips, roasted beets, red onion, old water, gremolata; SIDES: 1) Roasted Brussels sprouts, Camembert Mornay, parsnip chips; 2) Pork fat-fried sweet potatoes, maple butter; 3) Warm popover, honey butter. This splendid meal was enhanced with two bottles of NEBBIOLO Ca’ del Baio Asili Barbaresco, Piemonte, Italy 2014. The ninety minutes of outstanding food, fine service, and amazing conversation made for a remarkable evening. We will be returning - highly recommended!

Date-night excursion with my girlfriend. Appetizer of rainbow trout was melt-in-the-mouth. My meal was good, her meal was extremely good. Dessert was a good, but routine chocolate cake.

It’s impossible to deny there’s talent in the kitchen. My issue with The Bachelor Farmer is their competition. There are simply too many restaurants (North Loop and elsewhere) offering food as good or better at a lower price point, with great ambience (of all sorts). The exclusivity only gets you so far. I’m glad we tried it, but I doubt we’ll be back: other options are more compelling for the money.

A business associate and I dined at The Bachelor Farmer on 2/15/18 at the suggestion of a friend. We were extremely pleased with & impressed by our experience. The drinks, wine list, and most of all the food was terrific! Great personal, friendly service and welcoming, comfortable environment. Highly recommended!

The food was good. Portions were fairly small. Seating was very tight. The tables on either side of us weren't event a foot away. My girlfriend who's very skinny had to turn sideways to get to her seat. I'm glad we tried it but we don't plan on going back

Excellent food and service as always. The duck breast was extraordinarily and the pork shoulder was amazingly tender; both had wonderful flavor.

This was my third time dining at TBF and by far the worst experience I’ve had. 5 minutes after being sat a woman greeted us by asking if we were ready to order. No introduction or explanation of the menu. Didn’t ever tell us her name. We ordered the sweet potatoes and received the Brussels sprouts. My beef Devon was cold. For $160 you’d expect more. I won’t be back.

Our server Mike, was AMAZING!! He helped us out throughout the menu with our Vegan diet. Everything he suggested and recommended we order and it was all amazing!! The kitchen did a great job making things specifically for us and we couldn’t of been happier.

Had our first and hopefully not last meal at the Bachelor Farmer. Highly recommend a Monday evening meal if you like pork chops. The service was outstanding, the meal was lovely and inventive without being pretentious or skimping on portions. Really appreciate the wine splits options!

Went to Bachelor Farmer for an early Valentine's Day dinner with my wife. It was my first time and I truly enjoyed it! Although it's on the spendy side the food and service was more than worth it. It's a very cool space in an old warehouse building, and I also recommend visiting the Marvel Bar downstairs...the Singapore Sling was delicious!

We have wanted to eat at Bachelor Farmer for a long time. We were delighted with the ambiance, the service and the food. Just one recommendation: food was a little bit too salty, which seems to be the trend. Being older, we are watching our salt-intake.

Foie gras appetizer was excellent. Beef tartare toast was excellent. Grilled devon beef entree was overcooked and rather bland. Roasted meatballs were dry, and braised pork leg pieces were half delicious and half dry that needed water to get down. Salted beets side was excellent.

Skip the toasts. Don’t listen to other reviews. Nothing special. On the other hand the duck was great as was the foie gras salad appetizer. The trout was just ok. Marvel bar below has great drinks. Fun night out.

I have eaten here many times and have been wowed each time. At this dinner we learned they are in transition, looking for a new executive chief. They need one, the meal was very average. I will go back when a new chief takes over.

Enjoyed out dinner. Maybe a little too many greens for my taste - seems like every entrée was accompanied by collard greens of some sort. Just not my thing. Highly recommend the chop night (just hope they make it with tart apples instead of salty greens)

Excellent, as always. Cocktails always inventive and tasty.
The chef change seems not to have affected the great quality they are known for.

We had a delightful evening at the Bachelor Farmer, our first visit, but, we hope, not our last. The service was exceptional; our server was attentive and informative, but unobtrusive. At her recommendation the four of us shared a cheese plate that was the perfect introduction to our meals. We had a variety of dishes, all of which were excellent. Two of us had the pheasant, a dish to be recommended. Unlike many restaurants, the accompanying vegetables were just as much a highlight of the dish as was the pheasant. We were also pleasantly surprised by the moderate noise level which allowed for good conversation (also unlike many restaurants). Highly recommended.

This is the second time I have been here and I have to say that the entrees were just very bad. While we enjoyed the appetizers, there were very few entree choices and those we ordered just didn't make sense. Some ordered beef and they got a large beef sausage and three tiny slices of steak. I had the fish special and had two very tiny pieces of walleye on bed of vegetables. The food didn't taste good and was even plated in an unappealing manner. The restaurant was full and as we looked around no one had food. It took one hour and 45 minutes to get our food. We finally had to ask our very inattentive waitress to please check on it. When we got it, it was also cold.....Just a bad night all around. We did like the beef tartare appetizer, but the charcuterie plate was pate heavy....so also unappetizing, just big square globs of meat. Sorry, wanted to like this and give it a second chance, but won't be back.

So far this is our favorite restaurant in the Twin Cities.

For an appetizer we had the foie gras which was the best tasting thing I've consumed. We followed that with a beef tartare toast which we also loved. For an entree I had the beef & sausage and my wife had the pork, both were incredible.

Total price for two including wine & tip: $200

Have to say for anyone looking to try some win they have a great program! The Gamay 2016 was brought in a carafe and not only was our server Laura able to describe the wine she seemed more than overjoyed telling us about it!

Will definitely be visiting soon!

I noticed on the menu after being seated that in small print on the very bottom of the menu that they ask the guests to refrain from using cell phones. Because of the very close proximity to other guests, I watched as a young couple took selfies, then a picture of the food that was just delivered and then of course a picture of her eating the food. If I wasn't so close to the other guests table I probably wouldn't have noticed the incessant picture taking, selfies, and a play by play of her Facebook friends comments. As a chef, I thought the food was okay but nothing memorable. The best part of our meal were the cocktails, our charcuterie plate and the desserts.

Between snuggling up to rude strangers, the foods lack of luster and our server forgetting drinks, I don't plan on visiting there again.

First time visiting this restaurant; the food was very good, especially enjoyed the scallops entree.
We had the cheese toast as an appetizer which I would recommend; very good though a couple pieces of the toast were way to dark and partially burnt.
We liked the atmosphere and had very good service, would recommend

They made me feel inferior from my opening glass of wine to payment of the bill. Service was poor and for a upscale restaurant I would expect service with excellence. I was in restaurant for two hours and not once did a manager or lead person check on my experience. Not once did the server ask if I enjoyed the food.

I attended with my husband and in-laws for a New Years Eve pre fixe. They accommodated my milk allergies and my husband’s multitude of allergies and intolerances, along with an in-laws texture preferences. They prepared a vegan panna cotta for me, instead of the usual lump of sorbet that restaurants normally give as the dairy-free substitute.

The good things first: the waitstaff was excellent in every way. They were kind, knowledgeable, and efficient for the entire meal. The ambience was also great. The food quality and presentation was good - fresh and cooked with care and passion.

The negatives: I made a reservation for myself and two friends for NYE dinner, on the morning of NYE. None of us had been to BF before so we checked out the website prior to reserving. We didn’t see anything, at the time we checked, about BF only serving their pre-fixed menu at the price of $95 per person. So our excitement about eating at such a buzzed-about restaurant quickly died when we sat down and learned of our only option. Since we already paid for parking and didn’t want to wander around on a frigidly cold NYE looking for takeout, we asked to split 2 five-course meals among the 3 of us, putting us at $190 total without tax, tip, or drinks (we did not order any drinks, but we were given complimentary champagne). The portion sizes were very small. The main course was very underwhelming - a few small slices of rather chewy, poorly seasoned duck. I had to scrub the whole plate clean so I could get as much sauce as possible into each chewy bite. We were really looking forward to trying BF’s popular main menu items and on our own budget. I personally would like to return since the food itself was fresh and flavorful (minus the chewy duck), but I know my friends were so disappointed by the small portion size and ridiculous pricing that they would need serious convincing.
